How do you reset your life after the person you’ve spent nearly two decades with says they’re not sure they ever loved you?
I didn’t realize this painful moment would be the beginning of a process toward finding answers which would be my healing elixir. Saying Yes to spontaneous travel and meeting unexpected friends resulted in a newfound freedom leading to even more adventures.
In Finding The Elixir by Scott Looney, we gain an appreciation of how finding hope—and happiness—is possible after various life transitions occur. As some chapters end, others continually emerge when connecting with people, places and moments.
In order to move forward, we have to develop new perspectives on the past, writes Scott Looney, author of Finding The Elixir: How Spontaneous Travel and Unexpected Friendships Helped Reset My Life. His book is a tour de force that will leave your head spinning with all of the people, places and things he's experienced after his divorce. Most notably, his love of baseball games and stadiums is contagious. If one day you find yourself in a nearly deserted ballpark and notice a man wandering around here, there and everywhere and wonder who it could be, it's probably Looney.
Alana Stewart once said, "I used to think that divorce meant failure, but now I see it more as a step along the path of self-realization and growth." This book epitomizes that.
If you're looking for a book to change your perspective, this is the one.
I enjoyed reading Scott’s book about navigating life after a divorce. In reading this book, I felt like I learned something new, which I liked as well. I liked how he tied traveling and baseball together, and even though I don’t know much about the sport, it was fun to read about the games he went to in different parts of the US. Whether you’re a fan of baseball books or traveling books, I can definitely recommend this one.
This is a book about rediscovering yourself and about not missing opportunities when they pop up in front of you. Scott says he has never regretted using his credit card for travel opportunities. "Going into debt to travel is worth it - as long as you don't go overboard." This is advice I am going to contemplate going forward!
Also I am embarrassed to say I learned about the red seat at Fenway by reading this book!
Finding the Elixir is a feel-good story about healing and finding yourself after heartbreak. It’s a gentle reminder that it’s never too late to grow and try something new. The author is inspiring and easy to connect with.
