Return to the Scene of the a Guide to Infamous Places in Chicago, by Richard Lindberg, is an uncensored neighborhood-by-neighborhood map to the back alleys and boulevards of Chicago where some of the most infamous events of the city's criminal past occurred. Capone, Dillinger, and other organized crime figures have left an indelible imprint on the Windy City.
I love Chicago history, and this definitely gives you the dark side. I have an autographed copy of the book. I remember getting into an interesting discussion about the Peterson/Schuessler murder. I have always been connected to that story. The Schuessler's are buried near my grandparents at St. Joseph's.
really liking this so far. numerous, brief retelling of crimes and disasters in chicago's history neighborhood-by-neighborhood, as opposed to chronologically, which is sorta neat. a must for crime, history, and/or chicago buffs.
I bought this book so that my family and I could find haunts from Capone's Chicago, but it ended up being a great history of the city -- from how the different parts of town developed to the way government worked (or didn't) for decades. A must read for any history buff.
