A fascinating 'day in the life' look at the natural world. The rainforest is an exciting place, full of activity and colour. Come face-to-face with the amazing creatures that live in this wonderful tropical world. Discover why macaws eat clay before breakfast, find out how anteaters demolish ant's nests at lunchtime, see beautiful flowers bloom in mid-afternoon and follow an ocelot as it prowls its territory at night. Supports National Science Curriculum at Key Stage 1 and is ideal for early project work. There's more than just rain and trees in the rainforest!
I reached the last day of 2023 and I still had two books to go on my Reading Challenge. No problem, I'll just read some childrens' books from DK. But don't laugh, I didn't already know everything in this book. For example I don't think I had heard of the paca before.
It looks like a great book for children though. However, it presents a sanitized picture of the rainforest. I guess you have to let children grow up a little more before you tell them that humans are busily destroying everything in this book. Not to mention the habitable climate that they may have been counting on for their survival.
This series is excellent for teaching habitat to little kids. I've just developed a unit of work for them to research what 'their' animal is doing at different times of the day in 'expert groups'. I'll be uploading it soon to my LisaHillSchoolStuff website for teachers to download.
