This book series continues to rip my heart out. I ship Jeremy and Jayd, they're my otp, but she keeps meeting these guys so that continuously messes that up.

Keenan is nice, but I don't want him interfering with their relationship. Cameron can step off too.

I just want to know who that mystery number is.

But I loved all the drama in this novel and getting to know more about the powers Jayd is capable of.

(Meltdown)
Rah and Jayd make it to Nigel’s. They talk briefly about Sandy. Jayd not going into the details of what just happened. They’re about to go when Jayd starts to feel light-headed. When Jayd looks up Mrs. Esop has transformed to MaMan. But just as quickly she reverts back. After gulmping down two glasses of water, Jayd reads Mrs. Esop’s mind and answers her that no, she’s not pregnant. This freaks out Mrs. Esop but Jayd covers by saying it was written on her face. Jayd turns down the offer from Nigel to drive her home and tells Mrs. Esop she’ll see her at the next debutant meeting.

Jayd’s mom is at home this night. Lynn starts to lecture Jayd about telling her grandmother about getting her powers. (Maybe strip them). Jayd says that once she masters the powers she’ll have no choice but to let her keep the power. Lynn tells her she’s playing with fire and that she’s disappointed that she didn’t tell *her*, So, Jayd decides to pick her mom’s brain on her old power. Lynn admits she regrets not having her powers and she’ll help her keep the powers as long as she lets her know when she needs help and that she’ll tell her grandmother. Lynn tells her that the first thing she should know is that everything has side effects. She says she almost killed her father when she found out about his affair. Secondly, cold things can be slippery. When u try to cool someone’s mind it can be good and bad and you have to get out before their negativity gives you a mind meltdown. Also, be careful who you try to help. The next morning when Jayd tries to take a shower there’s something invisible in Jayd’s hair. Her mom instructs her to rinse her eyes and her sight clears. Eventually, the invisible hands lose their grip but Jayd falls on her behind. Her mom says she’s holding on to her client's negativity and Mama is the only one who can tell her what to do, At school somehow now Chance is in the play as well as Nigel. Of course, Mickey and Nellie are trippin over this. Nellie tries to front Chase about not taking her shopping but he blows her off (tired of being her b***), Jayd finds out that Allia has it for Chance BAD and they have a history. (He was her first kiss). Jayd talks to Nigel later and he says it Chance comes to him he’ll straighten him out.

After performing a ritual to Legba, Emilio, and Hector show up again to petition Mama to be the head of their spiritual house, but again she sends them on their way. Netta sees them head for Esmerelda’s. Jayd accidentally looks into Esmeralda’s eyes, but this time Jayd sends a stare back and gets inside her mind finding herself in a liquid web. Esmerelda turns on her powers full throttle and Jayd can’t handle it. But Maman steps in and finishes the battle. Afterward, Jayd gets a headache that rivals Esmerda’s and turns hot and (again) thirsty. Mama helps cool Jayd’s head down. Jayd decides its not the time to tell Mama about her new powers. She and Netta are planning on going on a trip.

Jayd has a dream where she’s on stage getting married. At the end of the stage is a gap and then there’s the ocean. Her mother tells her to have faith that she’ll make it and she will. Jayd jumps. She awakens in a sweat. She has the taste of sea water on her lips which means Netta didn’t catch her. She wakes up next to Jeremy. Chase continues to act out of character. He shows up in class with rosary beads and calls his parents by their first names. He no longer considers them his parents and doesn’t seem to care that they aren’t dealing well with his new identity crisis. Mrs. Sinclair makes Jayd take off her bracelets because they make too much noise, but after practice, she realizes she can’t see. Luckily when the bracelets are returned her vision clears. Jayd realizes she can’t do that again. The bracelets are her protection and can’t be removed as Mama said. Her mother gets on her again by not telling her Grandmother. Nigel invites Jayd to a bday party for Rah later. Sandy shows up at the party high off ecstasy. Jayd makes her exit. There’s a new girl on the cheer squad named Ellen whose got crazy skills. Jayd thinks she’s WAY too perky. Then she pisses Jayd off further by expecting them all to do the moves she does. Then trying to force Jayd to do the moves by “guiding” her body to flip. Jayd offers to give her a beat

down and sees in her mind that she’s intimidated by her and working with a black girl. Jayd can tell the other girls are now talking with Misty and Nellie said are true about her. Rita and Cecilia (Netta’s sisters) come to take over the shop while Netta and Mama are gone. Mama seems to be salty toward the Bell sisters for some reason. Mama leaves shortly after they arrive. Jeremy calls after to say Tania had the baby. He seems to be upset because he had to find out from his brothers. Tania had a boy. Jeremy (who previously didn’t care) now says he’s upset because he didn’t even get to see his son born. Also, his parents decided the trip to Europe is back on. His ex-girl Cameron will be at the resort. Jeremy tho tells Jayd he loves her and she has to learn to trust him. The conversation ends on a good note. At home, for a brief second Jayd taps into Esmeralda’s powers and can hear Mama’s dog Lexi (a result of being in her head earlier).

A force field forms over the city (not letting anyone in or out). Thankfully Yosuke (who has found Tobias, Wanda, and Pris) says he has tunnels in the Swigs that can go underneath. The last day of school, Emilio again tries to threaten Jayd by reminding her she owed him a favor. He says if he’d voted for himself instead of her he’d be president. Jayd gets a little emotional as all her friends couple up and have lunch for the ;ast to,e om a wjo;e/ Jeremy’s flight is in the morning. Her grandmother is already gone. Some girl comes by the table (Cameron) trying to push up on Jerem. Tania also shows up. Chase invites them all to come to his house after school.

The kids all decide Gordy’s house is the safest. While there Adilene tells them about Doll and gives Gordy Mezzarix’s letter and wand. The letter speaks of the Scourages attacks and the war. But after it’s all over Mezzarix says he and Gordy will be together. They all realize that he’s trying to find someone and that someone has been in Gordy’s house.. the last Council member Iris Glass (whose been tracked to that area). Sasha realizes that if they used Iris’s DNA to track her, they can use the DAN on Mezzarix’s letter to track him. It doesn’t work. Iris says it's because they need Mezzarix’s blood. Godry realizes they have some and he’s able to blind batch and use his new skill of substation to make the potion. At Chance’s, Mrs. Carmicheal has a breakdown and Jayd goes in to cool her mind down. She sees that she went to her grandmother for help, but she lost them and then her husband forbade her to see Mama again and she ended up having a hysterectomy. Jayd gets a head freeze. Her mother guides her through finding out what she wants. She wants her son back. Jeremy and Jayd spend their last night seeing a movie. Jeremy is insecure that she’s still wearing Rah’s necklace, but her mom tells her his insecurity isn’t her issue.

Jayd meets a cutie named Keenan at a coffee shop and they exchange thoughts on a book. Jayd hopes to cross paths with him again. Mickey is ridiculous. There’s a graduation at Rah’s school and she dresses way to sexy, doesn’t want to take the tincture Jayd’s grandmother made her to give her baby more nutrients and her more milk, and accuses Jayd AGAIN of trying to get with Nigel. Jeremy calls to say he made it, but Jayd hears Cameron in the background. (She’just in the lobby tho). Chance shows up and says he’ll be going to leave tomorrow to spend Father’s Day with his grandfather. Jayd makes a plea with him on his mother’s behalf. But he says he’s just trying to get to know his other family. Nellie shows up and she trips because Chance doesn’t want to talk to her (but he seems to talk to Jayd). Keenan is at the graduation and is introduced as one of UCLA’s first-round draft picks. After a short while, Mickey and Nellie are ready to bounce and Jayd has to take them. Jayd is pissed. She wants to be where Keenen is. In the car, Mickey gets a text from someone who isn’t Nigel. Mickey gets on Jayde’s behind about hoping on the chance to fool around with Keenan. Jayd wants to go back to the party but just decides to go home.

The first day of school on Jayd’s senior year she finds out that if she can switch whatever potion Misty’s taking with one of her own she can control her powers. They all notice Misty’s new look (jet black hair crystal blue eyes tight black dress). There’s an issue at school with Jayd’s address that was possibly set up by Mrs. Benett. Also in this book, she’s no longer on the cheerleading squad because of her initiation which caused her to miss two practices.

One day while Jayd is over Rah’s for a session, Mrs. Esop shows up and slaps Jayd with a bill for the designer gown she bought her (it’s eleven thousand dollars). Mrs. Esop goes a step too far and also calls Mama crazy so Jayd places (I think) a curse (hex) on her. Jayd makes a decision to go to the administration and fight her dismissal from the squad. Even though she doesn’t even want to be on the squad. (Jayd’s absence wasn’t approved but Ellen’s was and she was gone for weeks to visit family in Texas). Jayd finds out from Mrs. Toni when meeting with her that Misty was the one who told the lady over the squad that Jayd “felt the need for a vacation” so she was immediately dismissed. Plus it was her way of getting on the squad (and her mother working in the office didn’t hurt). She suggests that Jayd get her story together if she wants to protest the decision but it’s probably best she concentrate on her schoolwork and she’ll write her a glowing letter. Her Mama will have to come to the school and her mother will also have to come to show proof of her original address. Mtd. Charmicheal throws her husbands ish all over the yard and finally ready to divorce him after she finds out he knocked up another woman. Jayd plans to help her with all the dirnking and smoking she’s been doing. Allia is happy because she got the man. Jayd is impressed she didn’t have to be mean to do it. Mama issues an ultimatum to Netta. It’s either her and Jayd or her sisters. Netta chooses her and Jayd.

At Nellie and Mickey’s birthday celebration, it comes out during a game of Truth or Date that Nigel found out about the letters Mickey and her ex are passing and that he’ll be out in dsays. On the way to Dr. Whitmore Esmerelda stages an attack through possed togs, but with the strength of her new power Jayd is able to save herself, Rahema, and Nickey. Esmerelda has a new man Russel and Jayd finds o ut that Esmeralda’s new man Russell is a vampire that thirsts of the blood of Willima’s women. Mickey gets some a package of baby stuff from “her man”. She wants Jayd to cover, but Nigel finds out and goes OFF. He tells Nickey his mama was right about her and that he needs some space. Jayd tells Jeremy she needs some space. He was so drunk he couldn’t even give her an explanation and she’s not feeling that. Nigel says he’s going to stay with Chance temporarily.

Jayd finds out she won some money from the deunte girls for ten thousand dollars to give away to a needy girl. Only Mrs. Esop didn’t tell her. Jayd lets Keenan come home with her tio braid his hair and they end up kissing. Jayd’s mama walks in and doesn’t approve. She thinks Keenan is way over Jayd’s head. Jayd agrees to chill out. But Jayd can’t stop thinking about their kiss. Mrs. Esop pays Netta’s shop a visit and tells Mama she’s suing her Jayd has a dream that her grandmother is pregnant and needs to get to the hospital, but she and Netta are pursued by Russell who transcorms into many different obstacles before they run him over (as a dog) in the middle of the street. Russo tries to intimidate Jayd She finds out that she’s turned Misty and Emilio into “her soldiers”. Again Jayd using her stare on Esmerelda with the help of her great-grandmother. Esmerelda sics her man’s dogs on Jayd but she’s able to get away. There’s a lady that always hangs around (Pam) that dies. Because she’s a crackhead and black the cops do nothing.

My Thoughts
The first discussion question is do you believe in vampires? What fascinates you about these mythical creatures if anything? Not so much so like in the “Twilight” kind but I do people that there are people in this world that will drain you and suck the life out of you. So in a sense, I guess people can have vampire-like qualities. As for what fascinates me it's they’re seductive powers that can pull you in and hold you captive to whatever they desire.

Should Jayd give Jeremy another chance? Would you under the circumstances were the same? I do think Jayd should give Jeremy another chance. It was made clear to her that this was all a strick of Jeremy’s mother and ex. She said she wasn’t going to make it easy to get him but that’s exactly what she did by pulling the “space” card. Do you think Jeremy needs help with the drugs and drinking? Is Jayd overreacting. I mean personally, I’m not crazy that he smokes weed but it hasn’t seemed to affect the way he treats Jayd. Jayd DOES overreact A WHOLE LOT! She already knew what he did and it didn’t stop her from having a relationship with him. But now it’s a problem? I think she just needed a convient excuse to free herself up so she could talk to Keenan without the pressure of knowing she’d already with somebody. One bad thing I’m learning about Jayd is she likes to bounce from man to man. So, really she can’t say anything about Mickey and she REALLY can’t call Mickey selfish for accepting another man’s gifts. Did she forget she does this all the time with Rah and she’s suppose to be seeing Jeremy?

Do you know someone that’s been under the influence so strongly that you lose place and time? Actually its ironic. I don’t personally but my best friend told me he was hanging out with a group of guyd and the guy got into his feelings about some personal matters. Then he passed out. When he woke up he had no memories of even telling him any of it. But weirdly I asked if he’d been dirnking or smoking and he said NO.

Does it surprise you that Misty now had vampire-like tenencies and that Esmeralda and trying to get Mama’s blood through Jayd? How do you see this story line playing out? YES! This twist was so out of left field. This story was relatively *real*. Now it’s turned into something else and I’m not so sure it’s a good fit. I’m honestly not sure where it’s going with this plot but what I think will happen is what always happens. There will be a “Care Bear Stare” down and because Jayd’s now a priestess she’ll probably break the hold on Misty and Emili. Possibly even Russell. She’ll probably have to kill Esmerelda eventually tho. Either that or find a way to strip her powers.

Should Jayd stay in a committed relationship or explore her options? I think Jayd should stay where she’s at. Because she really doesn’t know anything about this guy. Why would you walk away from someone who treated you well and has PROVED it to be with someone that you don’t know what your getting into? You don’t know *what* this guy does at that college. Just because he’s fine and he reads books PLEASE!

Taking on all the mess with drama from her crew Jayd was bound to have a meltdown soon. Dealing with Mickey jealously even though everything she did was for Mickey and the baby is so nerve wrecking. It was not Jayd's fault and Mickey should know that. Jayd trying to keep money in her pocket by braiding hair. A new love OMG!! Can we just have a guy that's perfect for Jayd and not have any drama or baggage to follow. This may be the one. What happens at the Debutant Ball and what does Nigel mom say to Jayd afterwards it's just drama all over.

This is one of the best high school drama series. It is also appropriate for tweens to read due to its lack of profanity.
