The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1884 under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. It is used by Jehovah’s Witnesses to support their worldwide work, which includes publishing Bibles and Bible-based literature.
According to its charter, the corporation’s purposes are “religious, educational, and charitable,” in particular, to “preach and teach the gospel of God’s Kingdom under Christ Jesus.” Membership in the corporation is by invitation only and is not based on how much a person has donated. The corporation members and directors assist the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
I love the eloquent way it was written, yet I may never know who the actual author is. Rather, it points more to an organization as having written it. It shows the message of prophecy that shows clearly that יהוה both inspired God's word, and can bring to fruition anything that he says will come about. It points both to an ancient fulfillment, and a fulfillment that stretches to this day. Also, rather than water down the bible, it supplements, highlights and even complements the bible, thus showing God's wisdom to be superior to man's. Indeed the God dwelling above the circle of the Earth is not attended to by human hands, and point Paul later reiterated. So nice job, thank you, enjoyed the book.
This 2000 publication of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) is of the 4"x6" format they favored for most books since the 1960s, but is printed in a paperback edition of more than 400 pages, with a photo on the cover (rather than the monochromatic hardcover books they previously printed). It is very well-illustrated. With an initial pressing of 5,000,000 copies, it was intended for wide distribution. Despite its recent printing, is it no longer available from the Watchtower.
Here are some quotations from the book, that often illustrate distinctive doctrines of the WBTS:
"A similar restoration has taken place in our day. Early in the 20th century, the Bible Students, as Jehovah's Witnesses were known then, came into spiritual captivity to 'Babylon the Great,' the world empire of false religion... But in the spring of 1919, Jehovah had mercy on this remnant of spiritual Israelites... so he brought about their release from literal imprisonment and, more important, from spiritual captivity." (Pg. 66) "But why does Jehovah ask, 'Who will go for US?' By switching from the singular personal pronoun 'I' to the plural pronoun 'us,' Jehovah now includes at least one other person with himself. Who? Was this not his only-begotten Son, who later became the man Jesus Christ?" (Pg. 94) "Jesus is also 'Mighty God' and 'Eternal Father.' This does not mean that he usurps the authority and position of Jehovah... He is called Mighty God, not Almighty God. Jesus never thought of himself as God Almighty, for he spoke of his Father as 'the only true God,' that is, the only God who should be worshipped." (Pg. 131) "Today there is a worldwide organization similar to ancient Moab. It is Christendom, the principal part of 'Babylon the Great.' (Revelation 17:54)" (Pg. 194) "What of Babylon the Great? By engineering the oppression of God's people during World War I, she effectively held them in exile for a time... The President and other prominent officers of the Watch Tower Society were imprisoned on false charges. But 1919 saw an astounding reversal. The officers were released from prison, the headquarters office was reopened, and the preaching work was recommenced." (Pg. 224) "This spiritual healing has physical benefits. For example, avoiding immoral sex and the use of tobacco products protects Christians against sexually transmitted diseases and certain forms of cancer." (Pg. 355) "In modern times, there exists an organization with a record like that of Edom. What organization? Well, who in modern times has taken the lead in reviling and persecuting Jehovah's servants? Has it not been Christendom, through its clergy class?... But Jehovah has decreed a 'year of retributions' against this modern-day Edom for outrageous misconduct toward His people, His Witnesses." (Pg. 365) "Isaiah's words are filled with prophetic meaning for our day. In 1914, Jehovah came 'even with strength' and established his Kingdom in the heavens. The 'arm that is ruling for him' is his Son, Jesus Christ, whom Jehovah has installed upon his heavenly throne. In 1919, Jehovah delivered his anointed servants on earth from bondage to Babylon the Great and set about completely restoring the pure worship of the true and living God." (Pg. 406)
Some 2,700 years ago, God inspired a man of the Middle East to utter a series of prophecies that have special meaning for our day. These messages are recorded in the Bible book bearing that prophet’s name—Isaiah. Who was Isaiah, and why can we say that his prophecy, recorded almost three millenniums ago, provides light for all mankind today? Isaiah paints a glorious word picture of “new heavens and a new earth” wherein “a king will reign for righteousness itself” and princes will rule for justice. ( see Isaiah 32:1, 2; 65:17, 18; 2 Peter 3:13) Thus the book of Isaiah points to the heartwarming hope of God’s Kingdom, under the Messiah Jesus Christ as enthroned King. Let the light shine!
A comprehensive look at the bible book of Isaiah. It goes thru chapter 40. Very detailed look at the past, history, prophecy, and how it relates to today and our future.
