Do you ever hear noises when you lay quietly in your bed at night, and when you ask your parents what it was they say it's the house settling. Well, if you're a true believer you'll know it's the series of Cirque Du Freak coming to life. These books are about a young boy named Darren who makes a mistake that doesn't get him grounded, but dead. Well, undead technically. He was bitten by a vampire and is cursed to wonder the night, while being a vampire assistant. He is a half vampire himself and must follow the lead of his master, Mr. Crepsley, as they feed on the blood of our family and friends. They must worry of the sun and their evil vampeneze cousins who broke away from them hundreds of years ago. Darren and Mr.Crepsley will clash with vicious werewolves, travel through dim murky sewers, and climb treacherous mountains, which are infested with abnormal beings. Friendship, grief, and anguish are all heaved into these books. However, in the end only Darren will be able to decide his fate, human, or vampire. These books are recommended to all the children of the night, and it is guaranteed that Darren Shawn will have you on the edge of your coffin and wearing a scarf by the end of this bloodthirsty series. So readers beware, because you're in for a scare.

This series is one of the best if your interested in reading about vampires. this will blow twilight's girly crap about love and vampires out of the water. this series is about a boy giving up his regular life by becoming a vampire so he could save his friends life after being bit by a turantula. READ the books and you wont have to read this crappy review =D. after turning he has to go through his life fighting vampenze to save the world and so on. i dont want to spoil the story so go on and read the series. you'll see what i mean when i say its better than twilight. =D
This series is one of the strangest I've ever read. Though I absolutely love it. There are only two words to describe the Darren Shan books: weird and funny. The mainline is a boy turning into a vampire and meeting all kinds of creatures. Sounds childish? Kinda. It's not difficult to read, and there's no deeper meaning, but Oh Dear God, you can't help but read ALL books. Marvelous.
Cirque Du Freak was the first book that really caught Brand's attention. He was in 4th or 5th grade at the time and I though it was much to gross for him. Of course, he went on to read everything Darren Shan has ever written and this was the book that got him involved in the genre. Great series. We've passed it to all of his friends!
Ok, I thought there were maybe one or two more of these and I figured I'd read those and finish it off, but now that I've looked it up on Goodreads and see that there are 12, I am so done with it. It was ok. I hate when every chapter ends with a cliffhanger or foreshadowing (and an exclamation point!)
This is a truly wonderful series and I seriously recommend picking them up.
Each of the books are pretty short, so going for these collections of three stories you’re getting much better value for your money and much more fun with each book.
If you’re a vampire fan, if you want something other than vampire romance, jump on this now!
i had never ever never ever read such amazing and brilliant book like darrenshan's!!! man hamaro khoondam gar che az beine 60 70 ta ketabayi ke neveshte faghat 15 tash too keshvare ma oomade !! baese taasoffe ke baghiyeye ketabasho nadarim!!...:((
these books are WOW! If you liked Anne Rice you are going to love Darren shan. He writes so well it is like you are right beside Darren through the book. I read these books a few years back and i still remember the details.
Fresh horror when I first read it/the series. Lots of books that could have been combined into a longer format, but perfect siza for middle school reluctant readers. I'm not going to rate the entire series, but they're all pretty good reads.
i have been reading all of the cirque du freak books and nothing else - kind of keeps you wanting more. on number 9 of 12. i like them - but i like vampire books too!
I've been reading this series with my teenage nephew. I was skeptical at first, but the story line really is good and scarrry. I've read up to the 5th book so far
A quick read for me but a great read for the boys in my class who "hate" reading. Darren Shan seems to keep them interested and it must be the vampirism and spiders.
