It’s an official manga anthology of PERSONA 5 short stories and comic strips!
A dangerous shopping date! The suffering of a back alley doctor! The Phantom Thieves' Cooking Corner! Over a dozen artists dive into the daily lives of Joker, Futaba, Ryuji, and the rest of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
This collective is more or less what these manga artists would've like to have seen or done in the game. And it shows. I dont particularly like it when artists completely change a character that is already known and loved in the community. Therefore, it derails them from their story and hinders your perspective of them. And when you project that onto others who grew with this character, it's not that fun to read. The good side to it was one or two short stories that I would've loved to have seen in the game. Mostly with certain characters that should've had more screen time together and how they would've expressed themselves. Especially Haru (bless her and her lack of screen time). Despite this, I still love Persona 5 because the world keeps me immersed in its individuality and message of justice. Honestly, just play the game.
I played Persona 5 when it first came out in... 2016?? Anyway, and between like November or December last year through February of this year I played the sort of souped up remake Persona 5 Royal -- basically the same game with a bunch more added content and things to do... I loved it a lot, and all the new stuff touched the parts of my brain that sets it on fire.
Persona 5 Comic a la Carte is an anthology comic by a bunch of different artists, mostly comedy, some nostalgic, that touch on parts of the game. It was cute! I did laugh out loud several times and had my partner read it and I enjoyed it as a little cute supplement tot his game I just spent over 90 hours exploring and having emotions about.
Idk why I bought this, I've never played a persona game, but I'm gonna look at this from the perspective of it being a standalone manga
A good story even an anthology should be good and understandable for new people and people returning to the franchise alike, this is not that, I was confused the whole time, and I know this is not completely this book's fault but still, I'm upset I wasted my time with this
Most of the comic strips were hard for me to hold interest if I am being honest. My two favorites were the ones pertaining to Futaba, and I also enjoyed the Akechi strip where they start to consider him a friend. However, I really didn't feel like I could hold my attention on the manga at all for very long and had to read it in spurts, which was dissapointing for me because I adore Persona 5.
This book was so endearing to me. Since I’ve played the game, I’ve been so entranced with it. Reading the A La Carte has been so fun, seeing what they do on their free time or jokes that you wouldn’t understand unless you play the game. It’s honestly so amazing, I didn’t think I would love it so much but I did.
Im a Persona 5 addict and at any chance I get to consume more of this ragtag bunch im taking it. This made me laugh so much which was a well needed break since I've been reading heavy stuff lately.
There's a few decent stories but the sexualization of underage characters (ESPECIALLY Caroline and Justine) made it an uncomfortable read whenever it came up.
I didn't realize this was a collection of fan-made, individual artists' work. Tbh, I didn't like a lot of them because the characterization was weird or they were gratuitously sexual. BUT the two that saved it were Forget-Me-Not by Ueno and That Day by Kyousuke Suga. Kind of unsurprising since Yusuke and Akechi are two of my favorite characters, and I feel like these artists got them right.
Ah, the Akechi one makes my heart hurt. It was really good!! "Friends...huh" 😭😭😭
As a fan of the game, the characters have my whole heart. I was worried that it wouldn't be the same as experiencing the characters in game. However, it was the opposite. The artists have perfectly captured the tongue and cheek of each character and created, mostly, great stories.
