She started her career as a rocket scientist and quickly switched to a software engineer and systems administrator, where she insisted that Y2K was just a figure concocted for how much a computer geek can make in one day after convincing the newspapers the world’s computer systems are going to crash.
Taking her money and running, Maggie learned through racing sled dogs, that dogs are a lot like computers (they don’t do anything you want unless you speak their language and can be just as stubborn). She holds the prestigious three-time Red Lantern Award at the American Dog Derby (the oldest sled dog race in North America) and was featured in the Ashton Daily News as the only musher whose ten-dog team chased a Pomeranian into the backyard of the local gossip columnist.
Despite such harrowing experiences, she has braved whiteouts in Wyoming and swamps in Minnesota (as well as the fearsome Idaho Pomeranian) and learned much about dog and wolf behavior. She’s a world-renown expert in canine behavior and training. She’s lost count on how many articles she has published in various consumer and trade magazines and websites, but figures it’s over a hundred by now.
M. H. Bonham is the author of Prophecy of Swords and Runestone of Teiwas, both heroic fantasy books in the Swords of Destiny Series published by Yard Dog Press, which share the world with Lachlei. Her work has also appeared in the Four Bubbas of the Apocalypse, Small Bites, Houston, We’ve Got Bubbas, A Time To..., Flush Fiction anthologies, Lorelei Signal, Kidvisions and Tales of the Talisman magazine, and Amazon Shorts.
She writes science fiction, fantasy, and mystery, having taken courses appropriate to a software engineering background such as Anglo Saxon, Latin, and Beowulf. When she’s not racing her geriatric sled dogs, she’s climbing mountains, hiking, and practicing Shotokan Karate (she’s a brown belt) and Ninjitsu. She is currently working on her master’s degree in Liberal Studies. She shares her home at 4000 ft — where most people swear there isn’t any oxygen and you can’t find that altitude on the high altitude directions for cake — with four Malamutes, six Alaskan Huskies, a tortoiseshell cat, deer, elk, foxes, coyotes, mountain lions, bobcats, and bears. Her husband, Larry, indulges her lunacy.

This story is set in a universe where there are nine separate worlds, connected to each other through the World Tree. This is the source of the Web of Wyrd, which runs through the Nine Worlds. A millennia ago, the three warring gods nearly destroyed mankind. Now one of them, Areyn Sehduk, the god of death, has returned to finish the job.
He kills Fialan, leader of the lochvaur, hoping to tip the balance of power in his favor. Sehduk does not take into account that he has created a powerful enemy in Lachlei, queen of the lochvaur. Vowing vengeance against the rival clan led by Sehduk, Lachlei leads her people into a fight against demons and the undead.
Rhyn’athel, another of the three gods, is the only being powerful enough to defeat Sehduk. He takes human form, and joins Lachlei’s warriors, in order to stop Sehduk, once and for all. He doesn’t reveal his identity to Lachlei, but his abilities are not those of the average mortal. Rhyn’athel also falls in love with Lachlei.
Meantime, Fialan is not exactly dead. He finds himself on Tarentor, another of the Nine Worlds, part of an army of the dead. It’s controlled by Sehduk, so the warriors have no free will, and are forced to fight against their own people. Once on Elren, where this takes place, they must eat real food, and they have corporeal form. Every minute they are there, they become more of Elren, and less of Tarentor.
This is an excellent sword and sorcery novel that is pretty heavy on the sorcery part. It’s got good characters, led by a very strong female warrior, it’s got an exciting story, and it is very much recommended.

When I first read Propecy of Swords, I felt that there was a fully developed backstory that I was missing. That back story is presented here in Lachlei. Bonham's Lachlei underpins Prophecy of swords nicely. Fans of the series will not be dissappointed.

M.H. Bonham spins a compelling and exciting story in this prequel to The Prophecy of Swords and The Runestone of Teiwas.

I actually really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
