Alexandra Riley expected it to be just another day, with coffee in hand for her and her father, she was ready to get to work at his auto shop. Alexandra had felt unsettled lately but figured it was just a passing feeling, until today when she found out who she truly was, a half-breed daughter of a powerful Alpha wolf. Before she has time to absorb that werewolf's are real, she has been thrown into the protective watch of Joshua Striker, an enforcer from the Wolf Creek Pack, who her father used to be Alpha for.

Joshua knows he has just met his mate, but customs have to be followed and he cannot take Alexandra until the other pack members have been able to meet her. She is not making it easy though, for she is ready to stake her claim on him and her stubborn, yet sexy sassiness, has Joshua worrying that he will not be able to protect her from others who are trying to claim her for their clans. In a rush the have to fight together to get her safely to her new home.

Excellent book, had a cat and mouse chase to the very end. The interaction between Alexandra and Joshua is fascinating, she is trying to understand this new world where she would be a submissive mate, but she is sassy alpha herself and has Joshua in fits trying to keep himself from claiming what she is willingly offering. A must read for shifter fans.

There was nothing in this book!! No major climax!! Nothing that would make me get into this book at all. How lame can this book get?? It's luck that I am giving it one star for werewolves. The characters ticked me off that I was rooting for the bounty hunters to just kill Alex and Josh.

The only thing was Alex and Josh making it to wolf creek. You would think there would be something big like the bounty hunters captured her or almost killed her (wish she didn't make it though). As for Josh, he needed to go. Right in the beginning of the book he comes in with a stupid hard on??? Dude, wait till you spend time with her!!!

Anyways the book was just completely lame. There was no spark and I am not going to throw money away on this series if there isn't going to be exciting climax at some point. James is the only one in the entire book I actually cared for. The others can bend over backwards for all I care, nothing is changing my mind on liking them.

I’ve been working on a Top Ten Shifter series post and felt like I needed to revisit some of the older shifter books on my shelf. Needless to say, I’ve been in shifter heaven. It’s been years since I read the Legacy Series. It was one of the series I devoured after doing a switch over from Urban Fantasy to paranormal romance. It’s been long enough that when I opened Alexandra’s Legacy up, I only had a few vague memories of the storyline apart from knowing I enjoyed it.

This world has a slightly different take on shifters than many others I’ve read. Shifter lives can be brutal, with lots of fighting, wars, and death. Female wolves are in short supply, and even then they have a hard time carrying a baby full term. In the past, half breed shifters were killed on sight, but with the shortage of females, some now seek them to mate with and don’t care whether they are willing or not.

Alexandra had no idea she was a half breed until the day she and her Dad were found. With three groups after her, wolves who want to mate with her (willingly or not), wolves who want to kill her for being a half breed, and hunters who hate shifters, it’s good that Joshua Striker, sent by James’ brother to help them, showed up shortly before the first wave appeared. Alexandra soon finds herself on the run with Joshua, desperately trying to reach the safety of his pack.

This book is action-packed from the beginning and it never lets up. Joshua is walking, talking, broody sex on a stick yumminess. And Alex, although she did give me one roll my eyes moment when she did something boneheaded, was overall quite the little badass.

Not only do you get Alex and Joshua’s story, we got lots of page time for James, Alex’s dad. There is nothing sexier than an overprotective alpha werewolf trying to save his baby girl. I remember he gets a story later on down the line, and I may just go look that one up to reread. Alexandra’s Legacy had a lot going on for a fairly quick read plus even more twists at the end. Maybe too much going on because, in order to tie up the loose ends, the ending felt rushed.

This was an action-packed, sexy as hell story that I am so glad I got to reacquaint myself with.

I'm not sure what I think about this book. On one hand, hot claiming action. On the other, how is it that the pack was going to force Alex to go through a claiming ceremony (where the unmated males are allowed to fight for the right to claim her) because females are precious and must be used to pop out little wolflings yet the widowed females were given the choice to remain footloose and fancy free? While it's a relatively minor point, it bugged me.

Definitely not terrible, but I have issues with parents keeping big (BIG) things from their children and then being all perplexed when things turn out badly. "Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that I'm a werewolf and you're a half-werewolf. Oops. Now people want to kill us because you smell all delicious and aroused. My bad. I should have mentioned it when I gave you that birds and the bees speech BUT I DIDN'T. So sorry." Huh. It looks like that is still a hot-button for me.

If parents who lie by omission don't incite you to rage, you'll likely enjoy this book more than I did. Did I mention the hot claiming action? Yeah. The sex was nice.

I enjoyed the story. I thought it was was well written. I've ready a ton of werewolf/shapeshifter romances. Some of them were really bad and some were exception. This was a good story. I liked Joshua's character as a strong alpha hero...yeah yeah yeah...I know someone is thinking read one, read them all and to a point that is true. But the difference is between the alpha hero interaction with the hero. Alexandra herself was a strong alpha female. She was introduced into life as a she-wolf and about 4 seconds before she was killing a wolf. I felt so bad for her. She was hunted, wanted, overturned in a car, shot at, grazed by a bullet, concussed, blistered, and bruised but she never whined and she never complained. I understood the ending just fine. One reviewer said he was left going, "Eh?" But, as authors who write series often do, D.B. Reynolds is famous for this, they leave you a teaser or a cliffhanger at the end of one story to make you want to read the next story in the series. So, Alexandra's story ends with Isaiah having a mental soliloquy and tada........wouldn't you know that the next story in the series is "Isaiah's Haven." I thought the story was well done. There was enough story and action to balance out the constant sexual tension. Neither the action or the sexual tension overshadowed the other within the story.

When I read the preview of this book I thought it was going to be really good, so I gave it a chance.

It's about Alex are girl who lives with her father learning one day she is a half werewolf, and her father is a full blooded werewolf who kept this secret from her to protect her all her life. Now since she is coming in "heat" she needs a mate, and there are tons of single male werewolves out to find her to force her to be their mate.

The story line seemed pretty interesting at first, but then it just kind of fizzeled out after the first few chapters. I really liked Alex, she had a wonderful personality and I saw her as a very strong women. But she was the only thing I really enjoyed about this book.

Everything else just fell flat for me. I didn't like the way the relationship happened so quickly between Alex, and Joshua. I also didn't like how she all of a sudden knew things about werewolves when they hadn't been explained to her. I was majorly disappointed in this book. I did not enjoy it at all.

Alexandra (Alex) thinks she's just a normal girl until her father tells her he has something important to tell her and her world is blown to bits.

Joshua comes to Alex and her father to make sure that she safely makes it back to their pack so she can pick a mate from the eligible males there.

James (Alex's father) had been the leader of his pack many years ago but when his mate died in childbirth, he took it really bad and left. Years later he met a human woman and had Alex with her. James in a wolf shifter and had hoped that his daughter would be more human than wolf but he's known for a while that she was about to go into heat and the male wolves would be coming after her to claim her. But before he can tell his daughter what's going on, the wolves come busting into his home and Joshua shows up to keep her safe.

Alex and Joshua try making their way back to his pack's home but with rogue wolves and hunter's on their backs every step of the way, it's no easy task. I thought Alex took things really well, a little too well in my opinion. I was glad that she wasn't a hide in the corner while the men do all the work type of girl but I expected her to not just take everything in and be alright with it all like she was.

I really don't like the world that the females have in this pack society because as soon as a female goes into heat, the unmated males come to fight for her and she has no choice but to go with the winner. Uhm, what? Thankfully she ends up with the male she wanted but I don't like that males either didn't like that she was a half breed and wanted to kill her or were ready to fight each other in order to claim her and she had no choice. It's a little barbaric and with her being half human I am hoping that she brings a little new kind of influence into their society. Her father has lived around the humans long enough to pick up some new habits and I hope he brings something new to the pack now that he's back.

There was a lot of action, a lot of fighting, and I felt bad for Alex because she went through a lot, too much in my opinion. The fact that she hardly broke down after everything she went through in order to get to safety was a little unbelievable but I really liked her for it. I am hoping that their society comes out of the middle ages with their beliefs at least a little, as time goes on. But either way I liked the overall story and plan on reading more of this series.

NOPE. I CAN'T BELIEVE I WASTED MY PRECIOUS NIGHT WITH THIS ONE. I'M USUALLY NOT THAT PICKY WHEN IT COMES TO PR NOVELS, BUT WHEN YOU'VE READ SOME REALLY GOOD AND ENGAGING ONE...THIS ONE PALES IN COMPARISON BY A LOT.

WHY?

FIRST...THE PLOT WAS JUST TERRIBLY PREDICTABLE AND CLICHE.
SECOND...FOR ME THE LOVE BETWEEN THE H/h JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND IT STEMMED FROM THE MATING HEAT. WHAT'S REAL ABOUT THAT?

OUR HERO has been sent by his alpha to retrieve and protect the half breed daughter of his own brother and frankly the whole story started with a BANG, as in the kind that leaves you feeling a bit puzzled initially. The hero's what you can expect a wolf shifter to be. And that's maybe part of my problem. What's special about him that I already haven't read before?! He may be strong, hunky and all that...but he's definitely not the compelling kind of character. He's just brute and raw strength. While he's sweet and considerate with the heroine...I just couldn't buy into the whole story at all. It just fell flat for me because there wasn't any special factor driving the plot. And I also wasn't captivated with the characters.

OUR HEROINE...just seemed like she was trying to hard. I like a good balance of vulnerable yet bad ass for my heroines, but Alex just sounded bitchy most of the time. And also the fact that one moment she rejects the thought of going into mating heat and then the next minute she's all over Joshua because she finds him attractive and wants to try it with him. There wasn't anything between them to instigate a relationship except that they were thrown together in this situation. Where's the catch my breath kind of moment? Where's the angst or drama for that matter?

OVERALL meh, I couldn't bring myself to like this at all. The story while was THERE, just didn't excite me and the characters just didn't feel real for me.

I would give this book 2.5 stars. It was ok.

This is a instant-love/connection kind of book, Which, i dont mind at all, but this was over the course of like 3 days. I find that a lil ridiculous.

Felt like the main hero wanted to rape the heroine at times, because she was sleeping when he would touch her. The story had no depth. I was all about wolves chasing the couple because she was going into "heat". And not just a couple of wolves, it was multiple packs, and human hunters too. Stupid.

The hero keeps waiting to "take" the heroine because he wants her to have a choice and because the traditional challenge should be completed, but the challenge never happens. The author also skips the "wedding" ceremony which for me was a downer because it kind of portrays that the book was only about physical attraction and not love.

It was good action tho. The scenes are decently described and the heroine is not the kind of fragile thing you see on some of these books.

The hero is possessive but he controls his emotions nicely.

Not my kind of book. Sorry, I would not recommend this one.

Amazingly believable wolf fantasy with just enough naughty bits to spice up the story. The romance between Alex and the beyond gorgeous Joshua really came through and the plot held up well throughout the book.

The journey takes the pair on a roller-coaster of emotions as they fight their way back to the pack where Alex will ultimately have to seal her own fate and choose between her protector or any other male who claims her. Fortunately she's no whelp and her strength really shines through in an excellent ending.

A very well written and pacy read.

I've been a fan of N.J.'s since she wrote for Ellora's Cave. It's been a long time since I've read one of her books (my TBR pile is monstrous, don't judge). The premise of the book is that a single father is raising his daughter and it turns out her life has been fabricated.

I enjoyed the story, especially the relationship between the daughter and her father. There were a few things that dragged out longer than they should have (won't put spoilers up), but I still liked the book. If you like werewolves and shifter politics, then give this one a try. :)

Alexandra Riley lives and works with her Father James Riley, he owns and runs a garage repairing vintage cars. Alex has had a happy life her Father is a kind and protective parent, her Mother ran away when she was born. Of late Akex has been feeling odd her skin feels tight itchy she has trouble sleeping, a feeling that something is about to happen. Arriving for work one morning her father tells her they need to talk later that night. She goes to make their coffee when she returns there is a man, inside the garage, he is tall very dark and handsome in a rugged way. He announces to James that he has come for her, and that others are in the city searching for her, they need to leave before they are found.Alex is totally confused as to what this stranger is talking about. Her Father explains to her what her true heritage is, that although her Mother was a human she is half werewolf. Alex finds it hard to believe what is being said has her Father gone crazy he is a werewolf. Why would others be looking for her, he explains that she will soon be in heat, and that is why she has been feeling odd lately. Some will come for her as a mate others will want to kill her as she is a halfbreed. Without further warning they are under attack as large wolves crash into the room. After fighting off this attack, she has to leave with the stranger Joshua Striker. They are going to Wolf Creek the packs compound.
This is a first read for me by this author, this book is the first in the series. I really enjoyed it, there is plenty of action, and adventure, the sexual tension between Joshua and Alex is electric. The characters are well developed as is the plot.I shall certainly be checking out the rest of the books. I liked James Riley very much and I believe he gets his own story later in the series.

Going by the reviews (on Amazon) which seem to be 50/50, I wasn't sure what to expect. For a first in series, I generally reign in my critique because obviously there are more books to follow, allowing for the plot to be stretched out. With that said, I really enjoyed this book. The world building wasn't complex – the story takes place in a shabby neighborhood of Chicago where people try to make a living in relative peace while surrounded by occasional drug dealers and hookers. From there, the story takes us to the woods of North Carolina. Nothing outlandish there.

Alex(andra) Riley works with her father, James Riley as a mechanic. The father/daughter team run a mechanic shop of good reputation, and their clientele span all wage classes. They both have the friendship and the respect of their small community. Life as Alex knows it is comfortable, but all that is about to change. She hasn't been feeling comfortable in her own skin lately, reminding her of her loner existence and that she has always felt like a freak. Then her father tells her that he needs to talk to her about her heritage, but not before they're interrupted by a stranger.

Alex spun around and came face-to-face with a stranger. Huge was an understatement. Shaggy black hair framed a rough-hewn face, all angles and planes. His lips were thin, his eyes dark and piercing as they traced her body from head to foot. Menace seeped from every pore of his skin.

She finds out the truth about her father and that she's a half-breed. To make matters worse, the wolf in her is going into heat; her scent drawing danger closer every passing minute.

Joshua Striker is in a race against time to find James LeVeau Riley and his daughter. Ever since the rumors about the former alpha having a daughter have proven accurate, every unmated wolf has been on the hunt to find and claim her. Doing so would boost their status among their ranks and mating with her would help their dwindling numbers. A Striker has always been head of security. They are judge, jury and executioner. Above all else, their duty is to protect the pack from violence, both from the outside as well as the inside. The current alpha and James' brother has sent Joshua to protect Alex from either being kidnapped or killed by the wolves, who would see her as tainted and won't accept a "watering down" of the lines. When he finally finds her, he's unprepared to find that his target is also his mate.

His cock swelled in anticipation, pressing hard against the zipper of his jeans. A fine sheen of sweat formed on his skin, making it itch. His scalp tingled, his muscles tightened. He shook his head to clear away the haze of lust enveloping him. Now was definitely not the time for this. His job was to protect her, not to claim her.

Their attraction is instantaneous, although Joshua has an advantage of knowing what is going on inside her.

With his preternatural sense of smell, he caught a faint whiff of her scent and almost moaned. She was close to coming into heat, but not quite there yet. At the moment, it was just the faintest tantalizing perfume that made his head spin and sent lust surging through his bloodstream.

Something about the tall, dark and serious stranger draws him to her on some primal level. It both disturbs her and excites her.

She felt a yearning growing deep inside her, one she didn't understand. Heat suffused her body, pooling between her thighs. She longed to walk up to this stranger and rub her breasts against his muscular chest ...

Before she can get all the answers to her questions, they come under attack. James realizes that the only chance his daughter has is to let her go to her destiny and he trusts Joshua to get her to safety. What ensues is a cat and mouse chase through the streets of Chicago to find a way out of there and get to North Carolina and the safety of the Wolf Creek pack. Along the way they have to dodge other wolves who have teamed up with bounty hunters, whose specialize in destroying any paranormal species regardless of gender or age. The more time Joshua and Alex spend together, the closer they become. He knows she's his mate, but he won't claim her until she's had a chance to meet the other wolves and make her own choice. His honor demands it of him.

The chemistry between Joshua and Alex is smoking hot! Ms Walters did a great job making the hero and heroine not only instantly likeable, but tough as nails. When she fleshed out Alex, she could have made her a weak female who is completely overwhelmed by the newest developments in her life. While Alex tries to cope with what she will become, she won't take crap from anyone. Her early training with her father – how to fight and how to shoot makes her a petite warrior female – a character I always love as the counterpart to the overprotective alpha male. Instead of trying to bend her to his will, Joshua loves her fighting spirit and her smart mouth. He says often enough that no one has ever made him laugh or smile, nor has anyone ever dared to speak to him, a Striker, the way she does. The author also didn't shy away from having Alex see her fair share of fights, blood, injuries and death – all things that strike a chord with the (otherwise) non-confrontational and gentle heroine.

A majority of reviewers seemed find this book had to much sex and not enough plot/action. I disagree. I didn't get the feeling that the sex was injected just for heck of it. The wolf in Alex is in heat, and if you've ever had a cat in heat, then I'm sure you've seen her act ... like a cat in heat. Mine couldn't get enough of the feather duster. My point is, Alex would get sudden urges and Joshua met them the best way he knew how without "compromising" her virtue. I didn't find anything wrong with that. Then again we're talking about Joshua here, and he was very talented.

If you're looking for a paranormal romance with lots of steam, strong characters, some action and suspense then this is a good book to keep you occupied.

Three and a half
I've been reading this authors recent paranormal work and having enjoyed it thought I would go back and try something from her back catalogue. This is the first in a series about Werewolves although Vampires also get a brief mention. Alex had no idea that her father is a Werewolf and had previously been a Pack Alpha. He's raised her as human because he wasn't sure if she would ever show her true nature but her life is about to get complicated as her temperature rises and her scent changes !
Joshua has been sent to bring the Werewolf female back safely to his Pack so that she can be claimed by a deserving male. He hadn't expected to want her as much as he does but he has honour and will do anything to protect her. With rival Wolves hunting for her and more worryingly Bounty Hunters somehow on their trail the race to get her from Chicago to North Carolina becomes one fraught with danger !
Perhaps more erotic than I expected but it still felt like a romance. Alex is a fighter and she is woefully underestimated. Joshua whilst uber macho is actually quite sweet towards the female he is longing to claim. The twist I enjoyed was her father James coming back to the Pack he once ruled and its left in a way that means I'm curious to read more.

Another quick, digestible read. Instant attraction trope and I kind of hated the world building and the MC after awhile. A lot of talk of the females going into "heat" and the MC fights it at the beginning and then is like... "la dee da, he's so hot, who cares" and there's just so much wrong here that it couldn't be saved. At one point, the male MC spanks the female MC (which felt WILDLY out of character for the man) and this female who has been set up to be this fiesty woman just takes it. Ugh. Yuck.
