Excellent book for either a Developmental Psychology or Child Psychology course. The coverage is topical, as opposed to chronological, which in my experience makes development easier to grasp for students (not having to constantly remind them of what development was like at earlier stages, etc.). The writing is excellent, the research is current, and I've found that this book has a lot of useful illustrations that enhance learning (e.g. side-by-side pictures demonstrating what the 20/600 vision of a newborn would look like compared to normal adult vision). I haven't found a book I like better yet, though the price may been a bit prohibitive for many students.
For me, this is the best book on the subject. It is head and heels above other books that make this descriptive subject even more boring than it actually is. The book is extremely well organized with numerous appropriate pictures accompanying the text. The quizzes at the end of every unit and chapter are particularly well designed, interesting & useful in determining one's grasp of the subject matter. Brilliant!
Creo que es un libro que debería leer todo el mundo que fuera a ser padre/madre/progenitor ya que aporta perspectivas muy claras sobre cómo es el desarrollo y qué lo favorece y qué no. Muy bien expresado y fácilmente comprensible.
This was for my Child Psychology course at IPFW this summer. The class was indepth and the material, profound. The draw back was that the book was dripping in liberal angles - even though it claimed to have a strictly scientific approach. Oh well, that's the world today. I still learned a lot about my growing baby - who will be 20 weeks along on Friday.
Descripció de les etapes per les quals els nens van passant al llarg del desenvolupament. Bona eina per aprendre les característiques normatives a cada edat de cara a fer avaluacions infantils.
Very much a general survey, but a good one. Would've liked easier reference to further reading and more in depth discussion of methods and particular studies.
