Hunter - After The Fall

Rate this book
In volume one of his epic post-apocalyptic adventure saga, master storyteller John Phillip Backus brings this not-so-distant vision of the future to life with intriguing characters, gifted narrative, believable settings and mythic heroes and villains. Driven by a riveting storyline brilliantly illustrated by Asheville, NC artist, Chad Schoenauer, the author weaves his linguistic magic until the reader is utterly immersed in this brave new world and dare not fail to turn the next page for fear of missing out. On his own in the Wyoming wilderness, fourteen years after the End War and its aftermath nearly wiped out the human race, self-exiled survivor, Hunter Macintosh, is suddenly faced with more than he bargained for-three sisters and a child crossing the uncharted wilds alone. Suspicious at first, Hunter soon discovers they've traveled more than three hundred miles to find him, at the request of their father, Adam Planchet-Hunter's former commander and comrade-in-arms-whose besieged Colorado community is at risk of being overrun by lawless hordes! Honor-bound by a pledge made many years earlier, Hunter agrees to return with Elise Planchet to help turn the tide before all is lost. Set against the majestic backdrop of the North American Rockies, Hunter - After The Fall is an engrossing tale of adventure, betrayal and hope, where the true character of an individual is thoroughly tested and the outcome uncertain at best. Join Hunter and Elise as they battle bands of outlaws, enraged grizzlies, numbing blizzards, armed militias and their own stubborn hearts in an epic tale of good-versus-evil in a potential future all too easy to conceive!

I thoroughly enjoyed Hunter - After the Fall by John Phillip Backus. The way he eloquently describes the scenery, presents the story line and develops the characters, makes this post-apocalyptic action-adventure very believable and entertaining. This novel isn't your typical, depressing PA book, but rather an uplifting tale of courage and rebuilding after the End War. Packed with action, adventure and romance, I was eager to continue on as the story took many twists and turns. I would highly recommend this book to any action-adventure, wilderness, PA, or sci-fi book lover and look forward to reading The Gathering!

This book was horrible! Between the fact that one of the characters was carrying a ".45 Baretta with a laser sight" and the author's use of an exclamation point to end every sentence, I couldn't get more than half way through the book before I had to put it down.

The storyline isn't bad, but it seems to be written by a very amateur writer. Some scenes were difficult to get through because they weren't fleshed out well while others seemed overly and needlessly embellished.

I had high hopes for this one, but was very disappointed.

This was an excellent book. It was hard to put it down to take breaks. The characters and the details of the setting were so vivid, I could easily see this story being made into a movie. The nice part about the story is the detail to nature and the interaction with it. After reading it for a while you forget the story takes place after a huge war that almost wiped out the entire planet. I can not wait for Backus to release his next book. Definitely recommend people to read this book.

This book was really good. I love the end of the world as we know it books. I can't wait for the next one " The Gathering " ( I think that is the name of it) to come out.

I have nothing but good things to say about Hunter - After The Fall. The author eloquently paints each and every scene in vivid detail so that you can truly visualize the setting and get into the story. Set after the "End War," which destroyed much of civilization, this book is packed with action, romance, suspense and even some cool illustrations. The characters are believable and well developed. You feel as if you get to know Hunter and Elise and are left wondering what is going to happen next. I cannot wait for the second installment in the series, The Gathering!

Definitely the author's first book. Nothing to deep or original here, but it does the tropes well. Main character never fails, is a perfect specimen of humanity, and is unsympathetic as a result. The post-holocaust background is there to enable the author to tell a wild-west story.

I enjoyed the story but the events seemed to come a go a bit quick, there was lots of build up then it was over and then there was still 20% left?
I don't think enough was made of the main event. I'm still not decided on whether i will read the next one.
