elevnth edition, 1987. blue covers with torn black envelope, John B. on the stamp. stain on fore egde, lightly toned page edges. A humorous peep at the correspondence of an Irish parliamentary deputy.
The is a tiny book by a very funny Irish writer. It consists of letters back a forth between the TD (i.e. Irish representative) and his family. Keane was very controversial in Ireland and I think I know why. He had a brilliant knack of describing the Irish as they really are instead of the way they wish they were. And in doing that he described us all.
Funny through and through. I always enjoy these kinds of "letter" books, and Keane can write them with the right balance between sarcasm and charm. Robertson Davies and Ted Nancy can also create these characters to perfection via this format. Recommended to anyone who wants a close look at Irish politics that still prevail.
