I bought Dr. Suess when my kids were young and hated reading them. They seemed too silly to me in my twenties. What a pompous ass I was at twenty! I read GEWH to my grandson and discovered the whimsy and fun of the lyrical words. I was a concrete kind of reader. I wanted my characters to be more recognizable. There is nothing in the world like a Dr. Suess book. Imagination takes flight with absurd situations to try something new. I should have "tried it" when I was younger. Given this new type of story a chance. I might have "liked it, Sam-I-Am." GEAH taught this old grandmother that without testing and reaching, you are missing out on some of the most delicious things in life.
Text-to-Self Connection: My mother used to read me this story when I was a little girl. Now that I am a mother, I have enjoyed reading it to my children as well. My first grader just read this book on his own. This is the longest story he has been able to read on his own and that was quite the accomplishment. This is a great story that reminds us to not judge things without trying them. I remind my sons each day to try new things before they make a decision on whether they like something or not. I tell them that if they try new things, they may discover something they wouldn't have otherwise. I use this book as a base to get my point across. Every time I make a new dinner that my children are unsure of I say, "Remember when the guy didn't want to try green eggs and ham because he thought it would be gross and then he loved it? Let's try something new before we make our decision."

This is one of the first books I learned to read from as a child. It was also one of the first books my children to read from. Such a great book by Dr. Suess we all loved!
A riveting adventure from the brilliant minds of Kapilow Robert and Dr. Seuss. This intelligently written tale brings a advanced outlook to the way you decipher yourself as a being. This silly fable describes a cantankerous man who gets peeved by a adolescent young boy who just wanted him to try green eggs and ham. For thrill seekers and chill seekers alike, I highly recommend this book to human beings of all ages.
This book was in fact written by Dr. Seuss, regardless of what this site says. He wrote in on a bet that he couldn't write a book using only 50 different words. Dr. Seuss won, of course, although many suspect that his friend never paid.
Very cute book!!! You just have to love Dr. Seuss!!!!!!!!!!!!
Green Eggs and Ham is a rhyming book by Dr. Seuss that I feel teaches kids to finally give in and try something new. Dr. Seuss is asked by Sam I Am many, many times if he will try these Green Eggs and Ham in all of these different places and finally he gives in and tries them. And he actually likes them! Students find this rhyming book really fun in my experience.
This book is one of my favorites to read aloud to children. It reminds me of being in elementary school and getting to make green eggs and ham to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday. I think it is also a good way to warm children up to the idea of trying new things.
I absolutely love this book! My mother read me 'Green Eggs and Ham' years ago, when I was still a baby. Even though I am 11 years old, I still listen sometimes at my mother reading this book to my younger sister. I think I almost know Green Eggs and Ham by heart.😂🌈
The narrator starts asking him if he likes green eggs and ham. The narrator tells Sam-I-Am that he does not like green eggs and ham. Sam-I-Am continues to repeatedly ask the narrator if he likes green eggs and ham, but asks him if he likes green eggs and ham in different scenarios. After Sam-I-Am consistently asking the narrator if he likes green eggs and ham, the narrator agrees to try the green eggs and ham if Sam-I-Am leaves him alone after. The narrator ends up trying the green eggs and ham and actually likes it and goes on to say that he would eat the green eggs and ham in all of the scenarios that Sam-I-Am gave him. I think that this is a good children's book that can be incorporated into different learning centers in an early childhood education classroom. One of the first ways that this book can be incorporated into the learning center is in the housekeeping center. In the housekeeping center, there is usually a stove and play foods. The children can pretend that they are making the green eggs and ham that is in the story. Another way that this can be incorporated is in the arts and craft center. There are many things the children can do with this book in this center. I think that they could try and draw or paint the green eggs and ham or they can be creative and try to come up with their own idea of a silly colorful food just like the green eggs and ham. Lastly, I think that the book could be incorporated in the building center. In the story Sam-I-Am asks the narrator if he would eat the green eggs and ham in a house. I think the children could try and build a house that they think that Sam-I-Am was talking about.
Book Title: Green Eggs and Ham Author/Illustrator: Dr. Seuss Reading Level: 2.0 Book Level: K-3 Book Summary: Sam wants his friend try green eggs and ham in many different locations, with no success. At the end, the friend tries them and likes them. Bookshelf Genre: Picture Book
Bookshelf Mentor Writing Traits
Voice – There is a lot of personality in the book of Sam wanting his friend to try green eggs and ham anywhere. The two characters banter back and forth about trying and not trying the green eggs in ham. All the sentences rhyme which makes the banter even more fun for the reader. The message of the book is very clear.
Sentence Fluency – The sentences all rhyme, which helps the flow of the book to read smoothly. There are many run on sentences and short sentences that show how writing rules are not always followed. There is an expressive quality to the writing that the reader can enjoy.
Other Suggestions: Classroom Use: I would use this in the classroom to show how different voices can be used and heard in the story. You can easily tell which voice is talking on each page of the book. I would also use it in teaching rhyming, this would be helpful during a phonemic awareness lesson to help students hear the different sounds at the start and ending of words. It would also be helpful in a punctuation lesson, because of all the different punctuation that is in the story, they could each be read in a way to show the difference that punctuation can make.
Summary The main character Sam-I-Am is a happy character who tries offering green eggs and ham. The other grumpy character refuses to try them, no matter the location (house, train, in a box, with a mouse). He eventually gives in a realizes he likes it.
Response In elementary school our class would read this book and then eat green eggs and ham. It was a fun day at school, while reading a new book and trying green eggs. I thought the rhyming was really catchy too.
Use I think this book would be great for picky eaters, especially when it comes to trying new things. It could be used in a fun way by trying the new foods in different places like the book did.
My brothers are obsessed with this book and make me read it to them before bed all the time just because they like watching me stumble over all the rhymes. this book is about this thing who wants to make "Sam i am" try this weird food called green eggs and ham. they go through the book trying to convince him and in the end he finally tries it and likes it. (who would of guessed *sarcasm*) i would recommend this book to children or people who like watching other people look stupid trying to read tongue twisters.

Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham is a great book to teach children how to give things a try and to not be scared of new things. Over the timeline, we see that Guy-am-I doesn't like green eggs and ham. Sam-I-Am is trying to convince him that it is okay to try other things, and we can relate to it due to our parents. They always tried and tried feeding us new things bit we were too afraid until we tried them and we now have favorites. Overall, this teaches how one can change and grow based on what new experiences we make.
This book is quite amazing. I'm not afraid to try new things anymore. I love Dr. Seuss's flow with rhyming and it gets me going. All of Dr. Seuss's books are short, but complex. It teaches people of all ages things we need to be reminded over and over again, like this book reminds me to try new things. Its also very fun book to read. Overall this book is a 10/10, I would recommend it to anyone from any age level.
This book is a classic. A older man is offered green eggs and ham by every where and any where by a little boy. He is offered green eggs and ham in a car, train, plain, rain, standing, sitting, in a box, and with a fox. Every time the boy offers the man refuses. Until he agrees to take a bide of the dish. To the man's surprise he relay does enjoy green eggs and ham. This book teaches kids to be open minded because you never know what you might like until you try it.
Green Eggs and Ham is a great story to show young students that you will never know if you like something unless you try it. Throughout the story, they are trying to get him to try green eggs and ham, and he insists that he will not like it. Eventually, he becomes annoyed that they continue to ask him and he tries the green eggs and ham. He likes them once he tries them, and he was very shocked by how good they are. This is a cute story!
This is a classic book and a book you just can't forget about. Green Eggs and Ham is about Sam-I-Am’s attempt to convince the narrator to try green eggs and ham. Although Sam-I-Am's friend continues to reject the green eggs and ham, he finally decides to try them. He finds out that he actually likes it! This sends an important message to children about trying new foods because you might end up liking them even if you think you won't.
