This Doc is funny!
My daughter, brought me three new vastly different books to peruse – if I thought they looked interesting to read, I was welcomed to – just return them. Last night I read a bit from the back covers, a paragraph here and there and I chose Never Trust A Sneaky Pony because of the title and the artwork and the writing, of course. It is written by a mostly horse veterinarian now practicing in New Mexico. I’ve never been on a horse and wasn’t sure I’d enjoy it, but because of the writing decided to give it a go.
Madison Seamans, MS, DVM, tells the story of his early life pursuing a veterinarian degree, his dedication to the field and funny college stories with good friends. Finally, he graduates and starts his practice. First in California, I think. He has practiced mostly in the Southwest of the country.
If you are interested in how horses’ bodies work, you’ll find out by reading this book. If you’re entertained by working with the public stories and with heart felt situations, or truly outrageously deranged wild laughter: laughing until you have the hiccups, this is a book for you.
Oh my, oh my, I have not laughed this hard since a friend back forty years ago took me to a bar/comedy club in a strip mall off of Independence Blvd in Virginia Beach. That very young comedian was Jay Leno. He was an artist, a true master of a two-hour entertainment for young, old, sailors, men and women in suits, and everyone in-between. He’d slowly introduce you to a story, slowly develop characters and then would weave in the funniest stories I’d ever heard. Just clean funny true-life stories. Everyone in the audience of that small venue was almost rolling in the isles. We all laughed until we couldn’t. My stomach, my sides and my cheeks ached the next day.
That is how much I laughed last night when Madison Seamans wove his subtle, caring, stories: some with an ending that made me laugh until tears ran down my face. I cannot remember laughing like that for so many years. It was cathartic.
This book should definitely be a best seller because I can’t think of one person I know who would not enjoy it. I mean Really Enjoy It.
