Preternaturals #2

Save My Soul

Rate this book
...All he's asking for is her soul.

That house. You know the one. It's the one that seems alive from the road with windows like eyes that see inside you, the one that seems to always be for sale, the one Anna Worthington has wanted to live in since childhood. Ghost stories be damned.

But the dark being that haunts this house, is something far more sinister than a ghost. Luc is an ancient incubus, trapped by a fifty-year-old curse, and Anna is a temptation too sweet for any demon, let alone a practically starved and crazy one. Will she exorcise her house and live happily ever after with her cats, or will she fall prey to a dark lover who doesn't just want her body, but her soul as well?

If the demon has his way, dying will be her best case scenario.

Awesome read..

Wow! I loved this book. Oh, it didn’t have to be 300 pages but at least it didn’t become too boring, I only skimmed a few pages. It was about an incubus living in the house Anna bought, a house she’d wanted to live in as a child. At first Anna thought it was the ghost of Beatrice, the woman who’d died there fifty years ago. But it was Luc. And, oh man was he gorgeous and sexy. This is my very first book of an incubus and I so enjoyed it. Luc was a demon incubus that started feeling guilty over all the women he’d drained and killed when he fed from them. Then, when Anna moved into the house and found out who and what Luc was she went from being scared to death of him and wanting him but refusing to go to bed with him.

I gotta tell ya’, my favorite part of the whole book was when Anna went out to find Luc someone to feed on, as long as he promised he wouldn’t kill them. And she brought him his own Harem of Hookers: Maria, Karen, Susan, Olivia and Renee. And, trust me when I tell you those girls couldn’t have been happier. And they all became good friends and had the best sex ever. Ordinarily I don’t like OW but with him being an incubus there really had to be. But all the while he really only wanted Anna. But it was feed or die.

I liked the other players, too: Tam, Bitsy and Mimi. Didn’t like Cain, though. He really was evil.

There was some other excitement, too. Like when the five pimps showed up to take their girls back. That didn’t turn out well for the pimps.

And when Cain set the house on fire, rather hypnotized Anna into it. A big ‘ol house filled with antiques burned to the ground. Luc was very protective of those antiques, too.

Anyway, Luc and Anna did have a HEA but the end was certainly amazing.

They also had some explicit sex and Anna masturbated a couple of times. And the F-bomb was used 29 times.

As to the narration: Chet Williamson did a very good job, considering this was narrated in 2012. His women’s voices could have been a little better but they weren’t so bad as to ruin the book. I would definitely listen to him again.

A haunting read you will devour!

After many long years and the death of her father, Anna Worthington has returned to her hometown down South to set her father's affairs in order. After seeing her dream home up for sale, Anna decides to purchase it despite all the rumors of it being haunted. Anna happily moves into her new home and soon starts to realize the town's rumors might not be rumors after all. Her dream house comes with it's own sexy incubus named Luc that has been trapped in the house for over fifty years by an awful curse. Anna is instantly attracted to the smart mouthed Luc but is determined to find a way to get him out of her house and out of her life, in her attempts to "exorcise" the incubus she'll learn it's no mere coincidence she's bought this house. Anna holds the key in breaking Luc's curse but the price for his freedom is something she's not willing to pay.

The beginning of this book was such a surprise! I don't scare easily but I must admit I wanted to sleep with the nightlight on after reading the first few chapters of this book, luckily it got less creepy the more I read and I was able to sleep with the lights out (haha). That being said, I found this to be an intriguing read. I want to say this is my first paranormal romance with an incubus and I found the concept very original. The author's writing style of mixing humor and mystery pulls you in and keeps your interest until the final page.

Anna and Luc are fun and lovable characters. The sexual tension between these two is first class! The slow build of their relationship gives you a better look inside the characters and their emotions. I loved that Anna isn't a "loner" heroine and has a best friend that sticks by her in good times and bad. The secondary characters are just as entertaining and add a little spice to the plot. There are plenty of twists and turns that keep you engaged and reveal a climactic ending!

Save My Soul is a heartwarming love story with memorable characters that is brilliantly written. I love a book with an unpredictable ending and this was just that. It's a top notch paranormal romance with the best of elements: mystery, steamy romance and great humor! A must-read in my book, trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Although second in the series, Save My Soul can be read as a stand-alone without a problem.

Anna's always been drawn to the house on Cranberry Lane, despite its history. A woman died there, you know. When her life circles back to the place she was born, Anna can't ignore the For Sale sign, especially now that she has the financial means to be its owner.

Right away, unexpected things start happening. Whoever--whatever is in the house is trying to get her attention.

But this is not The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. The "whoever" turns out to be Luc, an incubus, a demon who feeds on sexual energies. He's been trapped by a witch, the previous owner of the house on Cranberry Lane. She said she loved him. They could have been together forever. If only she would have given him her soul.

Now Luc is focused on Anna, and she finds herself as inexorably drawn to the demon as she was to the house. And then more. He says all it would take for happily ever after is her soul. He takes her heart, he's campaigning for her body, can she allow herself to be taken over completely by this...man?

This all sounds like a pretty dramatic story, and that's there. But the true delight comes in the snarky wit of the characters and the sometimes madcap humor with which Winters delivers the tale. Save My Soul brings its otherworldly elements to shimmering life in a way that will delight any fan of the paranormal as Anna turns to gypsies, ghost hunters, and the Holy Catholic Church in her attempts to try to evict the incubus from her home. Before it's too late.

This book was a big NOPE for me. I knew going into the book that there would be cheating. Kind of. I mean the H is an Incubus, so it was expected. But I just COULD NOT get past a part in the book (40% mark on my kindle). And it completely ruined the whole story for me. It was one of my 'not gonna come back from that shit' buttons, and I wish I had known this was going to happen so I could have skipped this one all together.

****SPOILER**** - Please don't read any further if you want to avoid spoilers.

At the 40% mark we find out the H had sex with (to feed off of) a teenage girl who lives in the house he's stuck in. He's supposed to be a 500 year old noble incubus. The author went so far as to explain that the girl was sexually abused by her own father. This is supposed to be okay by a flippant remark about her being 'of legal age, so it's okay'... Also, the Incubus protected her by not letting her dad into her room at night time anymore... But was himself having sex with AN ABUSED TEENAGE GIRL TO FEED HIMSELF!?! How the fuck is this okay? It's not. It is disgusting. It completely killed this book for me. Not sure I even wanna attempt the rest of the series.

Okay I really hate to not give this five stars, because I'm a Zoe Winters fangirl. She's probably my favorite "indie" author at the moment and it kills me that I can't rave about it..

What worked for me:
* I loved the mythology (and theology) about the different dimensions
* I adore ZW's writing style, with her quirky humor and perfect pacing.
* The twist at the end was AWESOME! Loved loved loved it!

What didn't work for me:
* The hero is an incubus. In order not to kill his victims, he has to have sex with a different woman every night. If he has sex with the same woman more than one night in a row, he can seriously harm her -- and honestly probably kill her. So, my absolute BIGGEST pet peeve about this story is that the hero is quite literally having sex with other women the ENTIRE time that he's with the heroine. The entire time. He even showers after banging them and comes up to sleep next to the heroine on nights that they can't have sex together. This literally turned my stomach. I get that she was "in love with him", but just. No. I literally almost threw the book at the wall (which would've been tragic, as I was reading the kindle version on my iPod lol) when he screwed one girl, finished up, and immediately came up stairs to mess around with the heroine. Blech.

*The "harem" was WAY too accepting of the fact he was a demon. So one of them was a gypsy who knew what an incubus was and was cool with it -- great, what about the other girls? They were WAY too relaxed and blase about the whole thing to be in any way realistic. Plus, how on earth did the heroine just happen to find several hookers who not only would agree to come and live with her in that situation, but that she could actually trust not to steal all her shizz and run off the first time she turned her back?! I just wasn't buying it.

So, my final score? I'm sorry Zoe -- 3 1/2 out of 5. I just couldn't get past my own squickiness at him having sex with all those other women, and her being kind of okay with it (even if she WAS jealous), and having him actually convince her that it was "okay" because it was "just sex". JNMK.

Why hadn't I read this book and author before? Save My Soul was EVERYTHING I love about reading romance. It had a great storyline that kept me interested and buried deep within the story. It had relatable characters who you just wanted it all to work out for. Of course, it had a sexy as heck hero who seriously made me swoon a few times and and the sexual tension? OMGSH! I was in heaven. I loved the bantering back and forth between Anna and Luc, for me it's what pushed the story over the top and made it a book I raved about on Twitter. I loved the intensity and heat between them. Luc wanted her.... Anna wanted him.... would she give him her soul? Should she give him her soul? The fact that Luc was an incubus was deliciously frustrating because the moment Luc turned on the charm I wanted Anna to give herself over to him, but she showed amazing control, thinking it through, showing me she had spine and enough common sense to look at the fine print. I loved how the author drew it out between them, giving just enough to elicit a giddy sigh and leave you begging for more.

I will say, I NEVER saw the end coming. EVER! I loved the whole reading experience but the ending had me flying out my seat shouting "NO FREAKING WAY!" I loved being surprised in a book, of being delivered a story where the author has me so wrapped up looking over there, that I don't see the sneaky things she's doing in the other corner. It has me excited to go back and read the first book and any future book she releases in this series.

This is DEFINITELY a book to go out a grab a copy of. Zoe Winters delivers one heck of a paranormal romance, one that still has me buzzing as I sit here and type out this review. You'll fall hopelessly in love with Luc and will be frantically trying to find a way to shove your soul into the book for him. And here's something to tempt you (because I know it tempts me) but Zoe has another swoonworthy character that was the right kind of villian - Cain *shivers* He was magnificent! Keep your eye out for her next release. Happy reading!

A fun, sexually charged novel chuck full of captivating supernatural creatures!

After her father passes away, Anna Worthington moves into the house that she has been drawn to since a child. Claimed to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who died in the house fifty years ago, Anna doesn’t believe in the supernatural until the supposed ghost takes form in a dark and sexy incubus named Luc.
Cursed by a witch and trapped in the house Luc must feed off the residents or have his meals brought to him by the incubus leader, Cain, but being surrounded by humans has brought the humanity out in him. Feeling more human then demon now, Luc falls hard for the spunky Anna but can he convince her that their love is worth more then her soul and the house that she has dreamed of since childhood?

Save my Soul is the second novel in Zoe Winter’s Preternatural series and my first read from this author. It was a great stand-alone and I did not feel that I was missing anything in jumping right into the second installment in this series.

Packed with mass amounts of sexual tension and danger Save my Soul was captivating with a plot that continuously flowed quickly and smoothly. Each character was endearing and well devloped, along with the world built around them. Anna was a feisty, smart and independent protagonist who sticks to her morals and sense of right and wrong throughout the story. Luc is possessive and protective, a great alpha male to fall for despite being a soul-sucking incubus. He tugged at your heart and had me rooting for him throughout the story. The story line was fresh and unique, full of action, humor, suspense and intrigue, and numerous supernatural characters that kept it interesting.

A great read and I look forward to reading more from this fabulous author!

There were a lot of things I liked about this book, starting with the sassy Anna and the sexy incubus trapped in her house right on down to the hookers who were given a chance to turn their lives around. I mean, any time an author can turn a potentially icky situation with a sex lovin' demon and a houseful of hookers into something that makes sense and leaves you hoping everyone will find a way to have a happy ending... well, that's some good writing.

Anna is a woman tempted beyond all belief by a demon who is sex incarnate. And yet she finds a way to resist him. Luc's need to feed on multiple women so he doesn't drain his partner to death makes for a sticky situation in Anna's head. She's unwilling to share and he's unwilling to risk her by using her and her alone. I think it's fabulous that Zoe Winters made me sympathetic to Luc and his many women. Under normal circumstances I'd be growling in frustration at a guy who couldn't be faithful. (and now I need to interject that this doesn't include my wickedly naughty menage books, because I'm always down with multiple partners in those!) Here? I get it.

Strong writing, memorable characters and a twist that I didn't see coming made this a book I'm more than willing to read multiple times.

Witches and Gypsies and Demons, oh my!

Nice combo, right? I certainly thought so. Take a seductively hot incubus, add a stubborn heroine, who refuses to give in to his seduction attempts, equals a solidly entertaining story. Luc, our seductively hot incubus, is trapped inside a house by a spell that was cast by a former witch-lover in attempts to make him a one woman man. Enter the house's current owner and heroine, Anna. If I can describe one word to describe Anna it would be stubborn. After a few lame attempts to try to scare Anna out of the house, she absolutely refuses to leave. There has to be a way to get Luc out of her house. One way is to burn the house. The second option is to give her soul to Luc. Neither is an option Anna wants to indulge in. She needs to find a solution fast because she doesn't know how long can she resist her attraction to Luc and vise versa.

The story itself was extremely entertaining. Anna provided a lot of humor to the story with her stubbornness. After a while, I did find myself wanting to slap some sense into her. I mean, what's the harm in having at least one taste, right? Anyhow, I digress. The story does have a minor twist at the end, that I never saw coming. Was it a good twist or a bad twist? The jury is still out, hence, the 4 star rating :)

Loved it! The Incubi are finally taking their place as the romantic hero of the paranormal world.
Anna Worthington has bought a haunted house. Turns out her ghost is actually a demon: specifically an incubus named Luc. He was trapped in the house by a previous owner/lover. The only way he can be freed is if Anna gives him her soul or burns her house to the ground. She doesn't want to do either. As their battle of wills heats up, Luc protects her from others of his kind, a would be rapist, and a priest determined to save her soul; falling in love with her along the way. Throw in a best friend who is a self proclaimed witch, a coven of witches, a "harem" of prostitutes, some gypsies, and a couple of nosy neighbors, and you have a book that is fairly fast paced and will hold your interest until the end. It has a nice twist at the end that I should have suspected, but totally did not see coming. I have not read anything previously by this author, but with one book Zoe Winters has made it to my favorite authors list. I have already purchased the first book in this series, and fully intend to buy the rest. If you enjoy paranormal romance then you can't go wrong with Zoe Winters' Preternatural Series.

My Thoughts

This is my first book I have read from Zoe and I will now be going out and getting more. This book was totally awesome.

It got me wrapped in the story within the first chapter. At first I was thinking oh crap this is going to be freaky but I was okay.(in case you were worried) Once you get into this book you will not be able to put it down. As we go through it to we meet some really enjoyable characters. Like the posse of hookers. Even they were just really fun and you really wanted to see them around.

The way Anna and Luc's relationship developed was brilliant. It wasn't head over heals in love or jumping into bed real fast. You really could see them growing on each other and understood when they pulled away.

Oh and the ending I so did not see that coming. I was pretty damn surprised. I honestly would never ever have guessed that. Which to me is GREAT! This whole book weaved together perfectly. Even little tid bits you hear get wrapped up!

Great Book, can not wait to read more from Zoe.

This book was okay. I didn't really like the harem of girls. I understand he was incubus and needed to feed, but I guess I'm to much of a selfish jealous person to believe that Anna would be okay with that.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

Save My Soul is the second book in this series, but it is really the fourth story. Book one, Blood Lust, is really three novellas in one book. This book doesn’t tie in with book one nearly as tight as the three novellas tie together. This book can be read as a stand alone. Really the location and one side character are really the only crossover. Book one does tie in with book three and four. It is a great read, so I would try it if you get a chance, but could also be done out of order with this one.

This book starts off with Anna moving back to the small town in Georgia that she grew up in after her father dies and she inherits all his money, which is lots. Before that, she was working in Atlanta because he had cut her off from his money. When she comes back, she finds a house that she always loved as a child is on the market. She decides to buy it even though, it is said to be haunted. It doesn’t take long for her to learn exactly how haunted the house actually is.

Luc is a demon, an incubus to be exact. He has been trapped in this house for about fifty years when a witch that he fell in love with cursed him. As an incubus, he is not able to have sex with the same women too many times in a row, or he will kill them by feeding too much. Luc’s witch was very jealous of him sleeping with other women (let’s face, I would be too), so she traps him in the house where he is not able to leave. The problem with that, is that he eventually gets so “hungry” that he drains her to death. Now he is trapped in the house without a way to escape. His brother, Cain (yes, that Cain), brings women to the house each night, so that Luc has something to feed from.
Luc doesn’t show himself to Anna for a long time. He “haunts” the house trying to scare her away, to no avail. She hears moaning and thinks is the ghost, when it is really Luc with the girls his brother has been delivering to him. When Anna comes home from a date, that she despised, and said date is overly forceful with her, Luc comes to her rescue and finally shows himself to her. He explains his issue. Cain makes an appearance and tries to force the two together by refusing to bring more food for Luc. Anna’s solution, she gets him a “harem” of prostitutes. This causes tons of jealousy, and why wouldn’t it, but Anna doesn’t know what else to do. At this point, she has yet to sleep with Luc.

There are some humorous sections, but not the level of snark that I’m used to from the likes of Molly Harper or Darynda Jones. It is a much more subtle and quirky humor, but still good and adds to the story. The story is passionate and heartbreaking to read at times. You feel sorry for both main characters as they try to figure out this almost impossible situation they are in.

I enjoyed the narration. I think Chet Williamson did a great job. I enjoyed not only the male, but also the female characters. I had already read this book before listening and I feel his rendition, really added to the storytelling. I’m hoping that the author will get some more of this series done in audio with the same narrator. Currently, just book one and two are recorded, both with this narrator.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book! From the first paragraph I was impressed with the writing style. The narration was clever, clear, and flowed very well. On top of that, Luc and Anna were so great together. I was looking for an incubus and human romance where there was actual fluff and a real romance (I love fluff), and I always love complex, supernatural plots that intertwine with the romance story. I loved Luc's gentler side and his obsession with antiques was really funny. I loved when he was playing ghost around the house before introducing himself to Anna.

Anna was hilarious and the two of them together just worked. Both of them felt like real people who were meant to be together. I did see the ending coming because I'm just good at guessing, but I still LOVED it. I only wish they had a second full book together. (PS, Beatrice was totally banana ballz.)

The harem was unexpected and hilarious. I expected to be disgusted by that, but it was written in a way where you could understand he wasn't cheating on Anna, he had to do it so he didn't kill her on accident because of what he is. His heart totally belonged to her and I adore the whole eternal, soulmate love story that is sexy, angsty, and fluffy.

Cain was a total ass and I loathed him, but we were supposed to so he was nicely written, too. Tam was awesome and I felt bad that Anna never wanted to let her do her witch thing. I definitely will read book four to find out what happens with all of them.

If you’re looking for a sexy supernatural romance with challenges, passion and deep characters this is definitely a book for you. I don’t want to spoil any details but let me leave you with this image. There’s an entire alternate universe Zoe Winters brings to life in this book and within it men can become incubi and women can choose death and come back as a second chance. There are no limits to the depth of the love and understanding these characters portray. Zoe Winters creates new perspectives and made me ask myself this question: would I give up heaven for eternal love in hell? Read this book and you’ll know exactly what I mean.

I just love Luc! Such a pathetic demon as he calls himself, he doesn’t want to kill or hurt anyone, but that doesn’t mean he won’t if someone he loves is threatened. Anna, well I wanted to slap her most of the book, but that’s pretty normal for me with the females of books. In the end I liked her and wow what a twist, I was not quite expecting that. Love the character developments and world this series is building. Spicy but not super spicy, about a 3 on the steamy level.

I wasn't a huge fan of this book. If you've read the short stories from "Blood Lust", you more or less know what you're getting in terms of pacing, writing style, and characters. "Save My Soul" is a ghostier, full length variation.

Reviewed at AsianCocoa's Secret Garden

I decided to read Save My Soul after seeing the book trailer on one of my favorite author’s (Claudia D. Christian) website. I figured if she liked it and was recommending this book then I might like it too.

In Save My Soul, I received my first introduction to the incubus demon. This was quite an intriguing creature for me since I’m all about the smut. The smuttier the better and reading about a demon that survives off the sexual energy of females seemed really hot!

Anna Worthington has just returned to her childhood town of Golatha Falls, Georgia to settle some affairs from her late father’s estate. Not wanting to stay in town for longer than she needs to, Anna starts to head out but decides to take a detour down Cranberry Lane to look at a house that she has been in love with since childhood. The house is for sale and while taking a tour of the house, Anna feels compelled to buy it.

Soon after moving in Anna starts to hear things go bump in the night. It starts out with objects getting moved around, her television being turned on automatically and seemingly stuck on the Food Network channel. She had heard the house was haunted by a ghost named Beatrice and just assumes that is who is haunting her. But then one night during an attempted date rape, Luc appears out of nowhere to defend her against her assailant. To her horror she realizes that she is not being haunted by a harmless old lady but a scary demon.

Luc is an incubus demon who has been trapped in the house ever since a witch named Beatrice cursed him 50 years ago. He and Beatrice had been lovers but Beatrice could not accept Luc’s need to feed from other females. Their love affair ends tragically in death leaving Luc to haunt the various families that live in the Cranberry Lane house or live alone when the house is empty.

Luc falls in love with Anna. He bonds her to him to keep her safe from other incubi and won’t allow her to leave him for extended periods of time. He flirts with Anna and taunts her shamelessly but she still will not give in to his numerous attempts at seduction. Anna knows that if she doesn’t figure out how to break the curse that she will end up becoming another meal for Luc.

To buy herself some time, Anna brings back a harem of prostitutes for Luc to feed from. For real? Yes. That move was laugh out loud funny to me. ‘Here honey, here’s some other kitty cat for you to play with. Now leave me the hell alone.’ Well played, Anna! I almost felt sorry for Luc. He wasn’t even a little excited at the prospect of having five live-in lovers. All he wanted was Anna.

“You know it could be so good. You have to feel this thing between us. Those other girls, they’re just food. It doesn’t mean anything. You’re the one I want.”

She rolled her eyes and chucked a pillow at him. “Yes, the male argument from time immemorial. They don’t mean anything. It’s just sex. Bullshit. I told you I cannot and will not share.” ~ Luc & Anna

Save My Soul had a lot going on in it. There were several quirky characters that added depth to the story and Zoe Winters did a great job with the dialogue in this book. The snarky banter between all the characters was humorous and I loved the interactions between Luc and Anna. I was rooting for them throughout the book as I really did like Luc a lot. A whole host of supernatural characters tries to help Anna break Beatrice’s curse. But in this twisted ending, Anna is the only one who can save Luc.

I’m more than a little stunned. Not because I didn’t expect the book to be so good. Hell, I’ve read Kept, Claimed, and Mated. I know Zoe Winters has some mad story-telling skills. Having mad story-telling skills, however, isn’t the same as having the skills to make me believe a romance is possible between an Incubus and a human. This is why you should NEVER. EVER. tell a writer what they can and cannot do because they will do it out of spite and it will blow your mind every time.

In the hands of a capable writer, anything is possible. Zoe’s proving to be much more than a capable writer.

I have only one criticism, and you know? I’m not even really sure it counts as one. I think Zoe’s style has matured a lot since Kept, and it shows because for most of the story, this book didn’t feel like it was even written for the same universe as the Book 1. Except, it’s not supposed to. Totally different setting. And we expect to have other places feel different right? The world of the Preternaturals is expanding, branching out. I can appreciate that, especially when we found out about-but no, that’s a spoiler.

I did see the HUGE TWISTY PLOT TWIST, that I also absolutely WON’T be sharing with any of you, coming but I did so with a gleeful chuckle and lots of evil palm rubbing. It made the whole story come full-circle in a spectacular way, in my humble opinion. So it makes me feel smart when I could say ahead of time “Oooooh! I see what you’re doing here.”

There were other things that I didn’t see coming though. Things that I D’ohed for not even thinking about.

I’m going to warn you though. After reading this book, you’re going to wish you had a significant other around. Sufficed to say, Save my Soul reeks of sexual tension, and what a delicious reek it is.Luc definitely has a spot on my Favorite Heroes list. One that I have to get around to re-writing one of these days. Anna too (Heroines, obviously). Ms. Winter’s writes brilliant snark. Her heroines might get tossed around, betrayed, and have their lives do a complete 360 but they always have a sense of humor about it. Probably to keep from going bat-snit insane like the rest of us probably would if we were faced with the same events. Maybe.

Something I wanted to mention also was how much I loved how Winters wrote the friendship between Anna and Tam, one of the supporting cast. It was refreshing for once to read about a female friendship that didn’t involve lots of backstabbing and BS similar in office politics. They weren’t friends just because girls aren’t supposed to be mean so anyone you have even the vaguest familiarity with counts as a ‘friend’. They gave a damn about one another, and didn’t secretly wish to be anywhere but in the others presence. They enjoyed one another’s company. Like the way it should be. Their banter made me chuckle, more often than not because it reminded me of the way I am with my friends, and thank you Zoe for portraying what a healthy female friendship is like.

I’m hoping Tam might show up again, since there seems to be a running trend for Zoe to give supporting characters their own books. But either way? I don’t think I’ll be disappointed by a Zoe Winters read.

I definitely first read this book in high school, and after re-reading it as a 24 year old, idk who gave me permission to buy books on iBooks or whatever it was called.

Still, I love this story so much and the characters are so well written. The love and humor is there and it’s great, the twist is amazing. I will never stop loving this story.

I liked this book more than I thought I would. Truth be told, in the beginning I wasn't really feeling it. It didn't seem like my cup of tea and it almost came off as chick lit. I did start liking it after she bought the house and the ghost started creeping her out. Well, creeping me out. She seemed to have no problem getting snarky with the ghost. I thought those parts were hilarious.

I enjoyed the banter between the two! I think the author does an excellent job writing the banter. I don't think I'd be able to keep up in a battle with her. My banter takes time. It must simmer on low until perfect. As for the book, there were plenty of laugh out loud moments.

Did anyone read the book dedication? Back in junior high I was told to always read the book dedication. I can't remember why. Anywho, this dedication goes up there as one of my most favorite ones ever!

And as much as I did enjoy the story, I just don't care for stories with casual whoopie. Yes, I am well aware that that is something that happens in a story about Incibii, but still. I just don't see how anyone could be comfortable with a situation like that. And she said it herself, it has only been a week. A week! And he's been with how many people? And they live in your house? And you're ok with that? What? What? Huh? Not my cup of tea at all. I do understand that he is an Incubus. In the book, he has to do it all the time or he will kill. And it can't be with the same girl two nights in a row. So they all basically shared him. Umm, doesn't anyone care about diseases? Or, here's one - self respect? Eww.

While I did like Harem girls, I didn't like the idea of them. That was just a little too weird for me. And maybe, just maybe, the streets are a little crazier than we think because those girls took his whole Incubus thing in stride.

We are never really told what feeding is like. I assume it's like a vampire. It's all really implied but never told.

While I did enjoy the book, I did not like the ending. I think that this is one of those endings that people will either love or hate. Put me in the latter category. I was just not impressed and didn't care for it.

Also, I think my dislike of the end came because we are never really told what taking ones soul entails. I assumed it meant he was in control of it. Not that she had to Also, I have this recently discovered dislike for They never work!

And I wasn't really feeling the other twist at the end. I didn't see the connection nor did I see the point. Why the name change?

Either way, if the synopsis sounds like something you'd like, and you like humor (who doesn't?), you should definitely pick this one up. Also, the author is extremely nice! Don't be put off by my review, read it and let me know what you think! It could be just me that was bothered by things. Heh!

The Preternaturals series is awesome. I’ve not been reading them in order, having read three and four before reading this one, which is book two – and I’ve not been lost at all. So it is entirely possible to pick these up as you go. Sure, there are tidbits of information throughout the books. Like in book four, Anna and Luc are in it, and Cain touches on their situation, but it in no way ruined the fun of this book.

Anna has come back to town to tidy up her deceased father’s affairs, and then she getting the hell out. That is, until she sees the house she’s loved since she was a child is up for sale. One look inside with the real estate agent and she’s decided it’s going to be hers. And almost immediately upon moving in strange things begin to happen and she realizes she has a ghost. And not only that, but a ghost who can move things, and is audacious enough to write in the bathroom mirror fog as she stands there looking at it.

But it isn’t too long before she realizes that her ghost isn’t a ghost at all – but an incubus. And a sexy as hell one, too. Ladies, meet Luc. Luc is tall, dark, handsome, and powerful. Just not so powerful that he can actually leave the house. Seems a witch from the past has cursed him to live there for all of eternity. Cain has been bringing him women to feed from so that he doesn’t die. What a good brother he is (grins). Well Anna decides she is NOT leaving her house that she loves, so she does something crazy – she brings in a harem for Luc; and that’s even as she is developing feelings for him, herself.

This was a crazy story! There are moments that are a bit spooky, and definitely some moments that are very heated and lusty. I loved Luc, of course. How could you not? You realize through a creative flashback process that he is not just an evil demon. And Anna is just as feisty as can be. She’s smart and creative, and she’s got the snark happening too. And the two of them together are really terrific.

Personally, I really enjoy books where I feel there could have been difficulty in writing them. And this is one. Not so much the subject matter, I think that was probably fun. But this one is the location. Luc is stuck in the house. He can’t leave. So all of the interactions between Anna are Luc are confined to one reasonably small space. It takes some creativity to keep it fresh and alive.

This book has a terrific cast of characters. Cain is in it, whom I’ve loved for several Preternaturals books now. But so is Tam. The harem is even enjoyable and grow on me. Mimi and Bitsy are about as colorful as can be. The story is just action packed with tons of events to keep you on your toes. Definitely add this book to your TBR, ladies.

Interest: Synopsis

Title Thoughts: It really fits.

Cover Thoughts: I really like the covers and the placement of his hand because it's possessive and holding her close.

WARNINGS: Cuss words here and there and lots of talk of sex along with a minor sex scene or two.

First, let me just say that there is just something I like about the whole idea of a sex demon. Let's add that into the pot with Luc, Anna, Cain, witches and more and we have a really good book. Add that with Zoe Winters and we have an even better book. Needless to say, I really liked this book and I most definitely plan on reading more by Winters.

I loved Anna's character. She has the odd sense of humor that had me laughing at some of the more serious moments in the book. I liked Luc and how he didn't try to change who he was entirely. He was who he was and he tried his best to work with that. He didn't completely resent who he was. He even embraced it sometimes. I loved that about him. He didn't whine about being something he didn't want to be because of a woman. (Although, I think he was perfectly fine being who he was.)

The ending really surprised me. I would have been just as surprised if a hand jumped out of the book and slapped me. Never saw it coming and I congratulate Winters for her sneakiness. This is another one of those books that gave me a little high from reading it.

Addict's Last Words: Save My Soul is a book with an interesting take on a different kind of demon that I undeniably enjoyed.

To Buy or To Borrow: This is a buy for me because like I said above, there is just something I like about this kind of demon.

Save My Soul is my first read from author Zoe Winters but it will not be my last.
From the first I was intrigued with Anna's story if a bit confused... When the light dawned that there was more than just a story about an old house being possessed by a restless and sometimes destructive spirit I was totally hooked and kept reading until every page was devoured!

Not only is there plenty of snarky humor when Anna tries to "exorcise" the spirit but there is also a very well built up romantic relationship between Anna and Luc... While there is a lot of tension between Anna and Luc sexually there is not a lot of actual sex , which for me was great because while tension adds to the plot some of the time too much sexual interaction being the main focus really detracts from it... There is a lot going on in the story that will keep any reader glued to the pages, the best part is that you never see the twist in the ending coming at you until it happens...

For me that makes a great plot, one that keeps you so busy turning pages that while everything is happening it just flows smoothly and you enjoy the action so much there is no stopping until the story finishes...

Like everyone else who has read this book I heartily recommend it to anyone who enjoys a hot succubus , humor, paranormal suspense, romance and the consequences of witches curses as well as a little fantasy in their reading diet!

I must disclose that this was a review copy received as part of the author's June 7th through July 1st blog tour hosted by The Bookish Snob Promotions with my e-copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. There was no other compensation for reading this book from the author, the tour host or publisher other than my pleasure of reading the book .

This is the second book in Zoe Winters’s Preternaturals series. I did not read book 1, but I will doing so soon. You can pick up Save My Soul and not be lost at all, it seems this story is independent of the others. If there were any crossovers, I didn’t notice and they did not distract from the plot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The idea of Luc being an incubus and trapped in the house was so new and different. I really enjoyed it! The storyline sucked me right in and I had to force myself to go to bed and not stay up until all hours of the morning just to finish the book-- I did stay up the next night to finish it, though. :)

Anna is an awesome character! She was strong, snarky, independent - everything I would love to be! She resists the temptations of Luc, even when she knows he wants only her. She sticks to her principles, and even though I was yelling at her just to sleep with him already, it really was admirable. All the characters are well-developed and I found myself getting drawn into their lives and caring about what happened to them. The plot moved quickly, there was action, humor, the discovery of alternate dimensions, magic, and nosy, old, small-town bitties. (Or is it biddies? Hmmm).

At the beginning of the book, I thought the house was simply haunted, and Ms. Winters’s descriptions left me looking over my shoulder nervously. Yes, I got a little creeped out - her ghostly descriptions were so vivid. The rest of the book was well written also. I loved the descriptions of the small-town because I live in one, and I could totally relate. When the old biddies encounter Anna and the prostitutes--hilarious!! (You’ll just have to read to find out).

The twist at the end was a little cheesy for me, but it worked. I don’t know who the next book will feature, but I would love to learn more about Cain - I mean he can’t be ALL bad, right? Haha

Overall, I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars- I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I probably won’t ever re-read it. There was some hot sex that I liked, but nothing too graphic or detailed - heat level probably a 3 out of 5.

Save My Soul is the story of Anna, a woman who returns to her hometown for her father’s funeral and rediscovers her obsession with an old house. Only after she’s bought it and moved in does anyone clue her in that she’s got a supernatural roommate, Luc, (short for Lucien) an incubus with gorgeous looks and a killer appetite for sex. Luc has been trapped in the house for a long time, and since Anna isn’t interested in leaving, the demon wants her to help him escape by torching the house. And since Anna has been obsessed with the house since childhood, that’s not happening.

Things become more complicated with the arrival of another incubus, Cain. Hoping to protect Anna from Cain, Luc performs blood magic on Anna that has far reaching consequences for both demon and human. More drama is added with the arrival of a witchy best friend and a harem of hookers. And that’s before the book kicks you in the gut with its metaphysical premise about Earth being in one of many temporal dimensions.

There’s so much to like in this story. The characters are challenging and yet it’s still possible to relate to most everyone in the story. The pacing is fast, and the plot unfolds well without making any revelation feel jarring, even the surprise twists. The story builds to a tense conclusion, and then closes with a semisweet epilogue. Even the bit characters offered some nice character development in their tiny subplots, so this is a book that gives a lot for the short size.

Since I enjoyed the book so much, I’m giving Save My Soul 4.5 stars and would recommend it to fans of fantasy, dark fantasy, romance, and urban fantasy. I’m going back to read Claimed and Mated, and I can’t wait for book 3 of this series to hit virtual book shelves soon.

Loved it. I thought I wouldn't at first, but the chemistry between Anna and Luc was amazing. I like the way their relationship progressed, and I was truly astounded that, every time I was beginning to find myself annoyed with the heroine, she did or said something else that almost totally defused it.

The writing was nice, the description not detailed but not too elaborate either. The concept of gods fighting over different realms also fascinated me. It was an idea I wish was developed further, but, at the same time, I'm glad there weren't any info dumps that took away from the romance.

I really liked Luc, and I thought his thoughts about his initial ghost approach to Anna was adorable. Anna was a bit harder for me to like at first, as she was fighting against him so hard, but her reasons for doing so were logical and I will always appreciate a logical heroine.
The relationship felt a little stange to me when they finally had sex, as Anna's sudden desperation for him that followed seemed out of character for her. Again, however, she changed her course before I became truly annoyed at her.

The only thing that kept me from giving this novel 5 stars was the ending; I felt it was kinda random, seeming almost rushingly added during the last ten or so pages. I also felt like Luc's love for Anna changed once he found out what she was. They still ended up together at the end of the book, so I guess that I'm not that upset about it; I just felt the ending would have been better if Winters hadn't finished with that little tidbit.

Other than that, I felt the ending tied up nicely. I will definitely try reading more of Zoe Winter's books in the future. I think her worlds, when fully developed, would be mind-blowing, and any romance she provides likely heart-warming.

Anna buys a home she's dreamt about since she was a child. Even though the house comes with an eerie history (the first owner died, and the last owner ended up in a mental institution), Anna isn't deterred. On her first night, she notices that something is off. What she didn't know was that she not only got her dream house ... she also got a house guest in the form of a sexy and smug incubus named Luc. She wants him gone, but he can't leave. His previous "girlfriend", a witch, trapped him with a curse. There's an instant attraction between Anna and Luc, and the sparks fly. She wards off his advances which makes him try that much harder - that's when hilarity ensues. She pulls out all the stops trying to break the curse, and to do this she calls on a priest, gypsies, ghost bus....hunters, and a coven of horny witches.

I absolutely loved this story. Zoe Winters breathes life into her characters with her sharp and snarky sense of humor. It's laugh out loud funny; I don't think I had a dry eye throughout the entire story. I loved the fact that there was character growth throughout the story which made them either more relatable or more endearing.

I don't like being able to guess halfway in what the big mystery or secret is, so I was taken by surprise by the clever plot twist at the end, and I never saw it coming.

Give this story a chance. There's much more sexual tension than sex, so if you're worried about all fluff and no plot, don't be. If this is the vein in which Ms Winters writes, then I'll definitely be looking into more of her work. 5 stars because there's no option for a higher rating.
