The book is about a tragic life story of a potentially bright girl in a village, brought up by her uncle in absence of parents, got married of at a young age to much elder man to her & got widowed soon after. Thereafter, book describes the life & plights of widow women in vrindavan in Mathura. The girl seems to get new lease of life when she gets a chance to leave this ashram at vrindavan & teach rural children under patronage of a rich seemingly wise woman. She then tries to take some exams to complete her dream of further studies & just when you think, it's finally 'all's well that ends well- happy ending story, another unexpected, unpleasant surprise awaited her that changes her life forever. You feel sorry for the character. One of that books that's tragic throughout. I have read this book quite a few days ago. Just got the time & inclination to review it now. I can give 2.5 to 3 stars for this one.

The author has mentioned real life problems related to "dharma". How we had made religion a business. There is no love, kindness and other human values in a religious city like Vrindavan.
