"Long, long ago, long before anyone you know was born, there were no wheels anywhere. There were no carts, no bicycles, no roller skates, not even a wheelbarrow in the whole world. To move heavy loads, people placed them on the backs of animals. An animal like an ox, for example, could also be trained to pull a wooden sled. In this way it could carry much more. Nobody knows who first had the idea to put rollers or wheels under a sled, but it certainly made pulling easier!"
You will join Peter Pebble, an early caveman, as he travels through time in this book, witnessing the development of the wheel; used in transportation, industry, toys, farming, etc.
I am just amazed that more people are not aware of this book.
I would consider this more of a picture book for adults than a picture book for children. If you are interested in a good basic history of the history of transportation--wagons, cars, trains--this would be the book for you.
The illustrations are nice, attractive and appropriate. They are not incredibly beautiful as somewhat fits the subject.
