AWESOME! Loved it. A must read for any who likes Mandy M. Roth's stories. Linnea is a Valkyrie and is unhappy. She is unhappy for quite a few reasons, even here in this wonderland created by Odin, Valhalla. She does not like that she has the exact same name as her mother. Her mother lies around in a bikini looking the same age as she, but was once the greatest of the Valkyries. She does not like that she is a royal princess, but whose mother never took on the mantle of queen. The senior council plans to make her queen. Who was her father, if he was good enough that her mother should have been queen? BUT, Beau, a modern warrior who died in the recent Middle Eastern conflicts. who Linnea really likes, is not good enough?
Why are her powers increasing with age, while the other Valkyries' powers decrease as they get older? What secrets are they keeping from her about the coming Apocalypse? Why are her quota of supernatural men increased?
This day she is being sent to Scotland to find a man with exceptionally strong supernatural abilities, including the ability to read minds. She accidentally gets the year and mode of dress wrong, but finds Bhreac Kerr Laochailan, just the man she was looking to find. She has another of her many visions ans sees Kerr's brother killed and Kerr badly injued by the devil vampires.another of her visions shows a small little boy with her eyes and Kerr's red hair in the middle of the stream. He calls her Mother in Gaelic, then slips under the water in a sea of blood. Kerr lets her know that the child was not really there, but he knows it is a portend of the child's death.
There are more than the usual number of surprises, but this is a story where our heroes are not jealous of one another. She is still a virgin when she meets Kerr. They hand-fast and declare their love, promising to marry.
When she finds a dying man with supernatural abilities, she gives him a choice, bring their soul and reanimated body to Valhalla to train and hopefully win the coming war, or she will repair their body and they will live out the rest of their natural life. The vampires do not play fair. No choice is given, they just turn them into vampires who kill indiscriminately.
Oh, what a convoluted and many layered story Mandy weaves with this one! Many of you wanted a longer more complex story, well, HERE IT IS!!
You'll meet good and very evil vampires, even one that switches sides to help Linnea. At the end of this episode, Kerr, Lucha, Corbin, Linnea, Valentino, Gregorias (Gregory)and Camille are all vampires. Most fight for good and hope to return one day to the light. We will need to wait IMPATIENTLY for Mandy's next episode!
LOVED THIS ONE AND ALL ITS MANY TWISTS AND TURNS!! I even loved the parts that made me cry.
The next book in this series, but it is actually a prequel in which we finally get to learn what happened to Valerie(Linnea). We also get the backstory on how the three men she loved came into her life. This story is like three mini stories wrapped into one story and it works. I can't wait for the next book to see which of the three she will choose. I really don't have a favorite because each one brings something to the table and there are things that I love and hate about each one of them. Also I want Camille to get what is coming to her and hopefully Valerie will be the one to do it.
I received a copy of this book for a honest review.
I am at a loss for words here! This story is so filled with love but yet at the same time it is so heart wrenchingly beautiful! There is so much heart break but happiness too! I actually went back to book 1 Valkyrie to refresh my memory of what happened in that one. Once I started to remember - it has been a while since I read it - then I was so eager to read this one! I had to know what brought Linnea/Valkyrie/Valerie to the point where we first met her and WOW! I cannot believe everything that she has gone through! This is such an amazing story and I think it is pure genius of Mandy to have Val’s PAST be the second book! I found myself so curious as to how she met everyone and how they came to mean so much to her as well as just knowing everything that life or fate had/has dealt her. It is hard to comprehend everything that Valerie has gone through! Whether she remembers it or not, I sure do! I would love to see where it goes from here...or there...whichever way you look at it! What happened on Valhalla since she last was there? How much time has passed there? Where does this now leave Valerie with regards to her husbands - ALL of them - now that she is starting to remember herself and her 'past lives' so to speak? Once again Mandy has blown me away with her phenomenal storytelling gift! This is a darker story that reminds me of her Daughter of Darkness series in a way, which is absolutely my all-time favorite series of Mandy's. The depth that this story has is what helps to make this series so mind-blowingly compelling! Of course, the fact that it lacks a fairy-tale "happily-ever-after" ending...of any kind..SO FAR also has me very intrigued! I say 'so far' because I know that there is at least one more book in this series to come and I HOPE that it is also about Valerie and her life AFTER she starts remembering just who she is. Only Mandy could successfully write a storyline of this magnitude and have so many different factors weighing in on it and have it be so completely addicting & engrossing to the point that I couldn't put this book down until I finished it AND then go back to book 1 and re-read that one again without putting it down too! AGAIN! Not only has Mandy written this so successfully, but it is also done so beautifully and majestically! This all just puts even more emphasis on Mandy's extraordinary gift and further proves just why she is a NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author and is ALWAYS at the top of my TBR list – time & time again.
This is the second book to Valkyrie. And WOW! what a book it is. I would say that even though it's the second book, it's more of a prequel. It brings you up to date with who Linnea (Valerie as we know her in bk1) was, how she come to loose her memory, and who these three sexy as sin men are and how they became involved in her life. Linnea is a very powerful Valkyrie, a handmade to Odin. She dosent always agree to how the rules are on Valhalla, but she does do her job. Which is to search through different times on Earth to find strong good men with supernatural abilities, and bring their souls back to Valhalla to join the fight against evil. On a certain quest she is looking for a man of the name of Kerr Laochailan, but never does she expects to fall in love with him. The two days they spend together hiding from the evil vampires, they have scorching hot sex. She becomes pregnant and the have a wedding ceremony of sorts, and on their way to get back to Valhalla, fate sticks the knife in. The vampires are waiting at the portal, they kill her babe and Kerr holds them off so she can get home. Believing Kerr is dead she mourns her loss for a year, deciding enough is enough, she goes back to collecting souls, and finding love again. On one of the nights she's out trying to recruit someone and fighting the evil at the same time, she comes across a man she loved (a lot) and lost, and within that moment she's drained of nearly all her blood, thus making her the very evil she's been fighting. A Vampire. I know I'm being evil myself, but that's all your gonna get out of me on the story, any more, and I will be giving away too many spoilers and you won't want to get the book. And believe me you WANT to get this book. But that's not all that happens, there's plenty more to Valerie's story. This book had me gripped from the first page, to the last, and I know it will you aswell. There's plenty of action, scorchingly hot males, sexual encounters that are so hot, I thought my kindle was going to combust! The leading men are strong but Valerie is stronger. It's amazing how Mandy has written her, even though she suffers betrayal and loss, she manages to pick up and carry on. This is another brilliant read from Mandy. And I can't wait for the next instalment of the series, the cliffhanger is a corker, the way Mandy has written it has you wondering where Valerie is going to land next, from the beginning of book one it could very well be hell itself!
****A gifted copy was provided by the author for an honest review***
This is Valhalla: The Valkyrie Beginnings-book 2. I would call it the prequel in the series. This is how Valerie (Linnea) lived her life as as one of Odin-s handmaidens. She always does her job as has been asked to with 100 % full force of her being BUT she isn’t happy. Valeri (Linnea ) knows some things- the Valkyries are stretched too thin and there are all the men she has loved, more like 3 men who came into her life . This book is 3 mini stories wrapped into one story and it works.
This story shows how Valerie is fighting the evil by bringing over to her side strong warriors that will fight for mankind. During the story it shows Valerie falling in love with while fighting the dreaded evil with Kerr. She had to leave him and return to Valhalla. Heartbroken while back in Valhalla, she continues fighting the evil and after some time, she ending up bringing on board another warrior into the fight for good named Gregory. As with Kerr, Valerie fell in love with Gregory too. There wasn’t much story on Gregory.
Valerie moved on and went on to recruit Lucha but considering how important Kerr is to Valerie and to this story as a whole, maybe Kerr isn’t out of the picture yet. Corbain was this character that I don’t know how to put my finger on. I think he somehow is going to play a bigger part in the story but somehow didn’t…I wonder if he will play a bigger part in story in the next book. That is something that is confusing about Corbain. I am hoping this will be cleared up in the next story.
Overall this is a good prequel. Just the mysteries that have me needing to be cleared up. I need to know who Valerie chose- which man. Reading this story, be prepared –this book is not fairy light , roses and HEA.. There is darkness and pain. BUT it is like a creamy dark chocolate –makes you want more. I cant wait for book 3. I just wish I knew more about Gregory and Lucha.
In Valhalla, the author introduces the reader to a young Val/ Linnea and her life before the events that occur in Valkyrie- Book 1. Each of the primary men in her life, most encountered at some point in the first book, make their appearance and have their relationship with Linnea fleshed out.
I loved getting a better sense of the men who played such pivotal parts in Linnea's life. To know what each man did, the circumstances they met under and the repercussions for both Linnea and the men due to their actions made this book worth reading. However, I did have to talk myself into sticking with the book when I first started reading it. I had this feeling that stuff was getting thrown out there to hurry the story along just to get to the good part of the book. Considering how important Kerr is to the book as a whole, skimping on his story and even to some extent on Gregorios' was very disappointing. Corbin was a character that confused me throughout, I had this sense that he would play a much bigger part then he did but he fizzled in the end. Perhaps the intent was for this to be Lucha's story all along? The emphasis is definitely there and his and Linnea's story is told well and without the rush present in the first part of the book. Whatever the case might be, I felt the pace was off in this book and the plot forced at times, a rarity with this author. I think my preference would have been to read these men's stories in follow-on books vs a prequel of sorts.
If you have read The Valkyrie you will want to read Valhalla because you will want to know about Val/Linnea before she had amnesia. If you are interested in this book as a standalone then you will most likely be disappointed. I view it more as an answer to The Valkyrie vs an argument for it.
This book is the second book in Mandy's The Valkyrie Series and it gives a little peak of Valerie's life before and when she met the men that are most important in her life. She was a warrior and a decent of Odin a Valkyrie .Her job was as it was for all Valkyries was to go to Earth and find great warriors would were and had supernatural powers and bring them back to Valhalla to help fight in the great war against evil that was upon the world .On her many trips though out the years there were never any problem until the one were she meets Kerr .When she is sent to retrieve him she finds he is different and she has feelings for him maybe even she loves him and he feels the same for her..However falling for him and taking him as a mate is not allowed back on Valhalla, she needs to get him back and safely but the other side gets him and brings him over to the evil side.Things do not go well on the way to the porthole and will trying to protect each other Kerr is killed and Valerie is badly hurt.Years pass and she meets two more men who will change her life forever ,events happen that bring her new love and those from her past back into to her life .Her journey is only now beginning and that's all I am going to reveal for now .You need to buy this book to find out the rest it's one good ride trust me
I loved Linnea and her many loves. Linnea is a strong woman that is a Valkyrie fighting for good. There are a lot of hot guys that Linnea loves in her long immortal life. But which one is truly her love and can she keep him. She is tasked with finding and bringing over to her side strong warriors that will fight for mankind. It opens with Linnea’s mother while Linnea is getting ready to go after another warrior. They are discussing why she can’t have Beau, a totally hot guy she’s already brought into Valhalla.
Linnea then finds herself in love while fighting evil with Kerr. Linnea must return to Valhalla without him. After some time she ends up drafting another warrior into the fight for good and falls for Gregory. After Gregory is Lucha, but maybe Kerr isn’t out of the picture yet. So many loves and a life time to chase them.
I was surprised by the ending. I wanted more. Then I realized that I had already read Valkyrie. Now that book makes so much more sense. I wish I had read them in the opposite order. I may go back and see what I can glean from the first book now. Of course I’m still going to need another book to quench my thirst for this Valkyrie. There wasn’t much interaction with Linnea’s mother, but hopefully there is another story based on her waiting to be heard.
Title: VALHALLA Series: Valkyrie #2 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Received from: Mandy M. Roth (in exchange for an honest review) Grammar/editing: A – near perfect
This is the second book in the Valkyrie series. Please do read them in order.
If you haven’t yet read book, The Valkyrie, then stop…. Don’t read any further. I’m begging you – go read it first! Trust me, you want to.
Now, for those you have read The Valkyrie, remember reading it and thinking, “Oh, how did she meet Kerr the first time? Who is Corbin to her? Gregorios? Lucha?” I know for me, I just knew those were rich stories and felt disappointment that I didn’t know the rest of it. Well, as Paul Harvey used to say, here is “the rest of the story.” But seriously, do not read this one first. Allow yourself the mystery and read it as intended. I’m glad I did; it made for such an outstanding journey.
I read this book in less than a day. I absolutely could not put it down. I would have finished it sooner, but I kept getting interrupted (these people actually want to discuss business while I’m traveling through time and around the world!) I was even trying to read it while making obligatory phone calls.
Please, Mandy Roth, please, with a cherry on top, I’m wishing for book three!
Valhalla is the prequel to the Valkyrie. Linnea is a powerful Valkyrie, searching through time for heroes with supernatural abilities, to take to Valhalla and fight against the powers of Evil.
Through the 3 major parts of the story we see her varied relationships with the men who are important to her: Kerr, Gregorios and Luchas.
Whilst fighting evil, she has been turned by a powerful Vampire. Now she walks on the dark side, she hasn't been made evil - she prays on evil people to slake her blood thirst and she has no memories of her life before. But she does recall she was loved by one man and cannot forget him, even though she does not know who he was.
She meets Kerr and is drawn to him, but he refuses to have sex with her, which seems to be tied to her bloodlust, until she remembers. Other men become important to her. Her turning caused more than a need for blood.
Kerr gives her vague predictions of her future but none she can count on. Betrayals seem to be a part of her life. How will she go on?
I loved the way that Valerie, as she now likes to be called forges on even after she is betrayed, one way or the other, by the men who love her. She is vulnerable but strong in her convictions. Can't wait to read part 3!!!!
4 1/2 stars. Great Prequel. It was a great story albeit a hard one. Very much on the darker side of things but still filled with a lot of love and romance and sex. I did not like how the proposed heroine of the story became basically a common slut. For this reason I had to take off the 1/2 star. I wanted her to have stayed with Kerr or maybe even shared her life with Kerr and Gregory but I know this wasn't possible due to the 1st book however to me it was a bit degrading. I was upset at it.
None the less...It tells a wonderful story of bone deep love and commitment as well as pure animalistic need for someone who also holds that place in your heart. Over the course of such a long life and all that happened I did love that down to her core-she was still drawn to Kerr. Her body and heart recognized him even when her mind did not and it's that kind of love, I think, most women are drawn to and hope to have.
Finishing this story I had to go back to the 1st book and re-read that. Having done so... I'd very much like for there to be a 3rd book telling more of what happened between them all. This series is DEFINITELY worth the read...but prepare yourself-for it's not all roses and butterflies.
Valhalla takes place before Book One the Valkyrie. Linnea the honorable, powerful emissary for good has been turned by a powerful Vampire. Now although she walks on the dark side, she hasn't forsaken everything. She has no memories of her life before death. She meets Kerr, but doesn't know their history. She is drawn to him, but he refuses her until she remembers. Other men become important to her. Her turning caused more than a need for blood.
We see her life, loves, decisions and hardships as she walks for over a hundred years. Kerr gives her vague predictions of her future but none she can count on. Will the next chapter of her life be started by another lover from her past, or will it end by hands of her lover in the now? Betrayals seem to be a part of her life. How will she go on?
All the answers of her past that we have foreseen are answered. You will have to determine if you are satisfied with this life. I for one was compelled by her strength softened by her vulnerability and her need for love.
I received a copy of this story in return for an honest review.
I am usually a fan of Ms. Roth's work but I can say that I didn't care for this story. For me it started out well, Linnea was a strong female character who questioned authority. She may not have pushed the envelope often but at least she knew change was necessary. But then I found myself confused by some of Ms. Roth's plot twists. Linnea's relationships with several male character were smokin' hot I just struggled with no clear hero. Ms. Roth's way with words was apparent throughout the story and her characters were strong and well developed. The interaction between characters was well thought out and articulated. I just struggled with the story she was telling. Be warned that if you want a happily ever after, you won't find it in this story, but if you want a character whose search for a forever love spans more than one book, you will probably enjoy Valhalla.
Linnea is a princess among the Valkyries but she still has to follow the rules. She is forbidden to love where she wants, but she is the best at what she does and is devoted to her duty. But when she is ordered to bring those with supernatural powers to Valhalla to help their cause, she meets a love she cannot leave, only to lose him. Fate isn't done with her yet though.
Linnea is a wonderful strong character, who overcomes most obstacles with grace and courage. I found myself getting angry at the choices taken from her and the betrayals she had to go through and was unable to put the book down. I read the first book in the series and was very interested to find out just how Linnea became Valerie Falkyr and was not disappointed in this prequel. It answered all of my questions. I hope there will be another Vampyre Production novel very soon!
Great Book! This is a great book; this is the second book in the Vampyre Productions series by Mandy Roth. Linnea is sent by the eldest Valkyreis to find some brave warriors that can help fight the vampires. I enjoyed how this book takes us back and lets us see how Linnea meets the men in her life. There are basically three small books which then wrap it together to give us a great book. There is romance, action, and darkness and pain, but it kept me reading until I was finished. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series to find out what happens next. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Ok, I wish that this book had come out first....then I may have enjoyed The Valkyrie more, then again maybe not…LOL.
I did like that we got a better sense of Valerie(linnea’s) and the men in her life, I still did not care for this story.
I’m still confused with why she had to sleep and supposedly fall in love with so many men??? Who is the hero in the book and who does she really love??
All in all, the book did have several plot twists and the love scenes were really hot! But, I don’t think I will read the next book, it just doesn’t do it for me.
So much goes on in this book, Roth covers a lot of territory and really delves into who the characters are in her Valkyrie series. We get to see who Valerie/Linnea was before book one. I found the whole book to be fascinating, they travel the world and through several different time periods, which was awesome. You also go to see who the men in Valerie's life were and how and why the came to be with her. This book was emotional, happy, sad, sexy, and heart wrenching. I enjoyed i thoroughly and look forward to more from this amazing series.
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is the second installment in the Vampyre Production series, but chronologically the events in the book take place prior to the events in book one. I did not particularly enjoy the first book and I enjoyed this book even less. I hoped this book would answer some questions about Linnea/Valerie, but it left me with even more questions. While I liked Valerie in book one, I totally disliked her in this book.i am not feeling this series.
This book is the second book in Mandy's The Valkyrie Series and it gives a little peak of Valerie's life before and when she met the men that are most important in her life. This story provides insight to how Valerie (Linnea) becomes the character she is in the future. I enjoyed the back story, but it was a little slow to start and it felt like there could have been more 'meat' on some of the characters. I am enjoying this series and will most likely pick up other books to complete the series in the future.
I loved it. I could not put it down and at the end I just wanted to cry. I hated to see it end. This book shows you what happened in Valerie/Linnea's life before the first book. Her life as a Valkyrie and meeting all the men in her life in the first book. We also meet Kerr who is a very important person to Valerie. I do not want to give any spoilers but if you have not read it you need to. It is amazing! I love how no matter where she goes or what she becomes she still retains a part of herself.
Valhalla is action packed and full of adventure. I was put off a little at first because I was looking forward to seeing Valerie move forward with all three of her men, but this book shows how she knew them and how she came to be where she is at in book 1 . There is love lost and love found, death and destruction. If you haven't read book 1 yet it is okay to read Valhalla first. I'm looking forward to book 3
You can love more than one man. This book takes place time wise before the first in the series. And yet if you read this self-contained story first, it’s like a spoiler book to the first. Well written and very appropriately the second in the series. And all I can say is WOW what a great story. Action through out of many types. And the love triangles developing are going to be difficult to overcome when the main character gets her full memories back.
In this book we go back in time to see where it kind of began. Linnea / Valerie’s fight for the good people is great and heroic but lonely. We see Valerie the defy the elders by finding love not once, not twice but three times but still having the power for good despite all that happens to her. Throughout the whole book I kept having flashbacks of reading some of these characters from the first one since it’s been a long time between books for me. I need to know what happens next.
Wow! I didn't realize this would be a prequel. This was amazing so well written Mandy is just an amazing author. Following Leanna/Val go through history was amazing. To see the struggle and fight she has gone through is just WOW! I want to know what her connection or pull is to these powerful men and how or why they are all connected. It is mind boggling I did not want this book to end EVeR!
AWESOME READ, A REAL WINNER FROM MANDY. This book was amazing I cried like a baby, I felt like I was in the lives of the characters. I can't wait for more awesome reads from this talented author. Did I mention I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!
Mandy Roth is an expert at writing darkly romantic paranormal stories and is a master at creating a slightly sinister and very sensual atmosphere to go with her story. The characters are well developed and vividly described. Enjoy this updated reissue of a fantastic story
The second book of this series goes back into time to tell how Valeria or Linnea-her given name, was one of Odin's handmaidens. This book tells more about Valeria and what she was like before she lost her memory as she did from the first book. Story was very well developed.
Valhalla is the second book in the Valkyrie series by Many M Roth, but, as it happens, it is also a prequel to the series. There are so many characters introduced that it is hard to keep them all straight and it is not up to Ms. Roth's usual standards.
Valhalla is the second book in the Valkyrie series. I really liked this one. It gives a great history for Valerie and fills in some of the blanks from the first book. I can't wait for the next book to come out!
I received a copy of Valhalla in exchange for an honest review.
