This helped me so much as I completed the one year Bible plan. I read the explanation of each book prior to reading the actual Bible book then did the study questions after reading each book. It was an excellent and life changing experience! Thank you, Douglas Connelly!
This was a helpful companion as I read through the Bible. It's objective and gives good background on different views. I started it long ago and this year, challenged myself to finish it since I had so much more reading time.
The book's not bad. About what ya'd expect for a beginners-type guide. Ya know, I feel sad for saying this, but the more I read the Bible, the less I believe in it. I came to Christianity after college, so I wasn't brainwashed as a kid to believe in everything. I'm not a big fan of the Old Testament. From an anthropological perspective, it's really just about one backwards tribe whining about how they're special. I like the New Testament, but it veers off at times over doctrinal disputes. I don't think a lot of people realize that the Bible was put together centuries after Jesus died. It's not the magical word of God. It's just a nice book. That's why I prefer to focus on the actual teachings of Jesus. Everything else is just a distraction.
