Full disclosure: I have to admit that my four-star review is a little biased, because one of the stories in this book was written by me! If I hadn't written one of the stories, I probably would have given the book three stars.

This travel anthology is a collection of short stories written by various authors. The stories have nothing in common except that they all take place in Italy. I actually like this format, though, because you get to read about various aspects of Italian life and different regions. From the coast of Cinque Terre to the island of Sicily, every area of Italy gets a few pages devoted to it. The stories talk about things that are truly Italian - family, food, history, etc. I spent four months studying abroad in Italy, and when I read the stories in this book a year after my return to the states, it was like I was right back there. If you are looking for a guide to Italy, tips on backpacking, or even traditional travel stories, this isn't the book for you. But if you are interested in reading about the comical misadventures of the young (or young at heart) who have little money and less shame, this book is a great choice.

I got this book at a used book store along with Spain from a Backpack, for a total of $4. Its probably the only $4 purchase I've made in the past year that I can actually recall.

The book contains several unrelated stories from different young people giving you insights into their experiences living and traveling in Italy. Its a quick read, and a number of the stories would inspire anyone to throw on a backpack and trek through Europe's Boot.

This book was disappointing. I was expecting tips on backpacking in Italy but it was only random stories people had, leaving out most specifics.
