Les Aventures de Lucky Luke d'après Morris #2
La corde au cou
Condamnés à 387 ans de prison, les frères Dalton font les frais d’une nouvelle directive visant à réduire la surpopulation carcérale du pays : ils seront pendus. Ainsi en a décidé le nouveau Président. Mais leur voisin de cellule, le très corrompu juge Biglard, leur signale un article de loi du 6 juin 1858 grâce auquel les Dalton pourraient échapper à la potence… s’ils se marient!
Charge à Ma Dalton de trouver quatre femmes prêtes à convoler avec ses fils. Une gageure! Le jour de l’exécution arrive donc. Contre toute attente, les squaws de la tribu des “Têtes Plates” finissent in extremis par jeter leur dévolu sur les infréquentables frères.
Après le formidable succès de La Belle Province, première reprise des Aventures de Lucky Luke depuis la disparition de son créateur Morris, Achdé et Gerra récidivent avec un nouvel album nettement plus “western”. Si les Dalton apparaissent pour le moins à contre-emploi dans ce scénario très original concocté par Laurent Gerra et Achdé (les Dalton mariés, il faut le voir pour le croire!), La Corde au cou renoue avec la grande tradition des Lucky Luke.
Assurément, Laurent Gerra connaît ses classiques!
Au crayon, Achdé n’est pas en reste, qui renoue avec le Lucky Luke de la grande époque et fait preuve d’un brio époustouflant pour restituer parfaitement l’esprit de la série. Assuré, enlevé, rapide, son dessin témoigne d’une virtuosité que ne renierait sûrement pas Morris.

The post-Morrisists are incredibly well selected! (These comments also relate to the one or two others that I've read previously.)
Narrative:
The stories -this especially- are so well crafted with the complexity and depth of Goscinny at his best. It's like they've devoted considerably more thought and chronological time than was alotted per-tome in the Morris era because there is better engineering of the plot and there's even more intelligence in it's delivery.
Art:
It pains me to say that the work of the newbie looks better than it did with it's fathers' stroke. The previous loose-brushy thickness is replaced by thinner more precise lines that keep detail-focused all->the->way->through instead of the Morrisexpressiveness that did not fit my perception nearly as well of what a cowboy aesthetic should be.

(PT) O sistema prisional americano tem um problema: as suas cadeias estão lotadas. E qual é a solução? Comutar algumas das suas longas penas... à forca. E os Dalton, incorrigíveis bandidos, são os "felizes contemplados"! Contudo, no momento em que eles estão prestes a partirem para o outro mundo, para sempre, uma velha lei do Oeste vem em seu encalce. É que podem safar-se da forca... se casarem. E lá arranjam noivas à última da hora, ou seja, serão soltos!
"O Nó ou a Forca" é mais um dos Lucky Luke pós-Morris, este tratando sobre o Velho Oeste e a procura de mulheres, que era escassa, muito escassa, em meados do século XIX. Como havia poucas europeias, muitas das vezes recorriam-se às índias, fazendo-se casamentos mistos dentro das tribos. A aventura é divertida, e é uma excelente oportunidade para se distrair numa tarde de verão, mas ainda é cedo para se saber se será dos inesquecíveis de Lucky Luke.
"O Nó ou a Forca" é mais um dos Lucky Luke pós-Morris, este tratando sobre o Velho Oeste e a procura de mulheres, que era escassa, muito escassa, em meados do século XIX. After writing a short Review for "The Promised Land", and "Rantanplans Ark", a good Story, avoiding offensive Stereotypes, and a lacking Story, but well meaning, this does not manage to messure up to them.
So fine, the Daltons are in danger of Execution, what a great Setup. Was looking forward to it.
Serves only as Setup to get them married.
Lucke was willing to break the Law and go against Enforcers of the Law, if it wasnt justice, it just feels wrong for Luke to support them offscreen, and then gave up, after he failed.
And obviously there where a lot of Husband on a Leach, and horrible House Dragon Jokes.
Some rater offensive depictions of Native Womans as usually unattractive.
Well Averell has apparently a Sexlive, has reproduced himselfe, so ...nice to know?

Afin d'éviter la potence, les Dalton doivent se marier. Ma Dalton trouve quatre indiennes filles du chef Têtes-Plates pour les épouser.
Il s'agit du premier Lucky Luke que je lis qui n'est pas de Morris. Concernant l'histoire, elle est correcte sans plus. J'ai souvenir des Lucky Luke de la grande époque avec des scénarios beaucoup plus élaborés. Cela reste ici très simpliste et sert plus de fond à une succession de vannes sur le mariage. J'ai parfois rigolé comme l'attaque de la banque mais ce n'était pas non l'album le plus drôle...
Côté dessin, on alterne entre le très correct et le pas terrible. Le régiment de cavalerie par exemple est raté. On y trouve également des caricatures comme dans les anciens mais c'est paradoxalement les personnages que j'ai trouvé les plus moches avec des traits forcés.
Un album correct sans plus qui ne restera pas mémorable comme tant d'autres.

Další pomorrisovské album ukazuje, že série je asi v dobrých rukou. Daltonové mají být pověšeni, ale mohou se z toho vyvléknout, když se ožení. Za mě povedené pokračování.

Cinebook bring us another modern Lucky Luke tale, expertly crafted in the style of Morris. This time the Dalton brothers have learnt that their prison sentence is being transferred into one of the noose - they’re to be hung. Even Lucky Luke is shocked that it has come to this and so sets off to see what he can do, but it’s the boys’ mum, Ma Dalton, that hatches the inevitable cunning plan to save them from the rope - they need to be married.
By marrying they’re seen to have the responsibilities of a husband and all the entails in a new frontier, but the difficult part is finding anyone foolish enough to get hitched to Joe, William, Jack and Averell. She eventually finds brides on an Indian Reservation, where the marriages could becomee beneficial to all parties even though this latter tying of the knot is only slightly better than the type they were running away from.
Luke takes a back seat for much the book, something that’s easy to do with characters as strong as the Daltons, and it’s only the final act that Luke is required to step in and resolve the mess the brothers have created.
The books by the new creators have to tread a fine line between respecting and celebrating what’s come before without straying too far from the familiar when they offer something new. Their achievements are rather spectacular, retaining the humour and adventure to accomplish a book worthy of its place on the Lucky Luke bookshelf. Lots of characters from past books crop up, which in itself raises a smile, but it’s the gags that really make the book, such as the male warriors from the Flat Heads tribe robbing a bank following direction from the Daltons, and good ol’ Averell once again finding a path that sets him at odds with his brothers.
A sterling accomplishment, and one I’d like to think Morris would soundly approve of.

Not impressed but not disappointed either.
The Daltons face death by hanging in this album. Because of prisons overcrowding the government decides to change their penalty from life sentence to hanging. Even Lucky Luke is unable to save them. But an old law that states that if they get married they will be spared does the trick.
But who would want to marry the Daltons? Their mother deals with the task and finally succeeds, saving them at last! The daughters of a famous Indian chief agree to marry them. But they are so ugly, authoritative and stubborn that the Daltons, apart from Averell who is in love with his beautiful wife, wonder if maybe hanging was the merciful option.
There is a nice reference to the Asterix adventures along with a false ending somewhere around the middle of the album. Moreover, the actors John Wayne and Kirk Douglas are commemorated here with a small appearance, driving a wagon that transfers money to army soldiers.

Normalement, les séries bd qui se poursuivent après la mort du dessinateur et/ou du scénariste sont assez ordinaires. Toutefois, celle-ci m’a plu, les personnages principaux étant les Dalton et non Lucky Luke. Nous prenons en pitié «les pires bandits du pays» devant le sort qu’il leur est réservé. Les nombreux clins d’oeil (Astérix, Kirk Douglas, John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, Joe Dassin) et Calamity Jane comme caméo sont discrets, mais ajoute une touche supplémentaire d’humour.
