We return once again to Dominaria, meeting some familiar heroes and villains. The story begins following Karn as he looks back on Dominaria's past to prepare for its future. The enemy is already on Dominaria, and it's only a matter of time before conflict breaks out. This kicks off the epic Phyrexian story arc spanning four sets where the fate of Dominaria — and the Multiverse — is set to unravel
Main story by Langley Hyde, with side stories by Seanan McGuire, Brian Evenson, Dan Sheehan, Phoebe Barton and Marcus Terrell Smith. Published at the Magic the Gathering blog, in August 2022, circa 155 pages total.
Langley Hyde first fell in love with steampunk while studying abroad at Oxford University. There she spent most of her time reading about alchemy and heresy in Duke Humfrey’s Library or caressing manuscripts. Langley then lived in London, close enough to the Science Museum that she could regularly gawk at Babbage’s Difference Engine No. 2. Her favorite neighborhoods in London were Soho and Camden Town. She has also lived in New York, where she lurked in the Cloisters on the weekends, and Germany, near the old center of zeppelin manufacturing.
Her hobbies include making wire sculptures, talking to cats, and wearing tiny hats.
I loved the story of this set, but the pacing was a bit off. Good character writing, but, idk. I think there's something about sets in Dominaria that just make the difference in quality between new magic and old magic so much more apparent. When you're reading something like Innistrad, you don't really think about it, cause Innistrad's always been like this. But then you read Dominaria and look at Jodah like "he would not do that, he would not say that" the entire time. Really excited for Brother's War revisited, though.
