Nearly eighteen hundred different bird species--one fifth of the world's birds--have been recorded in Peru. Birds of Peru is the most complete and well-researched field guide to this rich and fascinating diversity. It illustrates every one of the 1,792 species and shows the distinct plumages of each. It includes 304 superb, high-quality color plates directly opposite concise descriptions and color distribution maps, making it much easier to use in the field than standard neotropical field guides. The detailed text discusses key identification features, status, distribution, and vocalizations for all species, and many subspecies.

This field guide enables users to identify all species found in Peru, and is also useful throughout much of western South America, particularly southeastern Colombia, southern Ecuador, western Brazil, Bolivia, and northern Chile.

Birds of Peru is an indispensable resource for birdwatchers, biologists, naturalists, and conservationists working or traveling in Peru and South America.

Used on two trips this year to Peru (central valley and South East - Sacred Valley/Manu road/Los Amigos) and earlier on a trip to the north (Abra Patricia/Plataforma).
Best field guide for Peru in my opinion. Yes, there will be splits that are not in there yet and the maps are a bit small. But maybe combined with Merlin I would still recommend it.

Though I like the relatively compact size and page layout of this guide, especially the thumbnail maps next to the text on each plate spread, the inconsistent quality of the illustrations made it less than a joy to use.

A truly helpful guide when you're in the middle of the Amazon jungle, attempting to catch and understand as many birds as possible.

Used in Peruvian Amazon to identify more birds than I thought I could see in one place! Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. Don't go birding in Peru without it! Quite large and heavy but worth the space in the backpack. Range maps are included in this edition, which is quite helpful!

It's the only book that was used as a field guide by field staff and local guides at MLC, Manu Reserve, Peru so there is no greater endorsement than that!

Superb in every way. A detailed guide to the bird species found across the country. This was useful on my recent expedition to Peru for quick and easy bird identification. Highly recommend.
