Success One Day At A Time is the kind of book you will want to carry in your car or place at the side of your bed. Each page contains a snapshot of the daily road of an overcomer. It is the perfect gift for the new graduate as well as anyone else who wants to become all that God intended! Owning a book by John Maxwell is like having your own personal trainer cheerleader. Drawing on over twenty years of experience in training leaders, John shares not only how to succeed but the biblical reason for doing so. "Success is knowing your purpose in life, sowing seeds that benefit others, and growing to your maximum potential," he says. He asserts that success is for everyone. The secret of success is found in your daily routine, springing from your dreams, vision and consistent self-discipline.
John Calvin Maxwell is an American author, speaker, and pastor who has written many books, primarily focusing on leadership. Titles include The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader. Some of his books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List.
This book is a collection of short stories, lessons, quotes, some are excerpts from three of John Maxwell's other books ("Failing Forward," "The 21 Indispensable Qualities of A Leader," and "The Success Journey: The Process of Living Your Dreams.") I found this to be a mostly effortless read, and was impressed with the amount of wisdom captured and condensed into this small book. He has broken it into three sub-sections: "Dream," "Persevere," and "Grow," sharing many keys to success to be applied daily. Here's a random sample of a couple of his quotes: "People who have given up are ruled by their darkest mistakes, worst failures, and deepest regrets. If you want to be successful, then be governed by your finest thoughts, your highest enthusiasm, your greatest optimism, and your most triumphant experiences." "Success is not a destination thing - it's a daily thing." "Do something you hate every day, just for the practice." I gained more appreciation for John Maxwell in this reading, and now will be getting his other books mentioned above, to read and add to my library.
This may seem like a small book, but this book will help you realize your success is not a destination but a journey. The point? Begin that journey. Commit thy works unto the LORD and thy thoughts will be established - Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)
This book will be found not on my bookshelf but in my purse. “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” John C. Maxwell
So what are you going to change today?
Fascinating quick read. Everyone should read this at some point in their lives especially in their 30’s.
A great collection of platitudes--basically a synthesis of Tony Robbinss, Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy. While all those people can be unbearable, a little soupçon of them can be inspiring for little daily reminders.
A quick read as it's mostly quotes and little inspiring stories of success. Success is certainly more than money, fame and prestige. Success is living out the hard work to achieve your dreams and success is acting on that today. It pushed the idea that success on a large scale starts with changing your daily routine, right now. This books gives the reader an inspiring do it now desire and the encouragement in knowing great things take a lot of time and work and that we shouldn't give up.
Some of my favorite's from this were:
"Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm" -Abe Lincoln
"If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten" -J. Maxwell
"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." -Thomas Edison
And I think my favorite was,
"By perseverance the snail reached the arc." -Charles Spurgeon
It's a quick little read that is light on substance but heavy on nuggets of wisdom. It's one of those books that you have to sort of drink in and then think about; in fact the preface advises you read the book in one or two sittings, then keep it handy for random reference. You can't take the wisdom too literally, but there is plenty to ponder over and apply to a multitude of contexts, in addition to some beautifully selected quotes. This book is being added to my "most essential" collection of books because I can see myself flipping through it to remind myself, or to share with others.
When I picked up this book I had forgotten my previous experience with one of the author's works. I was reminded in short time however, and it all came back. There were even sections of the previous book that were just dropped into this one. I'm sure the author's intentions are good but not much else about this work was. This is just a package of soundbites, nothing really substantive, and that is a pity because I felt that it had the potential to be more.
This small book packs a big inspirational punch. I carried it in my bag all through college and nursing school. Then when I got my first nursing job, it went with me to work. Whenever I needed a daily inspiration, I would pull my book out and read some of the quotes. This would be a great gift for a new high school or college graduate.
If you're looking for an author with a lot of insight into life and growth, this isn't the book for you. If you're looking for a book with a lot of insight into life and growth, this book IS for you. Maxwell puts a lot of great tidbits to assist your daily interactions and thought life, however most are not his words. Great book to have with you when you have a few minutes to get better.
Very trite. Not a lot of input from the author - he uses a lot of other people's words (quotes) as filler to try to make this very lean book seem more substantial. Don't waste your money; just look up inspirational quotes online.
I got this as a gift from one of my employees and the dedication from this person was very touching. This is a quick read, but very helpful and meaningful messages.
A quick read with beautiful illustrations and pictures throughout. A good book with a lot of inspiring quotes, brief story examples and tips on how to make a change.
