I got this from the library and enjoyed it, but didn't find much that matched the kind of country style that speaks to me (repurposed older pieces with character, weathered wood, mismatched elements, punches of color, a sense of history and function, farmhouse pieces, garden elements...). There are lots of color photos but I wouldn't call all of the homes featured country. A lot of them were more minimalist, urban and/or modern. For instance, some of the rooms featured were all white with almost nothing in them. I personally don't think of that as country. It was a good book to flip through for inspiration and there were a few rooms that sparked ideas, but not it's not a book I'd purchase.

I adore a warm and informal look in a home so this book worked for me. Lots of colorful photos. Wonderful information regarding mixing colors, materials and furnishings in a "country" or "simple" decorating style. I am always using a limited budget so I love how the author combined ideas using heirlooms with inexpensive finds. It does not look dated even years later which is always a good sign for any design book. Two great chapters for my inspiration was the "Bazaar Style" and the "Ethnic" chapter which featured global and eclectic style ideas. Also some very good ideas for outdoors retreats.
