Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
Maybe kids will chuckle, but Dad sure looks foolish. Is that the norm for these books?
More bothersome, however, is the amount of damage he caused, and yet he was rewarded with a badge. I hope that doesn't qualify as good scouting. So much for "leave no trace."
This one hearkens back to some of the earlier books in the series, with Papa Bear acting like an authority in something he knows nothing about. Good things the cubs are good Scouts and know what they're doing or they'd be in a lot of trouble.
I get a little tired of the 'stupid adult' trope, but overall this book is still a lot of fun to read, and one that my kids enjoyed quite a lot.
Pa was really silly, he walked on a crocodile. He made a disgusting Trailblazer stew. It's disgusted the three little bears and finally the rock he talked too loud and then the rocks were trying to hit him.He made three landmarks disgusting landmark that is. Really silly landmarks, but anyways, I will give it a one hundred out of one hundred because it was really silly
I feel like the poetry style of this one was a little weird for this point in the series. Like was this a tie-in to something else? The cubs don't learn a lesson, Papa doesn't learn a lesson. It does not follow the structure of the other books. But as someone else mentioned some earlier books were like this. The Berenstain Bears remain a mystery.
read this as an ebook. it was a poem on each page (which was weird). you know what else is weird? papa bear. and leader jane following them around in a plane (which was actually a helicopter that she was hanging out of).
I read this book to my four year old grandson. He enjoyed it, and said they had Bernstein Bear books at his house. I read this book to my three sons when they were young boys. I brought a basket of books up from the basement to read to my grandchildren. Now I get to have the pleasure of reading these books once again.
My grandchildren were over to the house again, and they asked me to read this book. We had a good time reading books together. December 29, 2015
Our grandchildren came over today, and Adellyn asked me to read this book. I love to snuggle and read to our grandchildren.
I read this book to two of my grandchildren, ages 6 and 3. They often pick this book for me to read. 20 October 2018
I wasn't expecting this one to be a rhyming one, although perhaps I should've guessed: Papa is the star, hamming it up for three cubs, in this story that is no moral, just goofiness. Why is Scout Leader Jane following them in a helicopter...? Papa is doing his wilderness-expert, "Too-Much-Vacation" schtick again, making stew in an old bird's nest. I'm confused by the ending (as usual): Scout Leader Jane commends Papa for blazing trails by making messes and creating landmarks that are sure to last, citing the smell his stew left as one such landmark. HUH? Don't the Scouts follow the motto "leave no trace" too boot? Blergh.
The Berenstain Bears has always been a favorite of mine, and thus my children too... This book is not one of the best ones but not down with the least favorite either. A good book if your child is a boy-girl scout. As brother and sister bear are scouts and they go on a hiking adventure to earn their badge. They know if Papa comes there maybe trouble and there is...but nothing that doesn't come out okay in the end...
The Bear Scouts are trying to earn a new merit badge by going on a hike but Papa Bear has his own ideas about the best way to go. He manages to get into non stop trouble as he leads the hike. This is a very funny book written in rhyming verse and I was laughing at the troubles of poor Papa Bear! Kids will love this book.
That goofy Papa Bear is quite a riot. Some wives say their husband is one of her kids. Papa Bear gets into as much trouble as children often do. The Bear Scouts might have done a much better job without Papa, but at least they all survived.
This is an amusing read children will enjoy. Hopefully they'll learn from Papa's foolishness what NOT to do.
The blundering Papa Bear from The Bike Lesson is back in this Scouts adventure into the woods, with less charm, but the surprise ending saves it a star.
As with most of the stories in The Berenstain Bears series, this is a fun book to read aloud. Papa Bear plays the fool as the young scouts follow their guidebook. We've read many of these stories and will probably read several more before our girls have grown out of these kinds of books.
in typical fashion Papa Bear leads the cubs and their friends astray and the cubs have to use they skills they’ve learned in bear scouts to get themselves out of it.
This is one of the few Berenstain Bears Books that escaped my notice (and library) for years and I thought I had just about all of them! But now I have it and I'm glad!
Doesn't work as well as the prose BB books; the rhyming here just isn't the best. I'm not sure what the point of it was--the story would have been more fun (and better written) in prose, I think.
