We did it. We won. After weeks of pitched battles with a coalition of pigs and club-wielding vigilantes, the golf course is ours. Construction has begun on the steam-rooms. Gardeners plant shea seedlings that will eventually provide us with homemade lube. Abortifacients and contraceptive herbs are sown next to cherry tomatoes, plums, and other post-coital snacks. Now the fun begins...
What started as a Minneapolis intervention has blossomed into an international movement. Now, it's grown into a shameless slutty book of porn, history, and more from your favorite viral campaign. Featuring 28 stories and essays engaging with our call to take over the golf courses of the world. Guaranteed to inflame your brain and body.
What's not to love?
Four stars because I’m glad this project exists, and it was fun, funny, and sexy. As with any collection of essays/short stories by a wide variety of authors, it was hit and miss. There were some really high points, both in terms of wonderful imaginings of possible worlds, and very interesting historical narratives. I like how many stories blurred the lines of realism and fantasy. Generally the whole project was allowed to exist in this way; it doesn’t take much imagination to suspend disbelief and read it as if the golf course really is a public sex forest. I left thinking that this was not a far fetched idea. So job well done I think.
I actually think there are a few stories I left unread— I learned that I don’t have much stamina when it comes to “erotica” especially when it’s sort of intellectual in tone. I find it curious so many of the stories are from a submissive perspective and so few are from a dominant one. Of the submissive perspectives many were very self aware and reflective, which I enjoyed. It made me want the same from other perspectives. I’m sure it has to do with a relatively low pool of entries but it was sort of frustrating.
Porn as theory! Theory & porn! Manifesto and history and just plain porn. Wish there were more anthologies like this one centered around a particular organizing moment/ campaign /place. Loved a lot of the erotica but was hoping for a bit more documentation of the campaign/ accounts of organizing. A fun read that is easy to pick up & put down.
It's an anthology. Some of the stories are hot. Some are weird and cool. Some didn't work for me. But as an imaginative project that's sex positive and LGBTQIA friendly, I think there's something for everyone here.
This book is excellent and I am so glad it exists. For fans of smut, queer theory, activism, poetry, and art. As thought-provoking as it is arousing and deeply entertaining. Read it if you dare.
an eccentric mix of essays and smut that can be a bit hit or miss but it contains enough high points that make it stand out in its intelligence and sexiness
So much YES. The perfect hybrid of porn + theory and I loved the variety in this collection. I was definitely more into some sections than others, but take what you like and leave what you don't and the book will still be worth the adventure.
Um, HELLO? A collection of essays, poems, and short stories about public/queer/accessible/kinky sex? Obviously this was great - not every piece will trip everyone’s trigger, but its breadth and variety was definitely a strength rather than a weakness.
What a wildly erotic, hot, hilarious and also very much intellectual anthology and speculative project. I feel lucky to be one of the few with an actual hardcopy, purchased in Minneapolis. I love everything that lead to this book and the lore surrounding it. As with any collection with many authors, essays and stories were hit or miss. But the anarchist theory, smutty fun, and DIY-ness of the whole collection really did it for me.
Sorry to all who like golf but I'll never see the game as more than a land grab for areas that COULD be public sex forests ! <3
(note: still need to finish some of the smut but, like poetry, these are companions for longer periods of time, not to be finished in one sitting imo!)
