I've read this before - a few years ago. It was really awesome. I've always wanted to re-read it, so I'm doing it again.
Bottom line: this book contains some of the time-tested classics for inspirational literature. "As a Man Thinketh - James Allen" "The Great Stone Face - Nathaniel Hawthorne" "The Mansion - Henry Van Dyke" "Acres of Diamonds - Russell H. Conwell" "A Message to Garcia - Elbert Hubbard" "Self-Reliance - Ralph Waldo Emerson" "Compensation - Ralph Waldo Emerson" "The Greatest Thing in the World - Henry Drummond" "The Strength of Being Clean - David Starr Jordan" "The Power of Truth - William George Jordan" "The Majesty of Calmness - William George Jordan" "The Life of Our Lord - Charles Dickens"
If you know of other kinds of books like this, please recommend them to me!
I bought this book because it includes "The Life of Our Lord," by Charles Dickens (and was less expensive than buying Dickens' work separately). Now that I've read all the essays I think it was worth buying just for "The Majesty of Calmness," by William George Jordan. I think I've read it at least ten times over the years. It is a very insightful and thought-provoking work. The book also contains such classics as "The Mansion," by Van Dyke; "Acres of Diamonds," by Conwell; and many others by Emerson, Hawthorne, etc.
A compilation of 12 writings including The Life of Our Lord by Charles Dickens and As a Man Thinketh by James Allen. Although all are wonderful I love The Majesty of Calmness by William George Jordan. Uplifting and inspirational.
I love "The Mansion" by Henry Van Dyke. The story of an old man coming to terms with his conviction that you never give anything away, without getting something out of it.
I really enjoyed the essays included in this book. I almost feel like I need to keep on reading it daily to be reminded of such great truths. A wonderful compilation.
