This is a good book for kindergarten teachers and students. there are a lot of different types of poems, some about holidays, others about the missing word, about numbers and colors. I highly recommended this book for kindergarten teachers.

I thought this was a book of rebuses, as indicated in the title, and of activities and fingerplays to do with my kindergartener. I did not find a single thing worth sharing.

Kindergarten Kids, Ridles, Rebuses, Wiggles, Giggles, and More is written by Stephanie Calmenson and illustrated by Melissa Sweet. This is a poetry book intended for primary aged children ages five – eight. However I believe preschool aged children and possibly first graders would enjoy this book also. There are 18 poems in this book, all with a different theme that will draw children's attention. Some of the poems are just for fun such as Popcorn Hop and Wiggle and Wag. Other poems are directed towards classroom rules such as Quiet Please and Oops. There are also poems geared toward learning also. I rated this book a five based on the cute, attractive rhymes for children with child like illustrations. The use of language has a rhythm to the short poems. The illustrations and colors flow with the words of the book. The content is interesting and appealing to children in preschool through first grade. The flow of the poetry is easy to follow and it is directed towards the intended audience. This type of book is great because you can read different poems of the book throughout the year. Short poems like these are great to use during transitions in the classroom.

Genre: Poetry
Grade Level: K-2

This book gives a fun way to look at a typical day in a Kindergarten classroom. It is a rhyming book, which captures the attention of young students. It also makes learning seem like a blast because of the positive dialogue and because of the animated pictures. It can be beneficial to read on a child's first day of Kindergarten to get them excited about the year. It can also be read to a Pre-K class at the end of their school year to make them excited about the next year. It is also good because it is an interactive book. There are parts when the child is forced to fill in the blanks for what is to come next in a line of poetry. This can enhance their vocabulary and rhyming skills. A follow up activity I could do would be to ask my students to draw out their favorite part of the day in school. Another activity could be for the students to write words that relate to something in school and make rhymes with that word.

I enjoyed this book. I would share it with either a first or Kindergarden class. Its very relatable for children of those ages. This book has poems and riddles about the kindergarden year. It explains losing teeth, halloween, sharing pizza, and doing puzzles. The pictures are so colorful and engaging. The pictures make everything the children do look like fun. This book is a great way to introduce poetry to younger children.

When I selected this book I thought it would be different than it ended up being. It is a great book for a teacher, inside it has numerous poems to teach your students, like a show and tell day poem and many more.

fun! Especially for kindergartners. If there is one thing I can do, it's to point out the obvious.

Such a fun and delightful book about what the whole year of kindergarten holds in store all told through poems and riddles. My favorite might be about getting out the wiggles!

A shorter companion to "Good for You" like the poem for 100 days of school and that the kids look like kindergarteners.
