It is rare for a chess player to read a chess book cover to cover. Many chess players own lots of chess books but only dabble with them; examine certain Chapters or just use for reference. But this particular book is a classic and I had seen it recommended by several chess "experts" so I decided to read it properly. As the book itself states in the introduction - "The book is best worked through as a course of study so that the underlying ideas are absorbed."
I enjoyed working through the book although whether I "absorbed" anything is anyone's guess! The Endgame can be truly magical at times and I never got bored with it.
My own criticism is that the book seemed sometimes to dwell upon obscure possibilities with examples to match, instead of ramming home the main lessons with multiple examples of the most common themes.
This book is not for beginners and neither is it for Masters. But I fully recommend this book to all club chess players.

A good guide to the basics. This is a great first endgame book, but serious or advanced players will want much more.
