With High Fiber, High Flavor , eating healthily and getting lots of fiber doesn't have to be boring or bran-bland. Author Rosemary Moon uses foods naturally high in fiber in over 180 delicious dishes touching on cuisines from around the world, from soups and appetizers to main courses, vegetables, breads, and desserts. The book
As I review this book I remember I first purchased it to attempt to tempt my wilful daughter into healthier eating habits. It was a battle for a range of reasons, not the least other influences in her family life. She went to live with that ‘other influence’ after we divorced, and it has taken some time for her to come to me with questions about how to make her life more healthy out of her own need and recognition. I now intend to make a gift of this book to her for Christmas.
What I love about the layout here is the simplicity of getting straight into the recipes without having to know the why of it beforehand. I think there is enough appeal in the images and combination of ready ingredients to capture her attention now. Then as she is ready, reading the information in the front of the book will inform her about the thinking behind food which she is now becoming so desperate to understand.
Even something so simple as ‘I find the word “diet” can be off-putting.’ Sounds so much like me, but it is not me so it doesn’t have to be rejected simply in some false loyalty to someone who still has no idea how to look after himself, let alone her! Fibre is all about the greater depths of ourselves, and how we weave them into the fabric of our being. Rosemary Moon presents it as a deep joy, nurturing and nourishing on more levels than the substances we ingest. It is after all what we make of it that brings food to life. Enjoy!
