As the war with the Saxons reaches its darkest hour, Branwen is taking on suicidal missions. When disaster strikes, and a valued friend suffers a devastating injury, Branwen must trust in the power of her destiny more than ever.

CATCHALL Due to being UK fiction, these books aren't too well known, but I absolutely adore them nonetheless. They can be hard to read at times but are a whole lot of fun despite their content and make fun reads for when I need a break. They're perfect read to go to and have lovely covers. I love these books, and I think they're really amazing.
THE HEROINE BRANWEN Branwen definitely grows in this book. She starts out prideful in the beginning of this book, and then slowly comes to accept her responsibilities and her humanity as she learns who she really is. She grows into herself and develops powerfully as a strong female character who won't take no for an answer. She's stubborn, but admirably so. I think she made a wonderful arc and I loved seeing how she grew in this one.
THE LOVE INTEREST IWAN He's charming and gorgeous. It'd be totally insane not to fall in love with him immediately! I love how he can be so smooth on the outside but be so totally unsure on the inside. It's so sweet. He's brave, he's strong, but he definitely has a softer side! He's a really awesome character and probably half the reason I read these books so much. I beyond adore him.
THE COMPANIONS I'm not going to go over them all, only cover two of them in-depth. However, I must say I adore all of Branwen's companions. RHODRI Rhodri has been a faithful friend from the beginning and I love him for it! He is always steady and loyal no matter what, even when terrible things happen. He real stands by what he believes in no matter what, and that's just so awesome to see! BLODWEDD I liked her so much more than I did before for much of this book. She's really developed as a character and become so much more relatable and even real. I was completely shocked by a plot twist involving her that was thrown in later but not altogether completely unsurprised.
THE PLOT There was a lot of action. A lot of death and sadness and horror. But also, a lot of love and happiness and light. There was a lot of everything.
I really, really, really loved it, and that's saying something. More than I thought I would, even.
I found myself enthralled, drawn into the book further and further with each page that passed. Pulled inside until it became my absolute world. It enveloped me utterly and completely and I loved every single moment of it.
There were a ton of unexpected twists, and yet I never felt lost. I always knew enough that I could tell exactly what was going on, and that was awesome. I felt I knew exactly what the characters were going through, and I loved that!
To sum this book up in a word, it was incredible.
THE ROMANCE These books are light and sweet on romance, which is both nice and not nice. nice because it leaves room for an actual story, but not nice because I want more! More love, more romance, more kissing. More, simply! I really love the chemistry and how beautifully everything is written. Honestly, my sole complaint in the romance department is lack of a sufficient amount.
THE WRITING I won't lie to you: Frewin's writing can often be hard to understand. i struggled more than once trying to understand what the heck the characters were even saying. The description is beautiful, but at times a bit too much, and sometimes at its worst the writing is hard to comprehend completely clearly. It doesn't significantly detract form the story, but it is a damper.
THE ENDING The ending was wonderful, open a bit but still mostly resolved. There's a lovely and sweet moment at the end that I adored and thought was incredibly cute, and I like the implication that there was more to come, that there would always be more to come. The ending could not have been better, if you ask me.
WRAPUP This is supposedly the last book in the series, although I find myself hoping vehemently for another. I really do want to know more, and this author is one that can really take you places. I loved this series in its entirety and am thinking I would love to read more from this author very soon!
I spent my childhood thinking Allan Frewin Jones was a woman, so imagine my surprise to find out otherwise at the age of twenty-two lol. But I really enjoyed the Shakespearean writing I couldn't properly appreciate when I was younger, and on an unrelated note, I love Sarah J. Maas but it is SO REFRESHING to for once read a fantasy that's not written by her.
Best one yet! I read this in one sitting and could not put it down. I had other books to read before this one but I just couldn't wait so I settled down to read more of Branwen's adventures!
The book opens with another bloody battle and the pace does not relent from then on. Branwen and her band of followers set out to escort the two snobby princesses we met in the first book to Pengwern so that Meredith the eldest princess can marry King Cynon's son Drustan. At the beginning of the book Branwen feels invincible under the protection of the Shining ones. However sad and tragic events rattle her faith and she begins to feel as though they have abandoned her. Meanwhile her old enemy Ironfist is beginning to put the final touches on his plan to take over Branwen's home country.
This was heartbreaking! I don't want to spoil it but prepare to shed some tears! Also readers will be happy with the developments in Branwen's and Iwans relationship =P
This is the last book! But there is potential for more books! I hope that the author is able to write more.
Last book in a series of four. Book three was great. I gave this book four stars, mostly on the strength of its continuation of the story; and the fact that Branwen is still my favorite heroine. But it is brooding and sullen, compared with the fiery action of the prior books. The climax does include an end-fight; and it's good. But "old gods" play such a major role in the story, that it begins to read like Greek or Roman mythology. The end is open, leaving room for sequels; but there hasn't been any since 2012, so I guess Frewin Jones is done with Branwen. Still, I thank him for her. She was fun!
I really liked this book, it was not as good as the other ones though, it is because I just really didn't like how this one person died (if I told you it would spoil the whole book!). She should have come back alive, then I would like this book as much as I liked the other books. This book was good, and really clean, but I just wasn't fond of how this girl died, and the ending. I feel like the author could have done a little better on ending the book, because I still have so many questions that he didn't answer in the end of this book! I would suggest this book series to anyone because it was AMAZING!! I would recommend this book to anyone 8 and older.
There is a 4th book!!!!! How did I not know this?!?!? Must get immediately and reread series!!
But its selling only in paperback used. And I have all hardcover for the first 3. And......its selling for $200ish! Its out of print, and not even on Kindle!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Well, changed my mind. Negative 1 is my rate for the book. For disappointment. Started where it should, and ended in the middle of nowhere. I thought I'd be sad for finishing the last book, but now I guess I'm mad. It took me, well, idk, MONTHS (lost count. Feels like decades, even though I've not lived 2 yet) to find a book that includes #1. female warrior[S] #2. One without stupid 'lovebird' thingys playing in a big part of the book AND #3. one that includes slingshot and hunts (yeah. I use slingshot).
In the start of the book, Branwen and her small band were guarding king Cynon's kingdom by looking out for Saxons in a snowy winter, which they soon find and killed with another band of warriors of a treacherous prince led by a captain who stench of loyalty for that-um-prince. She soon found out that they came so that the oldest princess of the 'treacherous prince' Merideth could be wed to king Cynon's son Drustan to make peace between the lands after the 'bonds' between the treacherous prince and the Saxon General Herewulf Ironfist.
In the beginning of the book, Branwen trusted the Shining Ones with her heart, but after a heartbreaking event, her faith shattered and had thoughts about the Shining Ones leaving her, that she was no longer the child of Destiny.
No. Actually, I'll rate it as a 6-star, just so that you'll read it, and if you don't, then, well, I'll change it to a 7-star ;)

I read this in one sitting and could not put it down. I lack some sleep but I do not regret it!
On a side note: I don't exactly hate open endings because, let's be truthful, it's better to have an open ending than a bad one but I still resent them. I understand their purpose and allure to an author due to flexibility but...I continue to rebel. As a reader I find it somewhat frustrating. It almost feels unfinished which, come to think of it, it's maybe the idea all along. It definitely allows the author to return a couple years later and present the readers with more adventures.
Despite all my misgivings about this ending...I was absolutely surprised with this book. It is better than the other ones and such a fast-paced, exhilarating and heart-pounding adventure! I truly loved it. My heart broke a little when it seemed Branwen was leaving without Iwan but fortunately he didn't let himself get tricked and went after her. I was kinda hoping for a kiss but oh well. It's so sad for Branwen however, never to have been able to return to her home and see her mother. I actually hoped to see Lady Alis appear out of thin air but, alas, it was not meant to be.
I find myself hoping vehemently for another book. Or a whole new series with Branwen, her friends and the mysterious Chosen of The Shining Ones. That works too!

this was such an enjoyable series! I love YA/fiction with warrior girls, but in my experience, it's so hard to find something that a) doesn't make romance a big part of it and/or b) doesn't at least imply sexual assault. the warrior princess series avoids both of these things and I can very gladly endorse it as an easy yet engrossing read! the little romantic hints that were there were nice because it felt like a good evolution of the relationship. AND OH, BLODWEDD, MY HEART - I saw it coming a mile away but still, agh why - that would be my only complaint about this series.
This was one of my favourite series I read back in high school. This one in particular, the last book in the series, I remember was my absolute favourite and I re-read it a few times. Branwen goes from being very confident to unsure of her faith in the Shining Ones on her expedition (her character development improved with each book), Iwan's relationship with her comes along rather nicely. And not to mention a very unexpected plot twist, that frankly I would have seen coming now I am older but back then I really gasped! The descriptions were good too. I had hoped there were going to be more books as the end was somewhat open, but alas! It would appear not.
In Caradoc of the North Wind we follow Branwen and her followers on the last leg of their journey to defeat the Saxons once and for all. Caradoc of the North Winds is a gripping read that will have you hooked from page one. If you haven't already begun reading the Warrior Princess series I highly recommend you do. A thoroughly enjoyable series that I have found to be suited for all ages.
Words can't even begin to convey how beautiful this book is...
Packed to the brim with action, adventure, friendships and a bit of romance, "Caradoc of the North Wind' is an absolutely breathtaking end to a wonderful series that keeps you hanging onto every word and wanting for more. What's more, the heroine is honest, loyal, relatable, makes mistakes and is easy to take the blame.
An absolute pleasure to read and most certainly deserving of 5 stars.
Please please, this can’t be the last one. Don’t leave me like this! Please, write another one. There has to me another book. What about the young bear? What about Branwen and Iwan? What about the male Chosen One? what, what, what????!!! NO!! I stared this series in excitement, and the first book was a bit of a let down. But then. This. It’s just gotten better and better with each book and. Oh. I am in love with these characters. Omigosh – where is the fifth book!?!?!?!? <:O
I had to order this book from a place in England because it never came out in the United States. Luckily it was in english so i managed to read it and loved it! I love this author! He is such a great writer.
My only question is, could Caliburn, the magical sword, be Excalibur? Is the other warrior child, Arthur?? They even look similar! I hope Allan makes another series that connects with this series! I love the Warrior child and I was quite upset that she didn't kiss Iwan!!!! >.<

Wow what a fantastic read it was full on from the beginning! It kept you on edge and had to find out what happens next. The downfall is the ending I didn't feel as it was the end, it's like there was more to the story what happens with the boy? And their relationship?
great book though unfortunatly not sold here in canda where i live. to get my copy i wrote to the author and explained that we have one two and three in canada but this one was not published here. he sent me a copy from the uk hes a great guy and id love to meet him in person someday :)
