About the author

Dr Stuart Burgess, BSc, PhD, CEng, MIMechE, is a Reader in Engineering Design at Bristol University. His research areas include the study of design in nature. He previously worked in industry, designing rocket and satellite systems for the European Space Agency. He is winner of the Worshipful Company of Turners Gold Medal for the design of the solar array deployment system on the 1.4 billion ENVISAT earth observation satellite.

...procesul evoluției se lovește de constrângeri mult mai drastice decât cele la care sunt supuși orice proiectanți umani. Noi, biologii, recunoaștem aceste constrângeri, însă de multe ori nu ne ridicăm deasupra rasismului nostru natural și nu facem suficientă gălăgie în privința lor. Fiecare organism trebuie să se dezvolte de la un stadiu cu dimensiuni mai mici la un stadiu cu dimensiuni mai mari. Nevoia de creștere fără pierderea funcționalității poate impune limitări geometrice stricte.

Este aproape sigur că biologii nu recunosc aceste constrângeri deoarece văd contrastul dintre limitările evoluției și configurația supremă în natură. Dacă publicul larg ar înțelege că procesul evoluției este foarte strict îngrădit, ar respinge mult mai ușor evoluția ca posibilă explicație a originii vieții. [Stuart Burgess]

When I was a child, my teachers taught evolution like it was gospel truth and ridiculed me for daring to entertain the notion that there is a power higher than humanity that created the universe. Reading this book feels like such a breath of fresh air: no evolution doesn't explain the complexities we see on nature and yes, believing in a designer that created our world is the only conclusion that modern science can draw. Stuart Burgess very skilfully lays out reasons, arguments and counter-arguments. Hopefully this will cause many people to question the narrow, under-evidenced and harmful theory of evolution.
