Black: There are No Rules in Poetry: A Collection

Rate this book
There are No Rules in Poetry, tells the story of a young mixed race woman as she navigates the streets of East London. This coming of age story uses the power of poetry to address issues such as race, abuse and relationships, while also touching on the feelings which many experienced during the lockdown period of 2020. The poems are broken down into three chapters, each reflecting a different stage of the main character's life. The poems are both touching and relatable, offering a true insight to what it is like growing up in a world where race is such a huge factor in survival.

A honest and raw reading experience, the writing was skilled and thought provoking. The structure is done masterfully, punctuating the poets thoughts and emotions. A collection of work I will continue to return to. Can’t recommend highly enough.
