Serie di racconti, scritti da diversi autori,basati sulla caccia al tesoro dei membri della famiglia Cahill che hanno accettato di salvare il mondo, dopo la morte dell'avventuriera Grace.
1) Il labirinto di ossa(3 stelle)
La penna è quella di Riordan che ci presenta Dan e Amy, fratello e sorella giovanissimi che iniziano la caccia al grande segreto lasciato dalla cara nonna Grace, partendo da Boston e arrivando nelle catacombe di Parigi, seguendo inidizi lasciati da Benjamin Franklin, inseguiti da altri personaggi della numerosa e variopinta famiglia. Per ora, Amy e Dan mi sembrano affrontare la situazione come persone molto più grandi di quelle che sono e non mi sono sentita particolarmente incuriosita da questa storia, anzi mi è quasi sembrato che Riordan l'abbia scritta in un momento di noia. Vado avanti con il secondo libro
2)La falsa nota (4 stelle) I Cahill si spostano alla ricerca delle 39 chiavi per svelare il segreto da Vienna a Venezia. Questo secondo libro mi è piaciuto di più : c'è più azione, Dan è molto più spiritoso e attivo, mentre la sorella Amy è meno saputella; Nellie, la ragazza alla pari che accompagna i fratelli in giro per il mondo è molto più caratterizzata;gli altri membri della famiglia sono veramente pronti a tutto per recuperare le chiavi e qui si capisce molto bene le caratteristiche dei diversi rami in cui sono suddivisi i Cahill; ci sono più aneddoti storici interessanti. Non so chi sia Gordon Korman, l'autore di questa avventura, ma mi ha coinvolta più di Riordan. E ora si prosegue in Giappone.
3)Il ladro di spade (3 stelle) Sono qui presenti inseguimenti mozzafiato, tra Giappone e Corea, e sembra quasi di vedere un film. Si inizia a saperne di più del segreto che dà origine alla ricerca delle 39 chiavi, alleanze e tradimenti della famiglia sono nella storia. Tutto molto avventuroso, ma mi sto domandando perché in tutti i libri Amy e Dan finiscono la loro ricerca della chiave sottoterra (catacombe e grotte). Ora partenza per l'Egitto.
4) Messaggi dall'oltretomba (5 stelle) È la ricerca della chiave che più mi è piaciuta fino ad ora. Siamo al Cairo, nella tomba di Nefertiti e poi ad Assuan, ma si va anche lungo il Nilo per sfuggire a cugini invadenti. Nuovi personaggi si affacciano nella storia, ma saranno amici o no? Dan e Amy iniziano ad avere dubbi sulla cara nonna Grace e ad essere anche un po' in conflitto tra loro, Nellie diventa molto più simpatica e il povero gatto Saladdin ( un mau egizio) viene sempre più sballottato nei vari spostamenti. L'ultimo indizio ritrovato porta ad un altro ramo della famiglia Cahill, i Madrigal e quindi ora si va in Russia.
5) Il segreto degli zar (4 stelle) Questa avventura in Russia è stata avvincente, un po' troppo però alla James Bond. Non bisogna dimenticarsi che Amy ha 14 anni e Dan solo 11, ho trovato il modo in cui vengono fuori da certe situazioni troppo inverosimile per la loro età, anche se sono ragazzi molto svegli, curiosi e non si fermano davanti a niente, pur di arrivare ad avere l'ultima chiave. Per la prima volta poi non c'è Nellie e la sua simpatia mi è mancata. Un finale curioso ci porta ora in Australia
6) Rotta verso sud (5 stelle) Questo sesto libro della serie è scritto da una donna e si percepisce bene la differenza con le altre penne. La storia si sposta principalmente su un piano sentimentale;si inizia a saperne di più anche dei genitori di Amy e Dan;le descrizioni delle città australiane sono molto più calde; un bel colpo di scena finale mi ha un po' sorpreso e, proprio perché all'inizio è stato detto ai ragazzini di non fidarsi mai di nessuno, si comincia ad avere dubbi su un caro personaggio. Saladdin, il gatto, ha finalmente capito che non esistono solo le sogliole da mangiare. Per la prima volta, non viene detto al lettore quale sarà la prossima meta del viaggio e quindi sono curiosa di proseguire.
7) Il risveglio del leone (3 stelle) Siamo alla settima avventura e, dal titolo, avevo intuito che ci saremmo trovati a girare in Africa. Questa volta il ritrovamento della chiave non mi ha particolarmente colpita, si passa da un'atmosfera avventurosa ad una quasi da fantascienza sul finale. Quello che hanno di bello tutti questi libri è che, in poche ore, si leggono tranquillamente. Ora si vola in Cina.
8) Il codice dell'imperatore (5 stelle) Un avventuroso giro in Cina, sulla Grande Muraglia, nei templi Shaolin, alla Porta della Città Celeste, per finire sull'Everest. Questa volta Amy e Dan si separano dopo una brutta litigata e trovano diversi indizi, aiutati da Nellie che diventa sempre più strana e ostacolati da diversi membri dei rami della famiglia Cahill. Questa volta mi sono nuovamente sentita immedesimata a pieno nell'avventura, segno che questo Gordon Korman che ha scritto anche il secondo libro della serie, è proprio bravo. Ora via verso i Caraibi.
9) Sull'orlo della tempesta (3 stelle) Finalmente abbiamo vere spiegazioni sulla famiglia Cahill e sul perché di questa ricerca delle 39 chiavi,inoltre Nellie esce allo scoperto. L'ho trovato un po' meno avventuroso, anche se siamo in Giamaica e si gira alla ricerca di tesori di pirati. Ora si va in Inghilterra per l'ultimo libro
10) La chiave di Shakespeare (3 stelle) Ultima avventura per svelare il segreto della famiglia Cahill che vede una Isabel Kabra ancora più spietata. Finalmente si capisce il volere di nonna Grace e il finale si può considerare ancora aperto.
Questi libri si leggono molto velocemente e sono decisamente per ragazzi giovani, hanno molti insegnamenti scritti tra le righe, non manca l'ironia e ogni personaggio della famiglia Cahill è ben caratterizzato. Amy e Dan, spesso sembrano molto più grandi della loro età, per come pensano e per come si destreggiano tra gli enigmi trovati di volta in volta.
Ogni storia è scritta da un autore americano diverso e si capisce bene quale impronta ognuno voglia dare al suo libro, tutti sono riusciti a trasportarmi nei vari luoghi delle storie facendomi trovare usi,costumi,monumenti e ricordi storici caratteristici di ogni posto,inserendo anche veloci notizie storiche vere.
Nel complesso, queste avventure sono molto carine da leggere.

My review is really 4.5 stars for a couple reasons. First, it has a good setup, a bunch of different authors create one book each to create a massive series (with TWO spin-offs & a collectible card "thing") "Round Robin" style.
The story is good, two kids (Amy and Dan Cahill) find out that they are part of the most influential family in the history of mankind. Then they find out that they are part of the (spoilers!) weakest branch of the family(also known as they "just said no" to "magical" DNA altering serum of Giddian Cahill that also prevents plague.). But... "Round Robbin" stories can go anywhere, which can lead to great things and HORRIBLE things(but mostly good.) Anddd... so, it's time for some BAD things! Amy and Dan are extremely stupid sometimes. If you are a fan of professor Layton ds games or other logic puzzles, you will practically be shouting "MOBIOS STRIP! MOBIOS STRIP!" or, "it's not a riddle!"
Overall this is a good series! BUT don't get addicted to (spoiler) 38 ingredients and recipe because "Cahill's V.S. Vespers" will ruin your respect for this great series.
Oh! And look in the inside cover and outside cover for codes! Look hard!

Wow, the first ten books in a word? Awesome.
These books kept me sane in midst of exams, projects and heartbreaks. Take note, this is the review for the whole 10 books, not one by one.
If these books sucked, I wouldn't have continued on to the second volume. These ten books are action packed, and funny at times. It even made me cry (at a certain person's death in book 6 and 9.) Dan and Amy are siblings which are competing in a crazy competition against their own kin, and it's do or die. They might be the underdogs- no money, no parents, just each other- but it seems that they have undiscovered tricks up their sleeves. Equipped with nothing but a great Au Pair, Nellie, a cool and spoiled cat, Amy's great researching skills, and Dan's photographic memory, they're ready to take on the world, and their own relatives who can't wait to put a stainless, cold knife to their throats, all because of the powerful secret of The 39 Clues.

I bought the entire series on eBay. It was popular with many of the quieter students of last year's class so I wanted to see what it was all about.
I am not fond of mysteries but the clues kept me guessing. I was so proud (sad, I know) when I figured out a clue ahead of Dan and Amy. I like that the books taught science, history, and geography to the unwitting readers. I like that the importance of working together was pressed but I'm not sure how I feel about the issue of children working together in order to defeat their evil parents. I like that people actually got hurt and died; kids need to realize that adventure can be dangerous.
I'm going to recommend the series to several of my students. I already have one student who is enthralled by book 1. I'm looking forward to seeing his face when he sees the whole series on my bookshelf.

This entire series is fantastic! Even though the online game may be over, it is well worth reading the series. This is sure to become a series that is in reprint for decades to come.
With each book written by a different children's author, we experience different writing styles and their "take" on the story. Yet clearly the team worked closely together, because all except book 2 maintain the protagonists personalities and character traits (see my concerns with book 2 http://www.litland.com/reviews_9-12/3... ). However, even this book gives parents and teachers something to discuss with their children and students, helping them become good discerners of the written word.
The full collection provides traditional and classroom teachers, babysitters, and kids on vacation lots of opportunity to explore the entire world. While reading each book, check out some of the fun websites I've found http://www.litland.com/reviews_9-12/3... (see activities). I cannot say enough about this series, and I donated my entire set to my local elementary school library!

I'm in my 20s and I found these books quite enjoyable. I used them to help me fall asleep (though sometimes they were a little too exciting for that). Yes, parts seem a bit goofy or forced, and they are written for kids, but all in all I found the storyline quite fascinating. The incorporation of history makes them even more interesting.

These books are full of crazy adventures (free trip around the world 👍), fun learnings and amazing discoveries with Amy and Dan.

Ed è proprio il concetto espresso da Vidal a dominare il viaggio di Amy e Dan Cahill, un viaggio attraverso il mondo ed i segreti di famiglia alla ricerca di un tesoro per il quale combatteranno tra loro tutti i membri, o almeno tutti quelli che hanno rinunciato a un milione di dollari. Ma del resto cos'è un milione rispetto ad un segreto antico di secoli?
Se vi piacciono i misteri, le avventure, i colpi di scena e tematiche coma amicizia, amore, lealtà, tradimento e fiducia questo è il libro per voi.
Con quest'opera firmata Rick Riordan, Gordon Korman, Peter Lerangis, Jude Watson, Patrick Carman, Linda Sue Park e Margaret Peterson Haddix per un progetto di Rick Riordan magistralmente diretto nei suoi 10 volumi, nonostante i loro stili diversi infatti la fluidità con cui si passa da un libro ad un altro mostra la straordinaria capacità di collaborazione di questi scrittori.

The 39 clues is about a group of friends that enter a contest that they have to find and discover 39 clues. The story does have some twists, in one clue it was about giving someone of the team kicked out and all the other clues were about to stay together and do the tasks together. Who are the characters and what do they represent? Amy is the one that is fun and gives motivation to the group, Dan is shy but he discovers most of the clues because he is really smart and has an open mind, Sydney is the one that does all the dangerous things for the group, and Cahill is the one that takes desitions for the group and tells them where to go and what to do. The most important moments of the book where, when they had to make decisions about what to take and where to go. The book changed me because now I am more creative and think outside the box. I would recommend this book to Zoe Ahunchain because she like intense books. Here is more information and quotes from the book.

Sicuramente una lettura che potrebbe piacere molto al target d'età a cui è rivolta, ma risente secondo me del fatto di essere un libro scritto a più mani e da diversi autori, il che si è tradotto nella pratica a parti del libro più interessanti e scritte meglio e altre che invece funzionavano molto meno. Niente di speciale o indimenticabile ma carino se si cerca una lettura leggera, per ragazzi under 15.

this series is very interesting and has a very unique plot. It wasn't my favorite series, but if you are someone who likes action with a bit of mystery, it might be. I think this series would be good for kids
in 4th through 6th grade because it is about middle schoolers and will be easier to connect with the characters at that age. The books themselves are not too long and have the right amount of irony and cliffhangers but not to much that leaves you thinking "i can't believe that happened and i don't want to continue reading." my favorite book was book one and i read them all pretty fast. They aren't necessarily page turners but good enough to keep reading!

Wow, this series was my entire world when I was younger and it single-handedly secured my obsession with this genre. I want badly to re-read it for nostalgia's sake. Also, I JUST realized that Riordan is the one who wrote the first book, which is so ironic to me because I've never read the Percy Jackson series (ily RR you're the best)

My son and I have read this series over the last few months. It's a fun connection of mystery, history, drama and comedy. My 10YO really liked them and I was entertained and interested as well. Suggested for family reading.

We did these as audiobooks over the course of a year. They were intriguing. Formulaic enough that we got hooked and had enough surprises to keep us going. It also gave my kids (ages 6/7 and 8/9) a great crash lesson in world history.

I love this book soooooo much. A great thing about them is they teach you a little bit about historical characters and they are in a series of ten!!!Amazing!!!!!!

Only tried one a bit before dropping. I think it had a girl dating or a cell phone thing that I just didn't care for alongside the diction/language/demographic being not quite up my alley.
