Amanda Scott, USA Today Bestselling Author and winner of Romance Writers of America’s RITA/Golden Medallion (LORD ABBERLEY'S NEMESIS) and Romantic Times’ Awards for Best Regency Author and Best Sensual Regency (RAVENWOOD'S LADY), Lifetime Achievement (2007) and Best Scottish Historical (BORDER MOONLIGHT, 2008), began writing on a dare from her husband. She has sold every manuscript she has written.

Amanda is a fourth-generation Californian, who was born and raised in Salinas and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in history from Mills College in Oakland. She did graduate work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, specializing in British History, before obtaining her Master’s in History from California State University at San Jose. She now lives with her husband and son in northern California.

As a child, Amanda Scott was a model for O’Connor Moffatt in San Francisco (now Macy’s). She was also a Sputnik child, one of those selected after the satellite went up for one of California’s first programs for gifted children. She remained in that program through high school. After graduate school, she taught for the Salinas City School District for three years before marrying her husband, who was then a captain in the Air Force. They lived in Honolulu for a year, then in Papillion, Nebraska, for seven. Their son was born in Nebraska. They have lived in northern California since 1980.

Scott grew up in a family of lawyers, and is descended from a long line of them. Her father was a three-term District Attorney of Monterey County before his death in 1955 at age 36. Her grandfather was City Attorney of Salinas for 36 years after serving two terms as District Attorney, and two of her ancestors were State Supreme Court Justices (one in Missouri, the other the first Supreme Court Justice for the State of Arkansas). One brother, having carried on the Scott tradition in the Monterey County DA’s office, is now a judge. The other is an electrician in Knoxville, TN, and her sister is a teacher in the Sacramento area.

The women of Amanda Scott’s family have been no less successful than the men. Her mother was a child actress known as Baby Lowell, who performed all over the west coast and in Hollywood movies, and then was a dancer with the San Francisco Opera Ballet until her marriage. Her mother’s sister, Loretta Lowell, was also a child actress. She performed in the Our Gang comedies and in several Loretta Young movies before becoming one of the first women in the US Air Force. Scott's paternal grandmother was active in local and State politics and served as president of the California State PTA, and her maternal grandmother was a teacher (and stage mother) before working for Monterey County. The place of women in Scott’s family has always been a strong one. Though they married strong men, the women have, for generations, been well educated and encouraged to succeed at whatever they chose to do.

Amanda Scott’s first book was OMAHA CITY ARCHITECTURE, a coffee-table photo essay on the historical architecture of Omaha, written for Landmarks, Inc. under her married name as a Junior League project. Others took the photos; she did the research and wrote the text on an old Smith-Corona portable electric. She sold her first novel, THE FUGITIVE HEIRESS - likewise written on the battered Smith-Corona in 1980. Since then, she has sold many more books, but since the second one she has used a word processor and computer. Twenty-five of her novels are set in the English Regency period (1810-1820). Others are set in 15th-century England and 14th- through 18th-century Scotland, and three are contemporary romances. Many of her titles are currently available at bookstores and online.

Amanda Scott has a wicked sense of humor as she helps a wounded Scottish nobleman search for a fabled Templar Treasure. Not wanting anything to do with marriage, she flees with the wounded man, only to find herself questioning her former ideas about marriage and men. Meanwhile, evil forces are at work who also are desirous of the treasure. Does it even Exist? This is a well written and humorous as well as bit of mystery story.

This was a fun, adventurous story with the added bonus of a good romance. Isobel is nineteen-years-old, willful, independent, feisty, stubborn, and perhaps a little bit naïve. Chafing under the rules that govern a "lady's" behavior, Isobel escapes whenever she can. On this occasion, she rode out alone and stumbled upon a man being beaten by strangers. Rather than go for help, she rushed in to try to help. Instead, she was also captured. Her naivety showed in her belief that just telling them who she was would make them stop. Her stubbornness also showed in her refusal to sit back and accept whatever would happen. I enjoyed her take-charge attitude as she engineered their escape, and wondered a little at the rather docile attitude of the man she rescued.

Michael is a knight from a powerful family. He is strong, brave, intelligent, and determined. While visiting a friend, Michael indulged in one of his passions - exploring caves. He went out early one morning and was attacked by men who believed that he knew something about a long lost treasure. His prospects for survival don't look good. He was stunned by the arrival of and attempted interference by a beautiful woman. It was fun to see his surprise as Isobel found a way to free them both and managed their escape. I found it interesting that he seemed content to let her do so, making only a few mild suggestions.

I enjoyed how the development of Michael and Isobel's relationship was intertwined with the adventure of Templar treasure. There were sparks between them from the start. Isobel tried to ignore them, as she was determined that she would never marry. Her observations of marriage led her to believe it was more prison than pleasure, something that did not suit her independent nature. Michael was intrigued by Isobel and her independence, and also frequently frustrated by her actions. He also found himself increasingly protective of her. When they reached the safety of her brother-in-law's home, matters became more complicated. To protect her reputation, Michael proposed marriage but had to overcome several obstacles before she would agree. There were several instances when I really wanted to shake Isobel because she was only thinking of herself. She had almost succeeded in keeping her freedom until a stupid decision on her part sealed her fate, and she discovered a different side to the previously mild-mannered Michael. I liked seeing them get to know each other. Both had some issues with trust, and I loved seeing how they handled those problems. There were some terrific scenes that showed the growing depth of their feelings and the way they showed them. The conclusion was quite intense, and I loved how they expressed their feelings at the end.

The adventure part of the story was very good. I enjoyed the concept of the missing Templar's treasure and the conflict between those who wanted it. It was clear from the start that Waldron would do anything to get his hands on it, and Michael was equally determined to keep it safe. The problem was that no one knew where it was, and the race was on to see who would find it first. Adding further complications was the impending installation of Michael's brother Henry as the ruler of the Orkneys. I loved the involvement of Isobel's family and connections in protecting both Isobel and Michael. There were some fantastic scenes with Hector and Lachlan as plans were made and carried out. The sea battle was exciting and gave a hint of what was to come. I loved the group's arrival at Henry's and the conversation among him, Michael, and Isobel regarding the treasure. I especially enjoyed that it was Isobel who discovered something that neither of the men had noticed about the letter that Henry had. Waldron's deviousness was evident in his actions here, and there were some tense moments before it was all over. I was on the edge of my seat as Michael and Isobel arrived at Rosslyn and continued their search for the treasure. Waldron's reappearance was not unexpected, and this confrontation reminded me of the one at the beginning of the book. I loved Isobel's method of self-defense and her presence of mind as she dealt with each threat. There was assistance from an unexpected source and a very satisfying ending.

The book was full of beautiful scenes of the Scottish Isles, and the history was interesting. Some of the conversations went on too long, too much back and forth. And so many stories left to complete at the end--it does make you want to read the series. It dragged in the middle, but the end was exciting and I'm glad I finished it. I need to read on to see how the clan MacLeod continued its lineage after this generation of all daughters.

This book was ovrall ok and was readable, i liked the knights templar idea, and the history that was put into this novel. however, there was also alot of drawbacks, the banter between the hero and heroine for the entire first third of the book was horrid, it drove me crazy and i wanted to throw the book against the wall, but once the author sort of found the characters it did improve a bit and became less annoying. Also the male main character completly changes form the first half to the last half, the author trys to make it seem as if it were on perpose but its like they are two different people and its hard to reconcile the two into one character. Also the book felt as if it needed more then 300 pages to get everyting in, alot of details felt left out and often the elaborations within the sory felt missplaced. the intresting stuff was sort of glazed over but the less importent things were very indetail which was odd, but the point did manage to get across.

overall not bad but could have been better

OMG, this book is SOOO bad. Okay so the love story was cute, and the first 25 pages were freeekin awesome. But it just went way down hill after that. All they did was talk about what happened in the first 25 pages, then later they talked about talking about what happened in the first 25 pages....dont read it.

This book takes me back to all the places I visited while in Scotland. Scott does an admiral job of describing St. Clair castle and tying in the Templar legend. She manages to take what I heard as legend when visiting the Roslin Chapel and make a fun and adventurous tale.

When Lady Isobel saves Michael's life, she finds herself married to him.

Isobel and Michael are definitely flawed and it's sometimes hard to enjoy them.

This takes place in the highlands/islands of Scotland, especially Mull, so I liked reading about locations I've been to. Interesting blend of real and fictional characters, too.

I love Ms. Scott's books. They are hard to put down, but you also learn abit about Scottish history because of all the research she puts into her books.

Hard to follow at times. Some of the choices seemed really dumb, more logical options were not considered.

Siento que le faltó amor. Las escenas de acción están bien, con la espada y eso pero debería haber tenido más. MÁS pasión. Pero estuvo bien. Me gustó

It was...

A slow paced novel. I enjoyed the characters and the continuation of the series. I hope that the next one is a little faster.
