It's summertime on Sully's street. That means hours of doing nothing, reading comics, and being in love with his neighbor from afar. Then his drunken mom brings home a mysterious hookup.
She may have gotten the night of her life, but she had no idea what she was letting into her bed. And when Sully has to deal with her new friend, strange things happen. New feelings emerge, Sully's mom falls apart, and he's forced to choose between his carnal instincts and his humanity.
It's a test of desire vs. love, body vs. mind, and man vs. bug. A lot of bugs...
Larval Seeds is EXTREME HORROR. You should not read this. You've been warned.

So this was just pure violence, gore, and ooey gooey spectacle. Yuck! This was my first DW Hitz book and its splatterpunky goodness won me over. I may not eat rice for awhile, or look at bugs the same way again, but that just means his delivery was effective. If you’re squeamish or fragile to certain content, whether sexual or gore, I’d steer clear of this. However, for the rest of us deviants, I highly recommend this story. Now I did want a little more character development for both Callie and Sully, and there were a few times that it got a bit confusing when she was in and out of her thoughts. But even with some minimal critiques, I enjoyed myself here, and will be looking into Hitz’s other offerings.
Sully Richardson is a sixteen year old, who loves his comic books, and Callie Kross, his eighteen year old neighbour, who used to babysit him when he was younger.
One day, Sully’s mother returns home, drunk and with a man, and heads straight to the bedroom for some sexy time. The next day there is a putrid, earthy stench which is taking over the whole house...
Thank you to the author D.W. Hitz for sending me the ARC, in return for an honest review.
This book is packed full of gore, blood, maggots, sex and violence and goes from 0-100 from the very first page, until the brilliant end.
This is a MUST READ, for fans of extreme horror/Splatterpunk, and is a rollercoaster throughout.
This is my first book by the author, but I will definitely be reading a lot more from him.
I honestly wasn't blown away with this book,it started off with good intentions then went down hill faster than a push bike without any brakes!! 🚲 It was droll, dull and incredibly boring at times.😴 Then it ended with farfetched rubbish.🗑️ I expected more from this book and was rather disappointed with it and in my opinion it only deserves 2 maggot & bug infested stars 🐛🐛🦗🦗⭐⭐
This is one of those stories that starts at the end and goes full circle and it's brilliantly done! You get a bit of a teaser as to where this is going to end up, before being thrown right in amongst it all!
Sully is going underground to find his next meal, a real delicacy in his parts, for him anyway….
After his Dads death, his Mum turns to drugs and alcohol and other men, leaving him to his room and his comics, and his huge crush on Callie…
Callie is the neighbour, ex-babysitter and Sully's refuge when things get bad at home….
Andrew is Sully's Mums latest conquest, and he really gives it his all in their relationship, and then some! And he sticks around, lingering, just like the smell radiating off him…
The smell is just the start, then the taste, the thoughts, the strange urges and cravings that take over seemingly out of nowhere.
Maureen is Callies Mum, and her plight! WOW!! I felt absolutely everything with her, I was egging her on, willing her to get through it, determined she could do it, and fearing along with her. I felt her panic vividly!
This story had me outwardly cringing from the very first paragraph, and it didn't really let up! Gripping, brutal and completely horrifying. With a creepy, sinister, disturbing feeling throughout. The pacing was perfect and kept me turning the pages and wanting more.
This is a wild, blood soaked, gore fest, that will make you squirm, gag and have some truly messed up nightmares! High energy, breath holding, edge of your seat horror that will leave you itching….forever!!
Gross, Crazy and Addictive. This book spends no time at all cranking its way up the gears, and when it gets there, it just keeps you there in all its squirming and foul glory! Fast-paced, no-nonsense, Extreme Horror.
I don’t think there’s a word for something that’s delightfully disgusting. Just know, if there was, I would be using it do describe this book. For someone who eschews anything repulsive, I sure do gravitate to it when it comes to literature. Maybe cuz I know it can’t touch me or my sensitive nostrils, just festers in my overactive imagination. 🥴 This story comes out swinging tho, you are thrown right into a home where things seem…off. Then the repulsive elements kick in. Then that gets cranked up about halfway through when Hitz slams the throttle into full-blown repugnance & never lets up. We get no backstory, nor closure, just big time gross-outs & maybe that’s what we need sometimes. Life doesn’t always wrap things up in neat little packages. Sometimes those packages smell like septic head-wounds, are leaking pus, and have maggots crawling in and out of them. 🤷🏽♂️ I got the heebie-jeebies more than a few times reading this. The sex scenes were SO out there and amped up the whole…parasitic POV but sweet baby jeebus, I fear my libido won’t recover from this till at LEAST like…an hour from now. Hella gross, hella depraved, hella recommended. I appreciate your brain D.W. Hitz, I hope it stays protected from the larvae. 🐛
p.s. YOU’VE RUINED SPAGHETTI & FAJITAS FOR ME FOREVER.
Sully Richardson is a sixteen year old boy who has begun making decisions with independence in mind. Sully is coping with a single parent household and an innocent crush on his babysitter. However, when his Mother begins a strange relationship with an unusual outsider, life takes a turn towards the bizarre. A life of submissive flesh, forbidding sexuality and worms.
Larval Seeds by D.W. Hitz is a perfect example of extreme off-beat splatter goodness. Mainstream characters with typical lifestyles are surrounded with impurities of disgust and sick abnormalities. Prepare yourself for violent body transformations and vivid scenes of lustful gore that would make Clive Barker blush. Pretty much equivalent to a psychiatrist holding up a Realistic Science Anatomy Doll and asking you, “where did D.W. Hitz touch you?”
After reading his opus Bloodtooth, and now Larval Seeds, this author has shown how versatile his writing talents are. For these reasons I have become a dedicated reader and a fan of his work. Equipped with carving knife and paper, Hitz brings his slimy crawly and squiggly wiggly things to surface. No doubt this book is a bile driven effort of the written word.
Readers should expect involuntary gag reflexes stemming from neural pathways of vulgarity. You have been warned, so open your urethra wide and say…ahh! Here comes a sick spoonful of Hitz horror. This was a fun book to read, and a fun review to write. A five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.
"He rolled the toe around in his mouth, across the back of his tongue, and then to the side, where he popped it like a flaccid cherry."
This book was so incredibly messed up. I spent most of the time reading this whispering "what the fuck" to myself. It was disturbing in so many ways and yet, I could not put it down. There were a few sex scenes, and you know how I feel about them, but they were so messed up that I actually didn't mind. A must-read for fans of extreme horror and splatterpunk.
Sully seemed like your average young boy. Hanging at home on summer vacation, reading comics. It’s just him and his mom now since his dad passed. He thought his mom would wait longer to find herself someone new, but she wasted no time in bringing Andy home. Something about Andy is different and Sully can’t quite figure it out. As time goes on, strange and sick things start happening. His mom changes, and even Sully himself starts feeling different. Andy brings quite a surprise to the Richardson house.
From start to finish this book is dark and gruesome. Hitz wastes no time in tossing out all the nasty gory details of the chaos that Andy brings. What starts as a good time between adults quickly becomes much more than Danielle bargained for. The scenes inside and the descriptions used by Hitz will leave nothing to the imagination. I mean nothing. Your skin will crawl, and you might even gag a few times.
I’ve read several books by Hitz, and Larval Seeds is definitely different from his other works. I can’t say I’m surprised at the descriptiveness after reading Bloodtooth but this book presents a different side of Hitz that is pretty impressive and quite terrifying. Now that he’s dipped his toes into extreme horror and nailed it, I can’t wait to see what else he comes up with. If you enjoy body horror, grab a copy of this!
This was the first time that I’ve read a book from this author and I am glad that I did. This book is so damn good, it had me hooked from the beginning. It is absolutely disgusting and terrifying, it definitely made my skin crawl. If you’re looking for an extreme horror book with tons of body horror then this is definitely the book for you.
It's rare that words fail me, but here we are. The level of WTF in this one might just exceed anything I've read. Hitz even managed to get a gag out of me. The story is twisted, the gore is beyond brutal, and I loved every moment. I'm not sure what that says about me, but it put Hitz at the top of my list of newly discovered authors.
Crazy concept and definitely very gross and wriggly. Book just gets nastier and nastier the more you want things to be ok for the characters. First time I've read any of D.W.Hitz work and really enjoyed it.
As someone who hates bugs or crawlies of any sort this book was nightmare inducing in the best way! Definitely worth a read, will b looking 4 more from this author x
Larval Seeds By: D.W. Hitz Lord…. Please forgive me for reading that book right there….This book was one of my first true splatter punk/ extreme horror books and I can honestly say I totally loved it! It was completely unhinged and even when I was cringing and thinking what in the actual F- I still couldn’t put it down! Please PLEASE heed all trigger warnings as this is absolutely not for the faint of heart, easily Squamish or light horror reader. But I can say that I kinda dig extreme horror so far! I love bugs and entomology so when the Author asked me to ARC read this for them I said yes based off the maggots!! I weirdly like maggots haha! I was horrified and completely disgusted In The absolute best way!!!!! ( thank you so much D.W.Hitz for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!)
If the title and cover don’t tell you what you’re in for, then I will.
Larva. Maggots. Insects. And lots of them. And a great, sick story to go along with the wriggling masses of life. This is an extreme horror, and Hitz doesn’t let you forget it.
It’s summer and Sully is prepared for time off school and having fun. However, his mother stands in the way of that with her behaviour of drinking and bringing strange men home.
Sully finds solace in his comics, and in his next door neighbor who is also his babysitter. It doesn’t hurt that he happens to have a crush on her and can spend time with her.
Things turn sour when Sullys mother brings home a very strange man, and that’s where it gets sick and depraved. Will Sully be able to hold on to his humanity as he finds himself changing?
This story turned my stomach as much as it had me turning pages, as I loved it so much. I’m a sucker for a good insect themed story and this one delivers.
This book reminded me of the show Monsters Inside Me. Except the hosts aim was to infect other people. I won’t say too much about this book. But I will say the thought of parasites or bugs entering my body and not leaving makes me gag and itch. This book will make you uncomfortable but it was such a fun story. If you don’t like bugs or books about bugs skip this. Otherwise dig in 🪳
Larval Seeds was a fun, quick horror read that was hard to put down. It is more gross than gory, but it does have some body horror elements. I don't know how the author did it, but this book was hard to read and hard to put down at the same time. It made for a wild ride and I'm really excited to see what else the author has written.
We follow Sully a young man who loves his comics and his gorgeous neighbour babysitter who, after his mom brings one of her dates home, a strange man. After that date, his mom acts strange and Sully goes through changes.
A gross and disgusting story filled with violence, gore, blood, sex and creepy crawlers. I’ve never shudder more then while reading this story. Maggots are the only bugs who gives me the creeps.
Just finished this book as it was given to me by the Author and WOW! I couldn't stop reading this book! I may have a new found fear of bugs! The details will have you on the edge of your seat and every itch will be turned to a paranoia. Highly recommend 👌
I rate 5 stars because I actually had to put this down several times because I couldn't stomach it. Weird because I've been reading books in Extreme horror but this one.. extremely detailed and graphic. Loved it! Definately reccomending it!
