Hunting for Witches is a great beginner's guidebook to the history of the Salem Witch Trials, as well as the historical sites that you can visit today.
The first section of the book provides a chronological account of the witch trials. It explains how the trials began, names the major accusers and all victims, and details the trials' conclusions and aftermath. The second section showcases historical sites within Salem, Danvers (formerly known as Salem Village), and the surrounding communities. It describes each site's significance, physical appearance, and address and operating hours.
While the history is not extremely extensive, it gives a great summary of the major events and players, and is perfect for anyone with a casual/non-scholarly interest in the Salem Witch Trials. Likewise, the historical site information is nothing that cannot be found on the internet today, but it's still nice to have everything compiled in one short book.
If you want a concise guide to Salem's witch history and important sites, Hunting for Witches is a great option. I'll definitely be toting my copy when I take my next trip to Salem.
This book is about the history of the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. It talks about the sites to see in Salem and tells about them. It makes you understand how life was in that time, how religion was a huge impact in Massachusetts and how it influence the Witch trials to happen. Has Pictures of the Sites and helps you plan a trip to Salem and what is good to see. Very good historical information.
This book has not been made into a movie.
I really like this book, it's an excellent tour guide book for Salem, Massachusetts. It's made specifically for Salem Witch trials and it talks about the history and the awesome sites to see. I really like this because it helps me becoming a better tour guide when I move back there and start work there in June. It's also wonderful for people who love history and want to visit there. I would love people to read this! excellent guide!
I've read a couple of books from this Author and am always so pleased with his writing, this didn't miss the mark at all. A very good book for someone just learning the sites in Salem and the surrounding towns. I love how the back of the book describes the more famous sites to visit and gives directions. I also enjoyed the small blurb written about the people that were effected by the Witch Hysteria. Very interesting. I also found myself making notes for our next visit and what to look for in certain cemeteries or locations of the houses of that time era, I do appreciate that. A very well written, informative book.
A preview of what I'd see in diorama form at the Salem Witch Museum in Massachusetts. Not too inspiring, but of some interest especially information about our own family's witch, Susannah North Martin.
