The Night Eagles Soared

Rate this book
Tonight's operation was different, and the team stood behind the behemoth plane, looking into it through the open tail section. The sound of the jet-powered generators on board was deafening, and each man listened attentively as their company commander congratulated them upon being the first team selected for such a prestigious mission.

During the ensuing flight, the sergeant in charge of this elite team takes time to relate the story of how he was selected to lead the first team into Afghanistan after 9-11.  Serving as a member of the Army's Special Forces for over twenty years, Mike has done and seen things, both good and bad, that most people could never conceive. His memories take the reader on a thrilling journey into the jungles of South America and across the deserts of the Middle East, through "The Night Eagles Soared."

"The Night Eagles Soared by S. B. (Steve) Newman pulls the reader into the life of the United States military's men and women. The sacrifices, training, and dedication of these individuals are astounding. I always knew that their mission was dangerous. Reading about some of them in detail brought a face and heart into the picture. As a civilian I urge you to read this book to gain more appreciation for the price paid for our freedom and protection." Elaine Littau, author of Nan's Journey and Elk's Resolve

One of the finest novels written revealing the fictional evolution of a special forces soldier from enlistment to what he believes to be his last mission. Women will enjoy and benefit from this novel's information and revelations. A must read for everyone with someone in the military, or whose ever wondered about our military special forces. Real events fictionalized make this a cutting edge read and it is done in a format not blistered with profanity and explicit sex, but adequately recognizing what is real and important to the soldiers, including their personal lives.

Steve Newman is an author on the rise, and his impending release of his next novel, "Burnt Yellow and Red" is certainly going to be on my "to read list."

This was a good read. The author knows his stuff and his attention to details was maticulous. It starts good and ends where it began. Enjoyable reading comparable to Coyle and Clancy.

This was such a joy to read. I had the opportunity to purchase this book from the author and get a signed copy at Ft. Stewart, GA back in 2012. I started it and it took me almost 10 years to finish. I’m so incredibly happy I had purchased this, and it was the best read during a time where I was looking to rejoin the military. Phenomenal read for anyone interested in learning more about the quiet professionals.

I FINALLY finished this book. I have to say, this isn't a book I would normally read, so it took me awhile to get into. I had to force myself to read at some points. I did so enjoy the main character, that it kept me going through some of the slow parts, though.
For anyone that enjoys military fiction, I would say this is a MUST read. I've already recommended it to a few people. For me, it wasn't my personal favorite, but I can appreciate how good of a book it is for people who like this genre.
Newman really got into his prime the last 30% of the book. That is when I couldn't put it down. I will be interested to see if he can keep that momentum moving into the sequel, "Burnt Yellow & Red".
Thumbs up to Newman on a good debut novel. Hoping to see many more successes from him.

I received this book as a gift for my signed book collection.

Steve Newman has created a wonderful book about a special forces soldier and the life that he leads in the military. He describes in vivid words the environments and situations that our shadow warriors encounter while on a mission. From the jungles of South America to the desert of Afghanistan, We follow a Special forces sergeant reliving his experiences over the past twenty years of his career as a green beret.
Being based on true stories, Steve weaves his special forces career into a marvelous tale that any military buff would thoroughly enjoy. If you want to see what our Special Forces are like, I would definitaly recommend this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Night Eagles Soared. So much in fact, that I am reading it again! Newman did a masterful job of bringing the common civilian up to speed with military life. I felt like I was with him, running through the jungle in Central American and flying on that military plane contemplating his life and all that he'd been through while on the mission of his life. This book brings home what those who defend us do. After reading this book, your mind and heart will be changed. I highly recommend it!

I met the author, S.B. Newman at Goodfellows in San Angelo. I really don't read that many books from a military genre, but I could not put this book down. It was a great read and I bought copies for other friends and family.
