About the author

The Belgian author Morris (full name Maurice de Bevere) is best known for his humorous cowboy character, Lucky Luke. Morris started his career in 1945 in Le Moustique, creating various covers and illustrations. By the end of the 1940s, Morris met his colleagues Jijé, Franquin and Will. These four artists would be called "The Gang of 4", because they all worked in Jijé's studio at that time. The first episode of Lucky Luke, 'Arizona 1880', was published in L'Almanach Spirou 1947, and was later continued in Spirou. In his early 'Lucky Luke' comics, Morris was greatly inspired by animated cartoons à la Disney.
In 1949, Jijé took Morris and Franquin to the US, where Morris met Jack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman, whom he helped with their plans for Mad Magazine. He also met René Goscinny in the US. In 1955, Morris returned to Europe and collaborated with René Goscinny on 'Lucky Luke'. Goscinny wrote the scenarios of over 35 stories, which led to the great success of the series.

Always nice to see a rogue that's actually something resembling a threat. When Lucky Luke is such an imposing and unbeatable figure in a gunfight, you need smarts to handle him.

Esta es una de las misiones mas difíciles de Lucky Luke. Ademas de ser una edición plenamente elaborada en el ámbito histórico, también muestra a Lucky Luke con un poderoso adversario, la Ley, y como es utilizada para fines nefastos. No me reí mucho como en las demás historias, pero la tension me mantuvo al margen de mi asiento. Eso no es decir que no me reí en lo absoluto. Varios chistes aparecían y golpeaban duro en medio del peligro para relajar a uno.

Me encanta el enemigo principal, Blunt y como manipula el sistema para aprovecharse de los otros personajes y como se enfrenta a Lucky Luke. Para muchas personas, Luke es un personaje todopoderoso que nunca falla, y creen que no puede tener desarrollo de personaje por ello. Morris y Goscinny les cierran el pico a todos esos autores sin imaginación y muestran por qué este personaje ha permanecido por tantas décadas. Lucky Luke, así como Superman, es un símbolo, una metafora. De manera que, hay que crear diferentes metáforas y símbolos para debatir lo que el personaje representa, mientras haces la historia divertida y envolvente. No siempre, es mas, casi nunca es necesario deconstruir personajes para hacerlos encarar un gran reto o hacerlos interesantes. Lo que pasa es que hoy en día, todo el mundo quiere todo explicado en ficción.

A kaliforniai aranyláz mintájára most titusville-i olajláz! Valahol a keleti parton olajat találnak és ez beindítja az emberek fantáziáját, és persze hamarosan megjelennek a nyerészkedők is, akik gyorsan, másokat kisemmizve akarnak nagy vagyont szerezni. De természetesen jön hősünk, aki megoldja a problémákat. Kicsit semmilyen történet ez, átlagosnál kevesebb poénnal és nem túl emlékezetes szereplőkkel. Töltelék album, egyszerolvasós ez is.

i really love Lucky Luke comic magazine, it's been a long time since i read it, if i'm not wrong this series is telling about the task for Lucky Luke with his horse Jolly Jumper from the mayor of Titusville to help maintain the founded of oil (black gold) that become the source of the fighting to own it.

A good part of the book is based on oil. It goes into how people at first didn't consider oil usable; it was a nuisance to them. Edwin Drake came along and new oil could become very profitable so he builds a derrick to get oil from the ground.

It wouldn't be a Lucky Luke story without various evildoers taking advantage of things and trying to get rich quick, of course. The town where the oil was discovered so has a hoard of people arriving (just like in the gold rush.)

Air pollution rises and a bunch of thugs show up. There's fires, betrayal, a crooked lawyer and a bunch of other things which do add humor but also do portray how some people will take advantage of the good fortune of others.

As usual, good artwork (except for a stereotypical Mexican) and a good bit of humor.

Als in Titustown Erdöl entdeckt wird, beginnt ein regelrechter Run auf das Gebiet. Da es dort keinen Sheriff gibt, übernimmt Lucky Luke die Aufgabe und muss gegen Gangster vorgehen, die durch windige Tricks und Einschüchterung sämtliche Quellen in ihren Besitz bringen - oder sie kurzerhand in Flammen aufgehen lassen. // Ein immer wieder interessantes Western-Szenario, diese Erdölsache. Als Hintergrund für einen "Lucky Luke"-Band taugt sie allerdings nur begrenzt und die Gags gelingen auch nur mittelmäßig, was auch für die Zeichnungen generell gilt. Nun ja, kann ja nicht jedes Album ein Hit sein.

واقعاً دلنشین. اینکه وقایع واقعی در قصه هست را خیلی دوست دارم و تخیلی که نویسنده از خودش نشان داده و قصۀ خودش را می‌سازد. اینجا با کشف نفت در امریکا مواجه هستیم. به ناگاه خبر کشف نفت در شهری می‌پیچد و مردم دیوانه‌وار در این شهر چنبره می‌زنند. از لوک خواهش می‌کنند که برای برقراری نظم به شهر بیاید. راه‌حل‌های لوک و مهم‌تر گرفتاری‌هایی که برایش پیش می‌آید واقعاً داستان را خواندنی می‌کند. چون واقعاً یک قهرمان بی‌عیب و نقش نیست. یعنی واقعاً نمی‌داند در لحظاتی چه کند و حتی دستش خالی است و دیگران علیه‌اش هستند. و وقتی گره حل می‌شود و مثل همیشه رو به غروب آفتاب می‌رود کیف می‌کنی که همراه او بودی.

Intrigue dépaysante. Si le cas du pétrole avait déjà été évoqué dans "La ruée sur l'Oklahoma, ici, il est au centre de l'histoire qui, sur le modèle d'une ruée vers l'or se focalise sur les problèmes posés par l'éclosion de villes champignons et les manoeuvres spéculatives qui entourent la découverte de nouvelles richesses.

Heureusement, c'est à Lucky Luke que le maintien de l'ordre est confié. Il aura du reste fort à faire pour contrer son opposant, un juriste véreux (pléonasme ?) qui utilise la loi à son seul profit.
