Myth fans get a double dose of action in Ace's fifth spectacular 2-in-1 Myth edition.
Love and war go hand in hand when Skeeve "the Great" asks two bumbling bodyguards to join the army of Possiltum-and then finds himself overrun by nubile suitors.
Robert (Lynn) Asprin was born in 1946. While he wrote some stand alone novels such as The Cold Cash War, Tambu, and The Bug Wars and also the Duncan & Mallory Illustrated stories, Bob is best known for his series fantasy, such as the Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve, the Phule's Company novels, and the Time Scout novels written with Linda Evans. He also edited the groundbreaking Thieves' World anthology series with Lynn Abbey. Other collaborations include License Invoked (set in the French Quarter of New Orleans) and several Myth Adventures novels, all written with Jody Lynn Nye.
Bob's final solo work was a contemporary fantasy series called Dragons, again set in New Orleans.
Bob passed away suddenly on May 22, 2008. He is survived by his daughter and son, his mother and his sister.
In the first story, Guido and Nunzio join the army, somehow thinking they can undermine efforts to conquer more territory. In the second story, Skeeve struggles with an offer to become the widow queen's new husband/consort. These characters are still fun.
I have both of these books separately, this is the review for -M.Y.T.H. Inc. in Action-. I plan on reading the next one later this year and then calling it quits on this series.
The saga continues actually overlapping the last book but with different characters. I was probably smiling a lot when I read this but I don't think I laughed out loud once. That's bad for a book I would put in the category of comic or funny fantasy. But it was still fairly entertaining. It is interesting how Asprin decided to write some books with Skeeve and and some without but I think it's the combination of Skeeve and the other characters that makes his books good/funny. I did like this one better than the last book.
----Sweet Myth-tery of Life---------------- It's over. This is the last "Myth" book that I own and I've decided not to buy anymore. So you could say it took me something like 22 years to read this series. I'm just guessing that I read the first one when I was around 15. These last couple haven't been that great so it's time to move on to the Discworld books (I read the first 2 many years ago).
This one was interesting, all about Skeeve's hunt for the perfect woman. So it was a bit more heavy on the sex jokes. Then he got all deep in the end about relationships and marriage. I still never really laughed out loud. So for anyone interested in this series I would suggest you stop somewhere around the 5th book.
