Bev Rydel and Kat Tedsen return to investigating Michigan's most haunted locations in Haunted Travels of Michigan, volume 2
For this second book in the series, the authors have traveled across Michigan conducting paranormal investigations to identify the truth behind urban legends, ghost stories, and suspect hauntings. Their travels have taken them from urban settings to remote regions to find the answers. Investigations and stories in their second book delve into some of Michigan's greatest disasters, unsolved murders, demons and deliverance.
Of course for authors, Kat Tedsen and Bev Rydel, it's not just about the haunting but the history that creates the haunting. Months of research have been spent to search for the historical truth and how it may related to the haunted evidence. What they found was revealing and unexpected. Something does exist out there...something that can't be explained...something paranormal.
To give the reader a full, three-dimensional sense of the investigation and results, this book is Web interactive. Read the story, visit their Web site's Secret Room, review the evidence, and decide for yourself. This book features "The Holly Demon". This story was adapted for SyFy's Paranormal Witness TV Series. "Lady on the Stairs" episode aired September 2012.

The Haunted Travels of Michigan series is co-authored by Kathleen Tedsen and Beverlee Rydel.
In 2006, the two sisters began their journey in the paranormal. Since then, they've traveled 10's of thousands of miles around the state in search of Michigan's most haunted locations. Beginning as skeptics, what they have personally witnessed and recorded challenged their beliefs.
Before their paranormal adventures began, Kat and Bev had professional positions completely unrelated to their current endeavors.
Prior to beginning TR Desktop Publishing in 1991, Kat was involved with with writing and management of media production. Over that 15 year period, she produced advertising and training programs for Fortune 500 clients, including Kelly Services, General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, and Harley Davidson.
Bev (pictured right) was a human resource professional carrying over 20 years' in management, training and public speaking. During that period, she has served in a senior management capacity for major financial institutions.
Their first joint writing/book series was the "Michigan Vacation Guide". This book series gained recognition by the State of Michigan and was placed on the Secretary of State's "Read Michigan" list in 1995.
A spooky fun local history lesson and guide to some interesting historical locations. The writers seem reasonably skeptical of their findings and actually made me question some of the practices I have seen on some of my favorite ghost-hunting shows.
The end of the book gives their reviews of some of the common ghost-hunting equipment, and yeah the “ghost box” that rapidly scans AM radio frequencies, how is a ghost supposed to turn white noise into words and how would you ever know what is coincidence or from the other side? (It sure sounds creepy as hell on those TV shows though!) Then there’s the Ovilus that supposedly turns EMF signal levels into words. But how is a ghost supposed to know what corresponds to what? And also this assumes that ghost can even control EMF, which is a big assumption. (Just because levels spike when ghosts are supposedly around doesn’t mean they can control it.)
Sometimes the writing in this book wavers from descriptors that sound more like what one finds in fiction rather than a recount of a purported scientific investigation, and other times the voice sounds more like a blog or diary—it could have benefited from a mean editor in other words, especially with two authors. But once you get used to the style, I enjoyed it.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this book. Although I do believe that there could be ghosts or unexplained situations, I never really gave paranormal activity a thought. These authors so clearly explain how they chose each site across Michigan and also included a brief history on each location.
The book is full of examples of Michigan locations that had a history of potential ghosts. They explain how they set up each site and exactly who is there with them. My only criticism is that each story had so many of the same set ups. First, introducing the paranormal team for each place, then explaining how respected they are and how well they work together then finally sitting quietly until some activity from the dead arrives.
This is an easy read and it is enjoyable. It certainly makes you think about whether or not you believe in the possibility of haunted buildings and ghosts.
Great read for anyone interested in exploring the possibility of ghosts, hauntings, and paranormal. Not just another book of ghost stories and urban legends. The authors take you on their investigations into various Michigan locations. What makes this book even more unique, all stories are linked to a website. Using passwords included in each story, the reader can see and hear the evidence collected in each story.
I was impressed with the historical research of each story and the often surprising connection between the historical truth and the evidence collected during investigations. The authors approach each investigation skeptically and very objectively.
The demon story was startling and challenged my beliefs. Investigations into unsolved murders, great disasters, mob murders and more made this one of the best books I've read in this genre. Highly recommended.
After reading and thoroughly enjoying the first book in the Haunted Travels series, I decided to give their second a try. I was not disappointed.
The second book in the series contains all new stories and investigation sites. Like the first, each story leans heavily on history and its connection to a haunting. In fact, the first story was absolutely surprising how the history was so closely connected to a traumatized woman. Very compelling.
In this book, the authors investigate unsolved murders, the Purple Gang and mafia, and even a story associated with Henry Ford's darker side, to name a few.
Like the first book, the stories are connected to a website where readers can see and hear the evidence the authors discover during their investigation.
Another creepy, fascinating read. Perhaps even better than there first. I hope the authors have another book planned.
