Hello there! Lets start with the 'goods'. I like this book.I love how the author goes about the text. How Maxwell just seems like a beast with small spoon and fork ( if that makes any sense). How he is so meek on the inside, and beastly on the outside. The idea of someone like Maxwell carryng a boy thats exactly oposite to him, on his back, and feels as if, they become one, they become Freak The Mighty.
A flaw I've caught was the whole 'killer kane kidnapping' happening was breif, and just seemed to be thrown n the book. Yeah, it was a father-son experience, but .. it jut didnt fit in the book. He was saved by Kevin, and it was never mentioned again.
Memorable part :
· When Maxwell experienced meloncholy. "I don't know if this makes aense, bt for a long time I felt like a balloon and somebody had let the air out of me. I didn't care if I'd ever get the air back, because what does it really matter if we're all gonna die in the end?"
This to me is saying he is pretty much feeling seflated .. and dosent really have motive to live much longer. This is atleast how I percieved it. Not sure of thats how it was meant to be.

YA literature at its best! I am currently using Freak the Mighty as a 6th grade Language Arts read aloud and I cannot give this book high enough praise. If you teach 5/6 grade English, or know a 5/6 grader, this book is a MUST. Absolutely fantastic.. Today, during the read aloud you could have heard a pin drop. On a Friday! At 8am! At the conclusion of chapter 4, the class applauded. That is a rare event during a class read aloud at any time, but it has certainly never happened to me on the second day of a read aloud! Read this book!!!
“Freak the Mighty” by Rodman Philbrick, is an amazing book that shows Max’s transformation. At the beginning of the book Max thinks of himself as a person who has no brain but by the end of the book with Kevin’s help he starts to understand his own strengths. I think the theme of this book is friendship and knowing who you are. I think people who like to read about true friendships would like this book.
This book really focused on friend ship and how to boys relied on each other to make it out. Sadly it had a very sad ending but this worked out for one of the friends as they now can do things they couldn't originally do.
