Felicity has racked up quite a list of matchmaking fumbles, but right now she’s beaming with joy. Not only has she learned that her longtime crush, Derek, is also a cupid, but he is now officially her boyfriend! But Felicity is terrified when she discovers her recent connection with Derek is due to the magical matchmaking of her boss at Cupid’s Hollow. Is Derek truly in love with Felicity, or is it all due to magic? Felicity has two weeks before the love spell wears off. And she’ll do whatever it takes to make sure this love match lasts!
Rhonda Stapleton started writing a few years ago to appease the voices in her head. She has a Master's degree in English and a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing. Rhonda lives in Northeast Ohio with her lovely, energetic family and their crazy dogs.
In the twelve minutes of free time she has each day, Rhonda enjoys reading, photography, writing poetry, singing in the shower (and in the car, at work, or basically anywhere that provides oxygen), drinking chai tea, and playing on the Internet (AKA, connecting to the “mother ship”).
My Thoughts: What can I possibly say? This is the last book of the series and I'm a little bit sad. I really enjoyed reading about Felicity and I don't want it to end. These books were extremely fast reads even though I tried to savor them. We are back again with Felicity and things are finally looking up for her. She's got the perfect boyfriend Derek, she's still best friends with Andy and Maya and her matchmaking is finally going smoothly, or so she thinks.
She goes in for a meeting with Janet and she sees that she's been matched with Derek. Oh no, does that mean that he isn't really into her and he's just under the spell. Crap, crap, crap.
Derek is such a likable character. I mean he's the perfect guy. He is sweet to Felicity, he leaves her roses, he babysits his siblings and he is very nice to his mom. Dreamy, much?
In Pucker Up, Felicity is there for her friends, she is trying to figure out if Derek really likes her or not, she even starts to feel a little bit sorry for her arch enemy by the end of the book.
Overall: I really enjoyed Pucker Up and am sad to see the series ending. I think my favorite of the three books was Flirting With Disaster. I will miss reading about Felicity and Derek but I'm glad how the book ended. The best word to describe the Stupid Cupid trilogy is cute. It's pure brain candy; like a piece of chocolate you want to just keep savoring over and over again.
What if Cupid was alive and well in today's world? What if Cupid's business was booming so much that he had to hire assistants to keep up with all the matchmaking needed? What if some of those assistants happened to be high school students in charge of matching up couples at their high school? The resulting comedy comes to a hilarious conclusion in Rhonda Stapleton's Pucker Up (Simon Pulse 2010).
I actually put off reading this last book for some time. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Stupid Cupid, but I never found the second book in the series. I finally broke down and read the third one, and I'm glad I did. I suspect I missed out on some love-gone-wrong in the second book, but I had no trouble following the action.
Fellicity should be walking on air. Her long-time crush Derek is now her boyfriend. Derek is even another Cupid employee. Her best friends Maya and Andy are happy in love as well. But not quite all is fair. Felicity's brother continues to bring home one horrible girlfriend after another. Maya's parents are headed for divorce. And worst of all, Felicity snoops among her boss's papers at Cupid's Hollow and learns that Cupid magic made Derek fall for her. Desperate to make their love last, Felicity will do whatever it takes to win Derek's heart once the magic wears off. Needless to say, most of her plans lead to disaster.
If you are looking for a romantic comedy packed with misunderstandings, near misses, and outright hilarity (the Cupid spell can sometimes lead to surprising declarations of love), look no further. There may not be grand life lessons to take away, but Pucker Up will leave you with a finer appreciation of affairs of the heart.
I thought this was a nice book, yet it had a cheesy ending, as in I saw it coming....This book is about Felicity Walker, a cupid, who finally has the boyfriend of her dreams. Just to add to that, it turns out that he is an undercover cupid, too! She and Derek have been so lovey-dovey everywhere, kissing in the hallways, hugging in the library, etc. How could this relationship possibly go wrong?! Well, of course, everything goes downhill for her, because at a meeting with her boss, she finds her name and Derek's name on a To-Do-List with a check beside their names. Oh great... The prom is coming up in a few weeks and Felicity needs to win Derek's heart before the spell is over. Can she do it? Or will she end up losing the guy she has been in love with since freshman year? There are quite a few main characters in this book. First of all, there is Derek, the love of her life! Derek is described as having beautiful brown hair and nice eyes. He hangs out with the jerks, but he himself is a sweetheart. Maya is her best friend who is, unfortunately having troubles at home. She is also fighting her parents, who think she should be spending less time with her boyfriend. Andy is her other friend, who is in love with her own guy of interest. During the book, she crashes her dad's expensive car and is terrified of the trouble she will get into when she tells him. Mallory, the queen snob, is a character who always goes out of her way to harass Felicity every chance she gets. She is described as being flirtatious, popular, and snobby. As I said before the book was pretty good, except for the fact that the end was sort of expected. I definitely cannot say the ending because that would definitely just spoil everything.
Pucker Up has the same elements as did Stupid Cupid: fun, flirtatious, and funny. There is something wholesome and enjoyable about this series that makes it such a guilty read, but it has enough drama and sass like divorce and cheaters that prevents it from becoming a cavity-inducing book. If you read The Naughty List by Suzanne Young you might understand the cute aspects of the book. Now just replace strawberry smooth with words like “ballsy” and you have Pucker Up.
Pucker Up and the series in general is very modern in terms of diction and references (PDAs anyone?) that may not far well with the test of time. It does, however, have elements that are classics like concerns if your love interest really does care about you and toughening out through a divorce.
The ending was expected yet unexpected at the same time. I will not give it away, but I will mention that it was fitting. It was just a bit too quick and was settled too easily for me though.
Stupid Cupid was hilarious—laugh out loud funny—but Pucker Up was more tender. Rhonda Stapleton has a very stable writing and consistently delivers each time. Her characters are all likeable including the ‘villains’ and her humor is agreeable to almost every reader.
This is a cute series. The protagonist is Felicity who is a cupid. She is really a very nice girl with 2 amazingly supportive, loyal, kind and good girls. She is finally dating the boy she has been crushing on for a long time. Derek is an incredible boy as well. He excels at everything, is supportive to his pregnant mom, and babysits his syblings often. I think the four of them are amazing examples of teenagers. I do get disappointed with the somewhat potty mouth that Felicity has. When you are writing about exemplary teens why can't they be even more exemplary.
This story is cute while Felicity is trying to help her friends cope and deal with problems of their own while she is dealing with her own fears and inadequacies.
I really liked the second book, but this one just didn't do it for me. I thought this book was going to be about Felicity realizing Janet had matchmade her and Derek. I didn't realize that may not have been the case. I'm not too crazy about books where a couple has a connection, and in the sequel, one of them does stupid things to screw it all up. That's pretty much what this book was. Felicity was being so self-conscious and insecure that she overanalyzed everything and picked fights with Derek. So of course, they didn't have that connection that I loved so much in the Flirting with Disaster.
Much better than the first two (actual rating maybe 3.5) I actually liked Felicity in this one (she's a great friend) rather than thinking she was a flat character and too whiny. The ending was really predictable... but sweet.
I liked this book...but it was a bit too predictable. Not the best way to end the series in my mind. But, still a good read. Not as funny as the other two though.
