Gathers early Christian writings by first century theologians and preachers, and discusses Christology, ecclesiology, martyrdom, prayer, poverty, and the Church's ministry
Boniface Ramsey's name has consistently popped up within my perusal of the vast bibliography of work concerning the early Patristic Fathers, and this is his seminal, foundational work concerning how, where, and why to begin to explore the primary sources (or direct writings and work) of the early Church Fathers. It's apparently a rather dense book, but one that is easily accessible (and intended to be so) for the non-academic and even someone completely unfamiliar with the history and thoughts of the Fathers on the whole. In numerous reviews that I have read, this book's inclusion of a suggested approach to reading through the works of the early Fathers proves to be particularly beneficial to those with interest.
Ramsey provides an excellent source for any inquirers into the Church Fathers. What makes him unique lies in the fact that he balances both the Greek and Latin Fathers rather than overemphasizing one or the other.
It's not April Fools'. I really finished the book! Wonderful reading, easy and profound at the same time. Very useful reading guide to the Fathers at the end of the book.
