Hey guys its Jessica. Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long. I apologize for the long overdue wait for Janet’s next book. You’ve all been very patient and loyal fans that she loves. She has been working on this book over the last year and a half while dealing with her battle with cancer. It saddens me to say that she peacefully lost this battle this past weekend while her family was by her side. I apologize if this feels sudden, she was a very private person even to her family. And she truly thought of all of you as her family. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Very entertaining read! Ethan and Anna were the perfect match. As usual, Janet Chapman delivers a funny, heartwarming and romantic story.
This is the second book in the Logger Series. After reading the first book, and learning Ethan had been fired his first day on the “job” at the mill his family will soon own, I was excited to see how his story would unfold. This book didn’t disappoint. Ethan, though suffering from a bit of old school mentality when it comes to women working in a “man’s” domain, was surprisingly sweet towards Anna.
I loved everything about the story!
I loved the shared history between Ethan and Anna. I loved the side story between Paul and Jane. I loved Anna’s strange living habits and the animals she cohabited with.
Another great story by Janet Chapman!!!

“Walking back through the kitchen, he stopped long enough to put the kettle on to boil, then returned to the living room and stopped dead in his tracks.
There were half a dozen chickadees perched on “Anna's chest and head, chirping at her.”

This is my first time reading this author and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I really liked the heroine, Anna. She is strong and fair minded. And surprise surprise, so is the male lead, Ethan! Is it possible to make a romance story where both the hero and heroine are fair minded? Well here is living proof!
I look forward to reading the first book in this series!!

OMG Girl! Where has Janet Chapman been hiding?!?
Bit of a background on me and this book: I went to something called a 'reuse' centre with my mom and in the musty dusty bordering on disgusting building of treasures, I dug around in the very busy book section (busy section but I was the only one in romance). I was snooping around under the table were all the boxed books are looking for classics that I have in ebook format but could use in my actual library (Susan Elizabeth Phillips books or Rachel Gibson or any of those). I came across this book and the first in the series, picked up both not knowing the author or realizing the books were related.
I chose to read this one because of the wicked title and the secret identity theme (one of my faves). Oh Man. This wasn't just good, it was fabulous which is such a surprise when you pick up a random book.
I do wish I would have read book one: the seduction of his wife first to have a better idea of Ethan but nothing can be done about that now.
The setting of this book is one of the most exciting aspects for me. I didn't realize that this was a contemporary romance, I just assumed that logging suggested that they were in the early 1900's. Isn't that silly? So I found it pretty interesting to read about these two characters in the logging environment.
The main characters are great with complex personalities, back stories and issues and they have a great chemistry. It seems odd, but one thing that stood out for me was that the heroine cries in front of the hero at one point pretty early on in the book. I LOVED that because she is the type of person who wouldn't cry and because of that she does cry because it is so appropriate but a big deal isn't made out of the act. It made her seem all the more human.
Some of the situations are a bit ridiculous ... but in an entertaining-so-it-didn't-ruin-the-book sort of way. I just want to say that 1) she didn't seem hurt enough from that car accident and 2) If there are animals in the house why was there no talk about the poop?
But all in all I ate this book up and loved it to death. I've already started book one, and it is also a great read so far. I did notice that there are only two books in this series, which makes me a bit sad. I wonder if we ever see Daniel the game warden or the head cop in any other book, they seemed like quite interesting characters so I was sad to see that there doesn't appear to be a book focused on either of them.

Very good follow-on to The Seduction of His Wife. In this book, the Knight family has decided to purchase Loon Cove Mill from its retiring owner. Ethan is tagged with getting a job at the mill to learn the business while the purchase is negotiated. Unfortunately for him, he makes a really stupid mistake the first morning he is there and gets himself fired by the foreman.
Anna has been the foreman for Loon Cove since her return to Oak Grove a few months earlier. She had lived in Oak Grove with her mother until she was eleven when her father took her to live in Canada with him. She never forgot Ethan and how he rescued her one day. That shy girl has grown into a woman with a great reputation in the industry, the confidence to go with it, and a run-down mill inherited from her maternal grandfather.
I loved that first encounter between Ethan and Anna. Ethan's inattention nearly got him flattened, and if Anna hadn't been as good as she is, he would have been dead. As it was, she wrecked the loader she was driving trying to avoid him and was hopping mad when she got out of the damaged vehicle. All Ethan saw was a mad driver in a hard hat and carrying a tire iron, and decked her before he realized she was a woman. He was horrified at what he had done (both parts), but she was in no mood to listen and fired him immediately. They didn't recognize each other, but Anna quickly learned who he was. A few weeks later, they met again, this time with Ethan being one of the new owners. That encounter was good also, especially when Anna realized that it was Ethan who would be renting one of the cottages on her new property. There are definite sparks between the two of them, as Ethan is instantly attracted to Anna, the spitfire, and Anna is still drawn to her childhood crush. Matters get more complicated when Anna's truck slides off the road on the way home and Ethan saves her. It was an intense scene as he raced to get her out before the truck slid down the ravine. It was followed by the fun of seeing Ethan's determination to take care of her, and Anna's equal determination to take care of herself. I also laughed out loud at Ethan's introduction to those who shared her house.
I enjoyed the development of their relationship. The first few days, as Ethan takes care of Anna after her accident, are great fun as they constantly butt heads. Ethan is a bit old-fashioned and isn't used to a woman who is quite so independent. Anna, having spent the last eighteen years with an overprotective father and four equally smothering brothers, is determined to prove herself. As the weeks went on, Anna and Ethan learned to work together, with Ethan gaining a great deal of respect for Anna and her abilities, and Anna separating her girlhood crush from the man he is now. Underneath it all, the chemistry between them continued to build. I loved the heat generated when Anna decides to go after what she wants. The next morning is hilariously complicated by the unexpected arrival of two of Anna's brothers. I enjoyed Ethan's reaction to their treatment of Anna and the insight it gave him to the woman she is. Their feelings for each other grow, but neither is ready to admit to them. When Anna's past comes out, Ethan is there to support her. I loved how he surprised himself by his need to protect her and his realization of just how much he cared. I also liked the way that Anna didn't just go along with his plans but stood up for her own needs. The scene at the end where she went looking for him was an excellent portrayal of the dynamics between them. I loved Anna's description of their relationship to her stepmother: "We are like Oil and Vinegar most of the time. But when you shake us up real good, the combination is heavenly."
There is also a bit of suspense running through the book. Ever since Anna arrived, she has had problems with intruders on her property, as well as persistent attempts by resort developers and the local historical society to buy her property. There's a great scene with Anna going after the intruders and nearly getting Ethan too. I liked the teamwork as Anna and Ethan figured out what the intruders were looking for and why. An intense confrontation at the end brought answers and sadness.
When I first started this series, I was a bit puzzled as to why there were only two books when there were three brothers. That was answered when Paul found his own love during this book. I liked Anna's support of Jane and how she encouraged her to tell Paul the truth and his reaction. The scene when Paul and Jane arrived at Anna's house was great. I loved how Ethan so quickly relieved Jane's fears and welcomed her to the family.

Trying to reclaim her life in Maine, Anna Segee leaves the comforts of her Dad’s empire (Segee Logging) to become the forewoman at Looncove Lumber Mill scant miles from her grandfather’s sawmill ranch she’s just inherited. On Ethan Knight’s first day of work at Looncove, he steps immediately in the path of Anna’s loader which she has to ditch to save Ethans neck. When she comes at the stranger with a crowbar, he swings back and hits her square on the jaw, causing Anna to fall backwards and loose her hat. Realizing he hit a woman Ethan apologizes to Anna, but to no avail, she tells Tom its Ethan or her and fires him on the spot. Little does she realize that the owner of Looncove, Tom, has plans for retirement and sells his mill to the Knight family. And Grady Knight, fearsome leader and matchmaker, encourages Ethan to run their new acquisition. Anna learns that not only is Ethan the new owner/manager, but that Tom made a deal to lease out one of her old sporting camps to him for six months, so Ethan will have a place to stay closer to the business and Anna can use the money to help pay the back taxes on her grandfathers property. Also, lately their have been out-of-town strangers lurking on her property at night. While there is an undeniable attraction between Anna and Ethan, Anna tries her best to steer clear of her new boss/manager. After rescuing Anna from a car accident and staying in her cabin things between them begin to heat up. Secrets from the past are revealed and current mysteries come to an end. When Ethan is determined to marry Anna, she has to determine whether or not their romance is real. I love the principle characters in this story and the back and forth between these characters. This is a fun book to read, a great follow-up to The Seduction of His Wife.

The second installment for the Knight brothers takes placed immediately after The Seduction of His Wife, and second brother Ethan has begun working at the mill in preparation of taking it over as part of the family business - unknown to the current workers which include Anna Segee. Anna left Oak Grove as a child but never forgot Ethan Knight who she's loved since he saved her from being brutalized by town bullies. Time has brought many changes and Ethan doesn't recognize Anna by face or by the name she's using these days. Anna doesn't recognize Ethan at first either and fires him after an hour or so on the job. Once again I found the characters to be likable, quirky and fun just like book one while making this Ethan and Anna's own story adding even more characters. The snappy writing and fast pace of this series makes it relatively easy to overlook the shallowness of the characters in this fast paced by the numbers romance journey doubling as an excellent rainy day read.

This was the better of the 2 logger series books. It is written so it can be read out of order with NO spoilers.
Anna comes back to maine from canada after inhereting an old mill from her grandfather. She has been using her middle name & her dad's last name for the last 18 years after being wisked away to Canada after an attempted rape by 3 boys when she was only 11. Ethan had come to her rescue and saved her.
Her mother had a bad reputation for being the town ho, madeline fox, and had been married 8 times. Her only child was Abigail Anna Fox (then Segee)...
She fires Ethan the first day he comes to the mill after he was almost run over by a logging truck... THEN he punched her before he realized she was a woman.
Anna is a strong bossy woman who knows her job & the milling business. Ethan rents a cabin from her and immediately likes her because she tells him how it is right away.
I am kind of sad JC has no more books out yet. I have read them all and I enjoy her style of writing...

Sorta cute romance with plenty of drama, secrets and some mystery from beginning to end.
A female in a male dominated career knows she can't show any weakness. Then you get the egotistical man that has to be taught that this female isn't one to go down easy, emotionally or physically.

I savoured the Logger books as they were the last of Ms Chapman's books I had left to read after she past late last year. I loved all of Ms Chapman's characters and her way with story telling I can easily get lost in her different series and worlds she created around her characters.
Thank you for sharing your worlds and characters with us, it has been a pleasure to read all of your beautifully written books.

Well, I was surprised about this book. I was worried that it would be one of those drawn out wordy books. Guess what Sefer? It wasn’t. I loved this book. The two main Characters, Ethan and Anna, what an awesome match.
It’s like I visualized them while reading, as a real couple. The book, the words flowed as I read them. Definitely easy to read the story and plot, was very believable. Great writing. I could go on more about this book.
I have a few more books from this series, so I look forward to reading them and buying more of Janet Chapman’s books. Happy reading.

Oh my how I enjoy these wonderful stories by Janet Chapman and her imagination. Ethan Knight gets fired on his first day on the job at a saw mill that his family was going to buy and by a woman Forman at that. Anna Segee had worked around lumber mills and large machinery since she was thirteen and she was good at what she did but could she survive with Ethen being her boss after their first meeting? Anna and Ethen were fighting their attraction to each other because they went together like oil and vinegar. This is a great story with a different twist just like all of the author’s books.

This is very much 'same stuff, different day' from this author which is fine if you enjoy predictable romance but not so good if you are looking for something a bit different.
This was a satisfying read and provides some light entertainment although Chapman has missed several opportunities to either address real-world issues. Alternately it would have been nice if there was a bit more humour in this rather straight forward novel.
This was a satisfying read and provides some light entertainment although Chapman has missed several opportunities to either address real-world issues. Alternately it would have been nice if there was a bit more humour in this rather straight forward novel.

I love Janet Chapman's books. My regret is I cannot afford them all - financially and time-wise. I binge read them now and again and they never get old. I love the way Anna and Ethan meet again. Their interaction is what I could wish for in my personal life, and their support for each other's actions in a male-dominated industry speaks to their respect for each other.

I've been having a hard time with books lately, so I really needed something light and fluffy. Like the first one, there is no real conflict between the main characters (although this one has more than the first) and it was a quick easy read.

Another great read
I love that Chapman's books take place in Maine. I feel after each book that I have enjoyed a wonderful visit to her state. I love her characters and engaging plot. The romance is also fun.

In diesem Band geht es um den zweiten Knight Bruder - Ethan. Der ja jetzt im Sägewerk anfängt und bereits an seinem ersten Arbeitstag mit der Vorarbeiterin aneinandergerät und von ihr gefeuert wird.
Er taucht dann als ihr Boss wieder auf und mietet sich noch dazu in ihren nahegelegenen Ferienhäusern ein.
Anscheinend wird es wohl kein eigens Buch um den dritten Bruder Paul geben, da dieser Band ja bereits 2007 erschienen ist und dessen Geschichte kurz in diesem Buch abgehandelt wird. Schade, den ich hätte ihn wahrscheinlich sogar gelesen.
Eigentlich gefiel mir dieser Band viel besser als die letzten 3 Bücher, die ich von der Autorin gelesen habe. Dennoch würde ich es insgesamt als mittelmäßig - 2.5-3 Sterne bewerten.
Anna ist eine außergewöhnliche, selbstbewusste Frau, die von Ethan anfänglich für einen Mann gehalten wird, da sie auf ihn losgeht. Er schlägt sie nieder und entdeckt, dass sie eine Frau ist, die ihn umgehend feuert.
Die Ausgangslage war also ziemlich spannend.
Aber dennoch haben mich ein paar Dinge gestört,va. als er ihr sagt wie scharf er auf sie ist. Abrupt und ohne Zusammenhang, es wird auch nicht gleich wieder aufgegriffen. Da frag ich mich echt ob es nicht an der Übersetzung liegt.
Ansonsten war für mich ein wenig die Luft raus, als sie ihre "Affäre" beginnen. Aber bis zur Hälfte hat mich das Buch echt gut unterhalten. Für mich war auch seine Entdeckung ihrer alten Identität eher langweilig, dafür, dass es in der Story so aufgebaut und so oft erwähnt wurde und auch der Mystery-Part war jetzt nicht so der Hit.
Und schon wieder gibt es ein Feuer :/

Like the first book in this series, this book is a nice light read. It's not quite what you'd call a beach-book, but it's nothing terribly gripping either. Just a nice romance with a little action thrown in on the side. And like the last book, I waited to long again to write my review so I've forgotten half of what I was going to say.
A couple of criticisms...there seemed to be a few inconsistencies between this book and the first one. I can't remember what they were, but there were a few details that didn't match up. I didn't like how Chapman handled Ethan figuring out who Anna really was. It was kinda like - don't you think, Abby? And that was it. We didn't get his thought process or much of a reaction and that was disappointing. Another thing I hated was the sanitized language. You can only read so many "holy smokes!" or "goshes" before you want to smack your head. Maybe it's just me, but if you're going to write a sexually explicit scened, you should be able to curse.
I think the most disappointed aspect of the book was realizing that Chapman wasn't going to do a story for the third brother, Paul. She married him off in this one in few pages and that was that. It just seemed a bit lame after building up this thing with three bachelor brothers in the first book. I was looking forward to a third story.
Overall, I liked the book enough. It was a cute romance, nice chemistry and characters, and a solid storyline. But I wouldn't say it was utterly fabulous. It was just a solidly slightly above average read.

This was a nice companion Romance to the book: The Seduction of his Wife by Janet Chapman. Chapman does an excellent job of giving me just enough of a teaser in the first book which is about Alex Knight for me to want to read this one which follows Ethan Knight Alex's little brother. Chapman again weaves a combustable romance between Ethan Knight a loyal man who is has all the right traits including a knight in shining armor complex. Anna Segee returns to Maine after living in Canada with her French Father and step-family. She has been the foreman at the Loon Cove Mill that the Knight Family buys. Of course, Ethan is sent to Manage the Mill. Ethan and Anna interplay wonderfully. Anna is a self assertive woman who takes Ethan quite by storm. My favorite quote is "We are like Oil and Vinegar most of the time. But when you shake us up real good, the combination is heavenly." ~Anna Segee

Loved it. Not as much as Alex's but it was great but I have to say that I don't think I can find it in my heart to forgive you the slaughter to Paul story in 3 or 4 pages. Was that sorry excuse of a HE suppose to pass a side story in the story?! because I just didn't get it, they break up - because jane dear her caused a public scene that was quit embarrassing - we don't get to know what that breaking point was about than out on nowhere Our Heroin pumps into her crying because she is Pregnant and don't know what to do about, convince her to call him and the next page they said their I love yous and married. "What did just happen " and did I mention that it all happened in 3 or 4 pages.
OK That was good venting stuff. Now that I have that out of my system I can gladly say it was a good read.

As in other books by Janet Chapman, there is tension, danger, surprises, touches of humor, and the coming together of two seemingly unsuited individuals, ending with their HEA.
Anna Segee is a self-confident woman who, over the past 18 years, has nurtured her girlhood crush on Ethan Knight. When she ultimately meets handsome, adult Ethan, Anna has to reconcile her dreams of Ethan with the real thing. They have an explosive relationship. However, when Anna is confronted with her past, Ethan is there to support her in any way possible. Together they face adversity and danger before ultimately attaining their HEA.
Janet Chapman is one of my favorite authors of romance novels. Her novels and romances are usually lighthearted tales with enough suspense and twists and turns to create both intrigue and passion.

What can I say, I am in love with Janet Chapman’s novels. I Only have three of her novels to go before I have read them all. :’(
This is one of her older series. It follows the story of the second brother Ethan and Anna. Love their dynamic of being bossy and take charge personalities.
What I don’t like. I thought we got jipped out of another story. The third brother finds love and happy ending in this story as well. I was hoping he would have his own novel. Which, I believe is still possible. We don’t know much about his relationship with his amour, except that she is the have been broken up for awhile, she finds out she’s pregnant and boom they’re hitched.
Anyways another steller fun quick read of the men from Maine.

I was lied to. Bamboozled. Trapped into a bait and switch. I THOUGHT this book was about a blue-collar foreman (woman) who falls in love with the new mill owner -- WRONG!
This is a poor little rich girl trope, which I absolutely despise. We're talking a cashmere wearing, diamond earring having, Uber Rich daddy's little girl trying to "make it on her own" ugh.
As for the hero, this broke bitch doesn't own the mill, his daddy does. He's just running it. Who wants to read about a motherfucker who doesn't have his own money? Not I said the little hen.
And let's not even get started on the on the unending list of clichés that drive the story forward. Seriously, how many accidents can this heroine get into?!
Overall, a ridiculous, not grounded in any reality, mediocre romance.

Heroine had a crush on the hero years ago, when she was a little girl. Now she's the foreman at a lumberyard the hero's family is in the process of buying. And he gets fired for breaking safety rules the day he shows up to "learn the ropes." The heroine is trying to prove herself to her overprotective family. The hero wants to win the heroine. There's a bit of a mystery--somebody might be sabotaging the mill, or maybe they're after the heroine. There's some sparring between hero and heroine. It was a nice, little enjoyable read.
