For undercover DNR agent Nick Seek, what begins as an investigation of ecoterrorism in the Ozarks turns deadly when she becomes a suspect and a target for murder. Her uncle dead, her aunt missing, a regretted night of passion, and Nick flees, running from the law, a murderer, and her inner fears, searching for answers.
I started writing fiction at age 58, and had my first fiction book, Leave No Trace, published at age 59. I now have five books in print, with a six coming out in June. I live in Bloomington, Indiana and on the road in a trailer half the year traveling the country, living wherever I land. I just published my first nonfiction book, The Little Road Book, about my travels, with another travel book coming out in February of 2014 and a book about my lesbian great aunt due out in April of 2014.
Nikki Seek comes to the Ozarks in Missouri to find her aunt, Jessie. Jessie went there a few days before to see her ex-husband about a piece of land they both owned. Dexter, her ex-husband, wanted to sell the land to some developers but Jessie was against it. No one was home at Dexter's so Nikki went to bed and the next morning she gets a surprise visit from the local law. Dexter is dead and Jessie is missing. And John McQuinn's best suspect is Nikki.
This book had so much potential but there were too many things that bothered me. I won't go into all of them but the main thing was Nikki's TSTL moments. But because I did not guess the villain or the why of the crime, I will grant this book the 3 stars instead of the 2 I wanted to give it.
The night Nikki Seek comes to town happens to be the same night her Uncle is murdered. Nikki's looking for her Aunt, who was supposed to have been sorting out details of some sort with the Uncle that is now dead. And the trouble doesn't stop there!
Leave No Trace is a mystery and suspense that keeps the reader guessing. Add in murder, betrayal and secrets and you've got the plot of Leave No Trace. I found the story to be fairly interesting and it held my interest. I think the characters could have been a bit more developed and believable, but overall the story was engaging.
If you like mystery and suspense in your romance, Leave No Trace is the book for you.
Since I wrote this book, along with Blind Spot, I feel a review would be better coming from a reader - see Amazon.com for the book and some reviews. I write romantic ecosuspense - suspense with an environmental backdrop.
Romantic Environmental Suspense - Nick Seek is on the run, both from the law and a murderer. Set in the Ozarks, DNR officer Nick Seek is undercover, searching for her aunt and an ecoterrorist. It turns deadly when she becomes the target for the killer.
