Recenzie a ediției Humanitas din 2017:
Traducerea realizată de Simona Cioculescu este mulțumitoare, iar tehnoredactarea Manuelei Măxineanu prezintă numărul de erori obișnuite pentru dumneaei (1 la fiecare 10 pagini).
Pot să afirm fără dubii că este o lectură ușoară, un dialog sub formă de interviu, care m-a bine-dispus în mare parte, pe parcursul a două zile deoarece cartea conține aproximativ 200 de pagini, este scurtă.
Întrebările lui Claude Bonnefoy sunt pertinente și relevă un vădit interes pentru persoana lui Eugène Ionesco. Răspunsurile nu sunt mereu cele mai potrivite, nu se ridică la nivelul chestionării, însă ne prezintă frânturi din caracterul marelui scriitor, din tenebrele subconștientului său, alături de povești auto-biografice, dar și precepte destul de utile pentru mințile în formare (adică ale tuturor 😁).
„Mă simțeam din ce în ce mai singur. Eram un anumit număr de oameni care nu voiam să acceptăm lozincile, ideologiile care ne asaltau. Era foarte greu să reziști, nu pe planul acțiunii politice, dar chiar și pe simplul plan al unei rezistențe morale și intelectuale, fie și tăcută, pentru că, atunci când ai douăzeci de ani, când ai profesori care-ți fac teorii și expuneri științifice sau pseudoștiințifice, când ai împotrivă ziare, o întreagă ambianță, doctrine, o întreagă mișcare, este într-adevăr tare greu să reziști, adică să nu te lași convins.” - pg. 22-23.
„Tot ce trăim lasă urme.” - pg. 16.
„Am impresia că progresiștii de astăzi sunt nițel fasciștii de ieri. E adevărat, progresiștii de acum sunt fiii foștilor fasciști.” - pg. 22. 😄 Nu știu cu ce definiții lucra autorul în 1977, însă sigur nu folosea termenii actuali (cei din 2025). Am adăugat 3 definiții pentru o gândire ne-intuitivă. 😊 Dacă ar fi trăit Eugen până în 2025, s-ar fi contrazis singur. Bine, el a spus clar: “Am impresia”.
A avea impresia că... = a bănui, a crede, a presupune că…
Fascism = ideologie apărută în Europa după Primul Război Mondial, caracterizându-se prin naționalism extremist, misticism, violență, cultul forței, intoleranță față de alte partide, promovarea rasismului etc.; regim politic instaurat pe baza acestui curent.
Progresism = curent politic care promovează sau favorizează reforma socială, politică, și economică.
Reformă = transformare politică, economică, socială, cu caracter limitat sau de structură pentru a realiza un progres.

Ionesco is an aphorism machine. He succinctly capsulizes thought in a very digestible manner. If you want to know some of the background to the Theater of the Absurd, or even absurdity in general- this book is a short cut. And why would we want to know about absurdity?
Have a look outside. Lockdown used to be applied to violent or riotous criminals- now we pay our jailers to lock us down.
Black Lives Matter? Oh, is that why so many more black lives are being destroyed?

Das Buch stellt eine insgesamt unterhaltsame und ausführliche Einführung in das Werk Ionescos dar. Das Gespräch ist insgesamt auch reich an Themen, von persönlichem, über Literatur, und natürlich spart Ionesco auch nicht mit Ausführungen zum eigenen Werk. Eine Empfehlung die definitiv Neugierig auf Theater und die Werke Ionescos macht.

Some good things here, but these conversations took place before Ionesco wrote most of my favorite plays. I prefer his late work. If you prefer his early plays, you'll want to get a copy of this.

This is book or maybe I should call it for what it is, an edited conversation by Claude Bonnefoy, predominate, French Literary critic in the 60s and 70s, was published the year that I was born.
I was born in the 60's, a time when "revolutions were televised", where war was seen every day on the evening news like watching "Gunsmoke". It was a time when there was a "war on poverty" in the states, while in France people were living in unprecedented prosperity, when even the Algerian conflict was quickly forgotten in a haze of gauloises, in movie theaters where smoking was permitted, showing the latest Goddard, and Resnais.
French Culture seemed to have been very structured back then, in a hierarchy where Ionesco held the literary place of both "provocateur littéraire" and "innovateur". Within a few years, he would be admitted into the French Academy.
One-hundred and seventy-six pages of intriguing banter, mixed with both expansive and profound observations, some witty ripostes but mostly genuine attempts to explain the inexplicable: how one works. The best you could do is abbreviate and ultimately misrepresent how writing for the theatre comes about--writing for anything, really.
How do you explain the process of bleeding, or pissing? I mean, any attempt to definitively explain theses processes open up ever more questions in a reader...But: a lot of good material was gleaned for my up coming project, "Rhinoceros", with which I'll direct the Sophmore College Class of New World School of the Arts in the Fall of 2011. For that I am very grateful.
This is a dated book, but a good read for the very last third of the book titled "Themes" (the other two parts are "Biography" and "Method").
It is fascinating to time-travel back to the 60's and see what were the major concerns for writers and intellectuals at that time. Authoritarian and totalitarian governments, the Cold War, Nuclear War, Vietnam and un-checked American Hegemony, the growing unrest in French Students (which would culminate in the 1968 uprisings), the stupid complacency of the French, Fourth Republic.

Politica, organizarea socială fac parte din grijile noastre și ne fac să uităm singura problemă autentică, aceea a semnificației existenței noastre. Semnificația existenței noastre este că trăim în uimire și suntem făcuți pentru moarte.
