Taking on Giants

Rate this book
"What we did in taking on this giant in our Promised Land would define our lives and ministry. Either we would run away defeated or we would be courageous and victorious with God s help."

Hearing God's call to serve as a missionary in the French-speaking world, Joe Portale responded with excitement, boldness, and humility. His lifelong dreams were being fulfilled, and the land God had promised was within reach.

But the journey was not easy. From spiritual forces in France to the perilous Sahara desert to war and poverty in Southeast Asia, Joe and his ministry team persevered through many challenges. Their successes and failures provide a roadmap for all who would respond to God's call, an instructive account of pursuing one's life vocation and ministry.

This book was hard to put down. True story of following God in the missionary field from a dream a 9 year old boy had to minister to French speaking Africa. This story starts out with a dangerous, almost deadly journey across the Sahara desert....then God lead this man later into Southeast Asia during war time! Yet the hand of God is on him and is directing the ministry He has put on this man's life. It concludes with the real life manifestation of John 12:24....I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.......which when this mans dreams of French speaking Africa ministry is taken away and given back to God, that his time there and also in Southeast Asia really was quiet fruitful. Beyond anything he could have imagined. I loved this story and has given me a greater thirst to pray for what God wants me to do in my own life.
