The unbelievably weird, unbelievably brilliant Harry Smith. Last night saw some of his short films after a documentary, The Old Weird America, chronicling a concert series inspired by the re-release of his seminal Anthology of American Folk Music. This is a collection of rambling maddening inspiring tangential and potentially mind blowing interviews.
this book is super hard to find, and then grossly overpriced when you do. i've read it before but wanted to re-read it really bad, so i was pleased to find this at the portland library. it was every bit as amazing as i remembered! harry smith is one of the most inspiring cultural figures i can even conceive of, and this book is as educational as it is fascinating.
